    Alcohol

So who here drinks? Do you drink regularly, or not often, or not at all? If you don't drink, why not? If you do drink, how drunk do you tend to get?

I personally love drinking. Drinking is an important part of socialising for me, and while I know that you don't really 'need' it to have fun, it helps out a lot. I generally tend to get quite a bit more drunk than I should and, although I don't end up throwing up and passing out often, I do some pretty stupid things.

I don't drink, and I never will. There are quite a few reasons:

1 - As you touched on, I've found that people who start to drink (coming from my experience working in a liquor store) do begin to feel that they need it to have fun. I just think that is the saddest state ever for the world to be in: where people feel like they need to have their minds chemically altered to have a good time.

2 - I don't like the taste, it burns your throat like acid. And I've only ever had like a sip.

3 - I think I have an addictive personality, and I figure if I never start, I'll never miss it.

I'm too young to drink, but I'm not going to lie, I've had some tastes of different kinds, none of which I like. So I probably won't ever drink.

I drink sometimes, not as much as most people in my age group but sometimes. How drunk do i get, that varies as well, i've only passed out a few times but I can hold my booze pretty well.

I have drunk alcohol before and I've also been drunk and I'm glad that I've had the experience of alcohol.

I now know that I like alcohol in moderation (I still don't like the taste of beer though; I prefer Cider and Champagne) and getting drunk really isn't as great as its cracked up to be. I guess people learn in different ways - some people know that they never want to touch alcohol and they decide not to try it. Others want to try things out for themselves before making their decision because they want first hand experience.

I come under the latter of the two but I'm sure people who come under the first option have a good and just reasons as to why they don't like alcohol.

I still don't like the taste of beer though

    Who does? Haha
    I still drink it though.

Anyway, I do drink. I mean come on, I'm Scottish, I've got a stereotype to uphold!
I'm not out that much but when I do go out and I have money I like to have a little drink. (Sometimes a big drink) It just depends on what mood I'm in.
Sometimes I like to go out and get tipsy and sometimes when my football team (Celtic) wins I like to get Charlie Sheen'd!

Though if the day came where I'm lying in a gutter covered in my own puke then I give my friends and family the right to disown me.

Like Shining Raichu up there, I do not drink and never intend to.

I agree that it's a sad day indeed when a person thinks they need to ingest some kind of mind-altering substance to enjoy themselves, though I know not every drinker feels that way. I've never had a drink, but I know there isn't anything you could put in it to make it taste good. My tastes can't be fooled. My mom is also an alcoholic, so there's that risk involved.

All in all, I feel alcohol is just a pointless extra and I'm not 'missing out' on anything. My brain makes itself plenty loopy, thanks.

Alcohol is awesome! Social gatherings aren't the same without it. It's a great stress reliever, ever try drinking when doing homework? All you care about is what your writing, and not the grade or the class, at least that's what I've experienced.

I don't get drunk socially all that often because I can't really stand parties with random people. I really love mixing drinks though at home, you can really make some good drinks if you try. I know where my limit is and I try not to go over but my first time, I was just a wreck.

It is said when you're drunk, you become one of the seven dwarves. I myself become Sleepy when I'm drunk, it just gets hard for me to keep my eyes open when I'm wasted, and I'll just fall asleep.

I will never even taste it, for the following reasons:

1-I feel it has no purpose at all, i have all the fun i want whenever i want, and i control that, not the amount of alcoholic drinks i tend to drink.

2- I am muslim, it is against my religion to drink, and even if it weren't, i still wouldn't.

3- How could drinking be an important part socializing ?? Its the basis of every last social problem. Divorce, family trouble, anger, ...blah blah blah.

    But that's just me.

It's too expensive, tastes awful, makes you stupid - I don't like to feel stupid - and my family has a history of alcohol problems so you won't see me drinking. I've never really had more than a small amount of champagne at weddings and such so I don't have the firsthand knowledge others do, but I already know the benefits couldn't ever outweigh the costs for me.

Regarding others' drinking habits: conceptually, I know there are responsible drinkers out there, but I have a hard time believing they really exist.

I've still got a headache from last night.. but that was an exception, old friends were visiting. Got a little TOO drunk.

SO and I have a few beers after work every day. I enjoy the buzz, the taste, and the relaxation it lends. I have a happy level that I know exactly how to reach and only rarely go past it, whether I'm at a party, out, or at home on a weekend. I don't enjoy being drunk drunk.

I hated the taste at first, too - it's acquired. Now I'm a porter/stout and scotch/bourbon aficionado. I always drink liquor straight, but never shoot (unless I'm hair of the dog-ing it). That way I can savor the taste & drink slower.

I drink on occasion, a few times a month, if that. Usually it's just one drink with my roommate at home. Oddly enough I like the taste of some drinks. Only been drunk three times, and none of them were too awful. Never had a hangover, and only had a stomachache once. Or does that count? idk.

Also, I strongly disagree with the idea that you have to be drunk to have fun. I just have to wonder what kind of life people lead if that's what they believe? Do they not have other hobbies they enjoy? :s

Sure, I enjoy a good drink from time to time. It's not like I go out with the sole intention of getting drunk, but I do like the flavor of a good beer on a special occasion. XD

I'm not a big drinker. I'll have mulled wine in the winter, a couple of Pernod and Blacks or Baileys if I'm out in the evening but thats not very often. I'll have some cider (Jaques mostly) on a very hot day if I fancy it but that isnt very often. I've only been drunk a few times in my life, its not something I like to do thats for sure. I certainly dont need alcohol to have fun but then again I dont go to clubs and if I go "out on the town" I go to small wine bars or jazz bars. Not the sort of places you get wasted in. Although, I do have wine quite often - I cook with it at least three times a week. Most of the alcohol is gone by the time the dish is finished mind you and you cant actually taste the wine.

I don't really drink. I don't like the taste of most of it.

I drink white wine and I drink Caesars and that's it.

Drink usually just at family events while eating a meal.

I don't drink alcohol at all because I know that if I have too much, then it's unhealthy. I also don't want to go on drinking habits.

It makes me laugh how some people say 'they never will' drink alcohol; give it time. Everyone dislikes the taste of alcohol the first few times, it is normal.

Yes, I do drink alcohol, I am a student, what do you expect! :3
My favourite drink's would be straight Whiskey or Rum. But I do enjoy my lager (Beer).

I don't drink alcohol at all because I know that if I have too much, then it's unhealthy. I also don't want to go on drinking habits.

If you have too much of everything it is bad for you.

I'm way too young to drink. Even when I get old enough, I will NEVER I mean NEVER drink. It causes a lot of problems and makes me cranky.
