Also, you can post little facts about animals you post, but keep it in alphabetical order, and you can do any animal, as long as it exists or existed. If an animal has more that one word in its name, use the first word as the alphabetical letter. Post pics, too!

I will start

Alligator.

There are two species: the large American Alligator, and the critically
endangered Chinese alligator.

Elephant

Diet
Staples: Grasses, leaves, bamboo, bark, roots. Elephants are also known to eat crops like banana and sugarcane which are grown by farmers. Adult elephants eat 300-400 lbs of food per day.

Population
At the turn of the 20th century, there were a few million African elephants and about 100,000 Asian elephants. Today, there are an estimated 450,000 - 700,000 African elephants and between 35,000 - 40,000 wild Asian elephants.

Range
African savannah elephants are found in savannah zones in 37 countries south of the Sahara Desert. African forest elephants inhabit the dense rainforests of west and central Africa. The Asian elephant is found in India, Sri Lanka, China and much of Southeast Asia.

Behavior
Elephants form deep family bonds and live in tight matriarchal family groups of related females called a herd. The herd is led by the oldest and often largest female in the herd, called a matriarch. Herds consist of 8-100 individuals depending on terrain and family size. When a calf is born, it is raised and protected by the whole matriarchal herd. Males leave the family unit between the ages of 12-15 and may lead solitary lives or live temporarily with other males.

They actually suffer a lot of diseases that humans can, and cancer is really common in them. :( It's very sad. They're also super cute and basically omnivorous and I intend to own a few at some point.

Iguanodon, one of the very first dinosaurs to ever be discovered. It had a spiked "thumb", was an herbivore, and Disney's movie "Dinosaur" featured one named Aladar as the main protagonist.

Dinosaurs were animals, too.

Llama

Not to be confused with an Alpaca. Llamas are believed to be only found in South America, like Peru for example. These creatures are very docile and their fur is sometimes used for exchange of goods since they produce good quality of it.

Mandarin Duck

Look how pretty the dudes are! They were originally native to east Asia- China, Russia, Japan- but now more are estimated to live in Britain than any of those countries. It's mainly due to exportation of these beautiful birds and destruction of their habitat. They seem to be able to form colonies pretty much anywhere they escape from captivity, so there are small populations dotted all over North America and the European continent as well as the other regions mentioned.

Nightingale!

A pretty little bird with a loud, beautiful song and often sings at night!

Orangutan!

[PokeCommunity.com] Alphabet Animal Game YAY!

The only Great Ape that lives in the wild outside Africa; being native to Indonesia and Malaysia. They're also the most arboreal of said family. They use a bunch of pretty sophisticated tools and make elaborate nests to sleep in every night. They're wonderful but endangered animals.

My favourite author, Sir Terry Pratchett, is a Trustee of the Orangutan Foundation UK. One of his recurring characters- the Librarian- is an orangutan. There was a magical accident. Don't ask.

A very fast bird with a large wingspan of up to 47 inches! It is also commonly used in a sport called Falconry!

Tawny Owl~

One of my favorite birds~. While usually sticking to rodents, this bird is known to eat small birds and even other owls!
