We're only nearly half way through the year, but we've already seen plenty of great albums by great artists released in 2010.
ITT: Your favourite albums released so far? What albums are you anticipating to be released later in the year?
Pendulum's third album Immersion ranks as one of my favourites so far. Although Drum & Bass is a generally simple genre, this album is one step above all the rest and is Pendulum's best, imo. "Watercolour" from this album is now my favourite song by Pendulum.
Although my favourite would have to be Janelle Monáe's debut album The ArchAndroid. Considering I never listen to soul or R&B, I'm surprised at how much I love this album; although Janelle puts a lot more lyrical depth into her music compared to most other pop artists. There's a lot of classical music included, aswell as some influence from rock music. It's a very diverse album, although still remaining an accessible mainstream pop album at heart. She definitely deserves to see success.
Other albums worth mentioning:
Burzum - Belus: I hardly ever enjoy metal but I think Burzum is just far above the rest of the black metal bands.
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach: Not their best, but definitely some great tracks on here, such as "Empire Ants" and "Stylo."
Massive Attack - Heligoland: Again, not their best. But "Flat of the Blade" and it's remix "Bulletproof Love" are amongst my favourite Massive Attack songs.
Yeasayer - Odd Blood: A very 'different' band, there's nothing else out there quite like them. "Ambling Alps" and "O.N.E." are two great songs.
Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back: I've always been a Peter Gabriel fan, and he's covering songs by other great artists such as Elbow and Arcade Fire with nothing but his voice and an orchestra on this cover album. A different take on a lot of great songs and although I actually prefer the original songs in most cases, his covers are also great in their own way.
Albums supposedly to be released later in the year that I'm looking forward to:
Skinny Puppy - In Solvent See
Radiohead - Untitled
Daft Punk - Untitled (I know they're composing the score to the movie 'Tron Legacy' so I guess that's what this is, if they're counting it as their next album)
Interpol - Untitled
Nine Inch Nails - Untitled
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Untitled
