Yes, the title isn't lying. Mantine has been the overlooked cousin of skarm, and I thought it was time to put it to use.

DO NOT SPAM MY THREAD WITH POINTLESS OR ANNOYING MESSAGES/POSTS. EDIT: To clarify, just don't go randomly off-topic. As long as it involves what is currently being discussed or is relevant to the team, you're good. Things like "Yeah, I saw that on Serebii yesterday" just drive me nuts :P

So then, let's move on to this lovely team...~Hopefully~ lovely. I put a lot of thought into it, but I've had a lot of trouble putting it together and if total reconstruction is needed, be my guest. I just want a fairly decent team.

    Mantine (F) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Water Absorb
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
    Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
    - Confuse Ray
    - Surf
    - Toxic
    - Rest

MANTINE! Yeah, its 4x electric weak hurts. Confuse ray to rattle incoming boltbeamers and toxic for a better way to deal damage than surf. This thing actually holds its own against mixed infernape. It just has to be able to OHKO with surf, and I need your help with figuring out if it can do that. If not, what shall the EVs be?

Really, smogon's analysis was just bashing mantine, so I'm trying to make it useful.

The 4x electric weak really hurts it, but lol, there was this one guy introduced this gen that 75% of teams seem to be weak to...

Electivire (M) @ Expert Belt / Life Orb
    Trait: Motor Drive
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Cross Chop
    - Earthquake
    - Ice Punch
    - Thunderpunch

THAT guy! Once it enters the ring, attackers will think twice about Tbolting Mantine. But yeah, physical sweeper. I'm having trouble with the item, I'd like some facts behind your reasons for either one guys!

    Donphan (M) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Sturdy
    EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
    Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
    - Earthquake
    - Roar
    - Rest
    - Rapid Spin

Donphan is cool. Spinner and PHazer and physical wall.

    Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Levitate
    EVs: 252 HP / 108 Def / 148 SDef
    Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
    - Rest
    - Reflect / Light Screen
    - Charge Beam
    - Ice Beam

Cressi is a mixed wall for me, and it counters lots of stuff. I'm leaning towards light screen, but again, I'm undecided!

    Miltank (F) @ Leftovers
    Trait: Scrappy / Thick Fat
    EVs: 252 HP / 224 Def / 32 Spd
    Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
    - Earthquake
    - Heal Bell
    - Milk Drink
    - Body Slam

My beller since half my team uses rest to heal :0 also can hit with physical power against some pokemon, and TTar can have trouble with it.

    Salamence (M) @ Choice Specs
    Trait: Intimidate
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
    Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
    - Draco Meteor
    - Flamethrower
    - Hidden Power [Ground]
    - Dragon Pulse

After reading through the reasons for Hydrp Pump on Smogon, I realised HP Ground covers those, but also Empoleon and a few other big specsmence counters.

Also, remember the fact that Mantine is complete Gyarados counter if it doesn't run Ice Fang, which is rare to see if at all.

Heal Belling your resting pokemon? That's a first for my eyes, and it sounds rather effective. Kudos for that idea.

Of course, as 1000 complain about, that T-Punch can't OHKO Skarm However, it makes it easy on you against other Mantines. I don't think an Electivire T-bolt's enough to one-shot it. I personally like this setup better against criticism.

I like the team layout actually. I want to use Mantine so much because it's it's an underused Water/Flying type.

I'm liking your team. Mantine can serve well as a Special Wall as long as you protect that Electric Weakness.

Electivire, Cresselia, Donphan, and Miltank look fine.

Someone else who runs HP Ground on Specsmence is cool. I ran that once and it was moderately effective.

Liking it. I'm drained from work, so I can't get too far into an analysis, but looks solid so far.

Thanks. I'm just worried half to death specsmence doesn't obliterate me. Seriously, to max SDef mantine it does 57%-67% :0 That's a lot. I figureed to just add light screen support for that from cressi to help that. It would also allow me to afford making a few prediction mistakes with Mantine, since it xcan take a Tbolt that is halved.

Interesting...but Cresi handles it anyways :P

Nah, that's been around for awhile ;)

Yeah, I'm not concerned about skarmory. If it roars me, Specsmence might make a grand entrance, so I don't care. I hate wasting EVs powering up thunderbolt when I just want to beef up Atk.

It actually has been more useful in OU than it has in UUs for me :P sounds crazy, but it's true :0

Thanks guys. I just need to actually try it out. GyaraVire is so obvious, but Mantine is not expected and can actually wall some OUs pretty dang good. BTW, thanks guys, my threads have been getting more and more productive. Excellent ^_^

BTW, it SO ticks me off that mantine is the ONLY flyer NOT to get roost. what's up with that?

That's because most UU teams prepare themselves for Mantine. OU, not so much.

I know. I used to love UU pokemon (check my old threads) but I sucked too much to really use them well. But I've kind of gone back to that, and I'll say it's working really well. you'd be amazed at what a nidoking can do in OUs, it's impressive. Mantine doesn't have to worry about poliwrath and lanturn, who just destroy it in UUs.

Yeah, any help is appreciated since I had a lot of trouble making this, and like I said earlier, I'm unsure of lots of stuff. Help with those things especially would be most appreciated ^_^ Thanks guys :)

Now it's time to terrorize NUs with croconaw!

EDIT: an example of above would be Hypno, that thing OWNS in OUs, as does Articuno. though I have to go to sleep now, I have LOTS of stuff for the holidays to take care of lol

Not entirely. Nowadays, more n more Gyarados carry Stone Edge.

I detect a tad Gengar weak on your team, but that's just me. You know, the set that runs Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt, HP[Ice] and Focus Blast? I didn't wanna say Vire Weak since y'all knew that already, so I looked for another opening. That's all. :|

I like Mantine a lot, but never decided to run it because of the electric weakness. You make it seem safe with your plan in battles which actually might make me want to run my own. I'd run a Rain Dance/Swift Swim one too.

To tell you the truth, I've had a Confuse Ray-er before, and I don't think it worked out too well. I find confusion to be annoying, yes, but not particularly helpful. Might I suggest HP [Flying] to get some flying STAB in there? (That's just what I would do, but it's all up to you of course. ^^)

    Thanks guys ^_^

Well, since Mantine is my main special wall, I'd rather not run the swift swim set. And I would certainly use my second favorite pokemon ever to be a swift swimmer anyways...KINGDRA! lol

Donphan can take out Vire thogh, ice punch doesn't even 2HKO...and chances are that it wouldn't be taking ice punch on the switch anyways. So Vire is covered.

Gengar, I see your point. The only way I can really beat it is outprediction, which IMO is a terrible way to counter something. McGar gets drowned by Cressi. It's the pure special attack I worry about. Mantine absorbs all except thunderbolt like candy..."all but thenderbolt" being the key words. Vire can come in and take it down if it gets motor drive boost, but so many "if"s...I guess maybe I should go light screen then on Cressi to help with this problem?

I hate those berries ever so. Seriously, they never come in handy for me and when they do, I miss my lefties recovery :( Wait, this is still alive O_o

K, thanks. Cressi can at least switchi in and take one hit, so I don't have to risk losing Vire.
