4th Gen Anyone else have trouble choosing a...

lol piplup IS easily the best starter and yes i have gone through the game with all 3 of them my empoleon can 1 hit ko infernape and torterra with 1 move drill peck.

not to mentioned that if you give it a chople berry, it is invincible to infernape later on.

haha well this wasnt meant to be a "you should choose this one" thread but now its turning into something better and what i wanted, a disscussion/debate on this gens starters =) so lets keep it going.

o by the way i ended up goin turtwig, i mean torterra=giant turtlesaur lol

And Torterra can 1HKO both with a STAB Super effective Earthquake. Plus Empoleons stats are just plain bad. The only one worse than it on my Plat team is Rotom.

Anyways, If I were to do more run through's, I'd always pick Turtwig. It's a freaking beast of a starter.

1st Generation - Charmander

  • Bulbasaur - Despite it's second attribute, I don't really have a grass types on my team unless they are HM Slaves
  • Squirtle - If I'm in the mood for a change, I'll choose Squirtle instead of Charmander. Blastoise is a strong Pokemon, but I'd choose Charmander over Squirtle any day.
  • Charmander - A flying, fire-breathing dragon. What's not to love?
2nd Generation - Cyndaquil

  • Chikorita - I don't know why I have such a disklike for Grass types, but I really, really don't like Chikorita.
  • Totodile - Also a strong Pokemon. I used him in Pokemon Colleseum, and so there is a slight love for this Ferocious beast, but Typhlosion is just so awesome.
  • Cyndaquil - I <3 Quilava for some reason, and it takes a while before I let it evolve, but I love fire-types to death.
3rd Generation - Mudkip

  • Treeko - I think by this point you understand.
  • Torchic - I hate Torchic. Combusken and Blaziken are alright, but that stupid Chicken with no arms just grates on my nerves.
  • Mudkip - Swampert is right up in my top three picks for starter. I love how it is Water, but not weak to Electricity due to it's Ground type. And it can hit almost any Pokemon on the field with its Earthquake-Surf combo.
4th Generation - Piplup

  • Turtwig - Besides Bulbasaur, this is the only other Grass type starter that I would even consider choosing. I love how Torterra looks like his own island and picturing him using Earthquake makes me smile. (I know, I'm wierd)
  • Chimchar - For absolutely no reason at all I can't stand Chimchar. Maybe it's because it's a Fire/Fighting type, and I hated Torchic, so it's causing me to hate this little monkey. I think Nintendo is really shirking on their Fire starters.
  • Piplup - It's a freaking penguin. And it's wearing a Tuxedo when it's fully evolved. What's not to like?

Wow. Very long post.... :cer_giggle:

I used Piplup. Chimchar doesn't work all the well, stat wise, and Turtwig's final evolution just bugs me. >_> Plus, Piplup is best against MOST of the gyms. There's only one or two that would give us problems. Other then that, Piplup owns. <3 (:

No, I always choose the grass starter, and I have a turtle fetish.
The choice was clear for me.

turtle fetish, i lold XD

im likein my turtwig though, great defense and attack power! plus since its just in game and idc bout the natures it ended up being jolly so he will have a lil extra speed too

Nope. The moment I saw it, took a quick glance at the other two, I just knew I was going to use Piplup. Like, BAM. Just like that. Never mind that water types usually end up as my favorites: it was just adorable. At the time, I didn't care which gyms it had an [dis]advantage with. It was cute. That's the basis of why I chose it. D:

1st Generation - Charmander/Squirtle More Charmander

  • Bulbasaur - Good pokemon can stand up for itself and it is a powerful force to be reckoned with later in life
  • Squirtle - Awesome pokemon i love its a turtle (i love and own a turtles) like i mean it grows cannons
  • Charmander - O.K this pokemon is awesome unstoppable and really strong my personal favorite
So in Gen 1 all 3 are excellent choices and would be a great starter

2nd Generation - Totodile

  • Chikorita - I absolutely hate this pokemon its crap but i still think it is a strong pokemon it is just not my cup of tea
  • Totodile - the best of three it is a crocodile/Alligator strong and water 75% of time it is a great choice
  • Cyndaquil - Good pokemon but it is average i don't really care much for it but i would be happy to use it
So as u can see i am not much of a fan of gen 2 starters but keep in mind i have not used them since gen 2 and the move sets have improved dramatically so i might have a change of heart. Im going to wait for HgSs to give my final verdict of these three

3rd Generation - Torchic

  • Treeko -I cant stand this guy at all i just hate him and i rate him WORST STARTER EVER (in my eyes) But as i give everything a fair chance i used it and thought wait this is a good pokemon and i can see why people like i just dont.
  • Torchic - Best starter out of the three by far i love torchic lil cute chicken with no arms it is adorable
  • Mudkip - Great pokemon kinda like another Squirtle to me great pokemon and i am happy to use it i just like one of the others in the three more than it
4th Generation - Turtwig
Let me give u a lil insight to how i played Diamond for the the first time i picked Chimchar and i loved it great pokemon and all but i felt c\something was missing i personally think it might have something to do with a faulty movepool so half way through i think it was the 4th badge i decided im going to pick a different starter i picked turtwig and i loved it.

  • Turtwig - Great pokemon by far the best out of the three stong powerfull cute and awesome
  • Chimchar - great pokemon love all three forms and all that but like stated above not a great movepool in my eyes
  • Piplup -I dont know something about this pokemon was off i dont know why when i used it, it just did not seem right. But i still think it is a good pokemon
So in conclusion i thin starters are all personal choice there is no right or wrong decision just go with what u like there all capable of finishing the game

I always choose Turtwig. Not because I particularly like him, I just dislike the other 2 more.
Although I have to admit, Turtwig's final evolution is pretty cool. It's like he has an entire forest growing on his shell.
