Adult Swim to switch to subs

That's a great point, but half the time those sarcastic commericals are actual truth in what they are doing.
And I'm 100% sure that this falls into the other half. They wouldn't do this, the anime properties on Adult Swim are already the lowest rated shows of the line up, cutting the dubs would just alienate more people.

Well yeah, that's because if they switch to subs, people that watched dubs will boycott Adult Swim. I mean it doesnt matter anyway because that's the US for you. :<

Personally, I hope it's false. I hardly ever watch anime, and when I do, I watch it in english, unless it's something I absolutely HAVE to watch, and english isn't an option. The die-hard anime fans have been content to stream the episodes from their computers, and by airing subs now, they're essentially alienating the casual viewer. If ANY channel should switch to subs, it should be Anime Network, since they air nothing but anime (I think. I don't get the channel). I mean, you get the option of the original voice track on the DVDs, and you can stream subbed from your computer, so it's not like you can't watch the Japanese version if you wanted to. :/

If they're not airing dubs, then chances are, the series won't get dubbed at all, which is unfortunate for people who prefer to understand what they're hearing.

I suppose your right, well alright. I mean it does make sense for them to keep it dubbed considering not that many people who watch the dubs care that much to watch them in Japanese.

Yes.
the voice actors in some shows are terrible, such as L in deathnote, seeing as how he sounds like a politician.
I won't even get started on some shows that i don't even think are on adult swim, such as Ah!my goddess, because when i tend to use mindless drabble, i go on for a long time.
So i think it will be good for the people who aren't lazy to read, but its all depending on the person.
I hardly watch anime on adult swim because i have the best source of anime on the internet.
however there are more sub episodes on the internet than dubs so it may just repeat itself to sub, then dub, and so on and so forth.
but once i have heard the english voices in deathonte and never wanted to see a dub again.

I REALLY hope this is true, that show is NOT Code Geass they are showing on Adult Swim. That ISN'T the BLEACH I know. I'm sorry I mean like I can bare it if it's not true, but I mean I really hope this is what is gonan happen.
They're indeed showing Code Geass on Adult Swim, and the Bleach you know is different from the Bleach everyone else knows. Go be a weeaboo someplace else.

If this is true, it is the best decision they have made in YEARS and proves they might actually give a dam about anime.
Actually, it would be one of the absolute worst decisions Adult Swim would ever make. Such a move would prove nothing about how much or how little they care for anime; if they truly didn't care, then why would they bother acquiring it at all?

I'm still amazed that people actually believed them to begin with.

In any case, Adult Swim is a company like any other, and as such they care about profits; even though anime brings them little profit, they still profit from it nonetheless. Again, as I said earlier, it'd be the absolute worst decision they'd ever make if they were to start showing subtitled anime; for every weeaboo they might stand to gain, they're guaranteed to lose hundreds of regular people.

You realize I said in the end it doesn't really matter. I mean I suppose when I said "I suppose your right, well alright. I mean it does make sense for them to keep it dubbed considering not that many people who watch the dubs care that much to watch them in Japanese." It just didn't matter at all and you decided to me without reading the rest... Alright whatever, I don't wanna start a fight, because your right.

The only way I would believe something like this is if there was some way to switch the audio and turn subs on and off. Which is a possibility someday with all the technology that is always coming out.

wait, by switching to subs wouldn't they be waiting for the dvd release and then select jap audio with eng subtitles? and if you say they'll use free subs, you deserved to be slapped hard

I completely disagree. The current way they acquire and market Anime is wrong. From what I understand, the only reason Adult Swim gets Anime is for ratings, and to make money off of it. From what I understand, they actually get more ratings from old episodes of Family Guy and Futurama when they have them.

IF I thought Cartoon Network had devotion to Anime, I would need a few things.
1. Subs would be great.
2. Better times where they show Anime, and I don't mean Naurto and Pokemon.
3. More anime. Lets see more Anime, allot more.

It's simple really. If you dont like dubbed anime...DON'T WATCH IT. I mean fine too bad you guys cant get subbed anime. You arent understanding the big picture. WE LIVE IN AMERICA NOT JAPAN. If you want subs, go to Japan. Stop saying dubs suck, not everyone feels the same way.

Anime is Anime and there is nothing wrong with dubs or subs you guys just like to ***** so you tend to make such a big deal over how bad dubs are. Maybe if you hadnt spent so much time watching subs 24/7, you would be used to dubs.

I am against this because it doesnt matter whether they have them or not really, either way it wont make Adult Swim anymore popular, if they arent already half as popular as they want to be. Jack and Jorfe have very good points because no matter how much you try to make people happy there is always going to be complaints and seriously. Like I've said, if you dont like the dubs don't watch them.

If you want someone to blame, don't blame the ones that liscense it and start complaining to them and not on forums. I bet with all of you sub lovers, you could really make good debates and actually make these dubs better.

I actually think it would be a good thing. It has more authenticity to it. The only downside would be, people that can't read fast enough, or can't read well at all.
But, in my personal opinion. I think its a great idea. I tend to like Subs more than Dubs.

Like I said before, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter. I mean when you think about it, anime is indeed anime. Ayumi-chan said it, it's not like it's 4Kids doign a One Piece or Yu-gi-oh. It's not a big deal if it's in Japanese or English, it's going to be the same show (unless it's a horrid edit and even then). I mean it's really not a big deal either way.

Also dont forget, I bet there are people out there who have learning disabilities in visualized circumstances (In other words they tend to be better at hearing than they are at watching subtitles) or probably cant read well, if they can at all. It would be much easier for people to have dubs so they can hear and not worry about reading subbed version and going, "what the hell? I dont get this anime!" or something.

I mean, I, myself, am more able to understand anime by listen to the voices and not having to read the subtitles because I have a much harder time understanding what's going on.

So you see, those dub versions you loathe so much also have benefits for those that have limited understanding, visual disabilities or don't read well or read at all and whatever. It doesnt matter whether you like it or not because its not upto you to decide on what can be dub and what cant be. That's how our society works.

We don't live in Japan, we live in america and you guys need to either understand how screwed up the american broadcasting society is or suck it up and either watch it dubbed or dont.

For now, I rest my case. I don't want to dwell upon this anymore since it will just become a big fight between Dubs vs. Subs.

Wow, I didn't expect this to end up a SubxDub War D:

Adult Swim doesn't care for the Anime fans at all, they've said it before and they'll stick with it. Every Anime viewer in the states wouldn't even watch AS if we had another place to watch our Animes, but sadly we don't have many options beyond paying each month for a subscription to an anime channel.

As far as Adult Swim actually switching to subs, they didn't act like it was a joke, it appeared they were serious and just pointing it out as a piece of news.

I'm looking Forward to this. I hate dubs with a passion, no matter how close the translations are to the original.

EX: Funimation's "Case Closed" (Detective Conan is betteru) changed everyone's names to sound western. (the Manga followed suit with the main characters only). Because Of that, I stick to Subtitles (Anime) and Scanslations (manga) of Detective Conan. Actually, I do that with virtually EVERY Anime/Manga XD

For once, AS does soemthing right with their Anime XD

On another note:
Pocket Monsters Crystal: Raikou, Legend of Thunder >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 4Kid's Legend of Thunder

You should have expected it.

You should have noticed the bump writers' sarcasm, because they really, really lay it on quite thick. They do care about anime fans, they just don't want to admit it openly. I mean, the general sentiment has been there since 2005, if not much earlier. If they really didn't care, why did they allow InuYasha to finish its run? Why do they keep reairing Cowboy Bebop every so often? Why did they even bother acquiring Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, Blood+, Code Geass, and a host of other series in the first place? Also, there are anime fans who will still watch Adult Swim even if they had other sources, thus proving your fallacious generalization wrong.

As far as Adult Swim actually switching to subs, you'd think there would be confirmation from other sources, right? They'd drop reminders in future bumps to remind the viewers, right? Wrong on both counts. There are no other reliable sources that confirm that Adult Swim is switching to Japanese audio with English subtitles. Also, when that bump was done airing for the week, it was replaced with another, as per standard procedure; nothing even remotely official about a subs-only policy has been said since, in the bumps or elsewhere.

In short, Adult Swim will still be airing English adaptations. If you don't like it, either turn off your TV and resume fapping to voices you can't understand without the aid of faulty subtitles, or learn to deal with your own native tongue. Foolish Wapanese.

Sub/Dub Wars Episode V: 4Kids Strikes Back

First off, I really could care less which side people are on in this because I've watched both Samurai Pizza Cats and Kyatto Ninden Teyandee all the freaking way through. And I laughed my *** off at both versions.

Anyway, as for the topic, there's only one thing I have to say about it and it involves a certain recurring theme I found throughout this topic. If you honestly think for one minute that Adult Swim is really going to switch to subs for all of their Anime, you're alot more gullible than I thought. I guarantee you that they will not do this, at least not on cable TV. Maybe their DTV network will start airing subbed Anime as a test market, but not cable. If they said they were going to air it on Cable, they were JOKING, people. It wouldn't be the first time they pulled that.

They could care less about their fans. They are here for ratings and money. And it is simply not in their best interest to show the Anime in Japanese. Reason being, for every one of us that WANTS subs (yes, I want them too) there are at least ten others that simply don't have the patience to read all the dialogue. Want proof? Go to your local Blockbuster and ask how many people returned Pan's Labyrinth when it first came out, due to the subtitles.

I don't think it is going to happen. I been watching Adult Swim since 2004, and I know about their games. This is just a gimmick for more people to watch their block.

If I see the commercial, I know it will be a joke. There is no way they are going to pull this off. And I really don't mind watching my anime dubbed or subbed. I like both ways. Everything needs to be in dubbed form anyway. So why change now?

Maybe it might happen, but they will do it online. Not on tv.(Disregard that - It isn't going to happen)

And I didn't know it was old news...*backs away and runs* This what I get for not watching for two weeks(blame work). ^^;
