Apple's Announcement of iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, etc.- 9/9/2014

I upgraded to iOS 8 last night pretty smoothly. Took about a half hour. It's pretty much like iOS 7. Nothing too fantastic.

I have to admit, I'm really disappointed in iOS 8
There's just nothing remotely impressive
"Widgets" aren't even real widgets- they're just small displays in the dropdown menu

Though, the build of the iPhone 6 is beautiful

I believe Apple demoed a live widget back in WWDC. I think it was eBay.

According to them back in the September event, I remember Eddy Cue said something along the lines of "Apple Pay will be available as a software update in October"... Hopefully they can kill some pesky bugs in the release and solve the Wi-Fi + battery issues.

Went to a carrier store to experience the new iPhones a day ago. I have mixed feelings about the new phones. I don't really mind those bands (which don't look that bad in person) and the protruding camera... But the phone feels really slippery. The feel is very different compared to the iPhone 5/5s. I honestly do not like how the new iPhones feel on my hands.

On the other hand, the new screen for the 6 Plus is gorgeous. The smaller one didn't really pack a punch, but the larger one sure did. I guess the larger size and its increased density were contributing factors. Reachability is an okay feature... Not sure if the touch ID sensor got damaged, but the store demo iPhone 6 had quite a bit of trouble accessing reachability, whereas the 6 Plus did it fairly better.

I was told by another person using the iOS 8 beta as a developer that Apple squashed that bug just before the release of iOS 8 to the general public; I have no battery drain problems at all on my iPod either with iOS 8.

I am using the GM build on my iPhone 5s, and I have substantially worse battery life compared to when the phone was on iOS 7.1.2. After 2-3 hours of "usage" in settings my battery was down from 100% to 33%, which is outright absurd... :(

I disabled all third party keyboards and turned off background app refresh. Still not much improvements.

I'm going to do a restore and see how it goes. Sigh.

So anyone hear about the iPhone 6+ and bending problems?
I follow the practice of buying phones ~3 months after release.
LOOK AT THIS

I heard about the bending. However, I think it's probably about time we need bigger jean pockets ya know?

Apple's been pushing me to update to 8.0.2 for a while now. It's getting annoying but I'm not gonna risk it. lmao.

The bending thing might be a bit of a media hoax after all, Apple's only had about a dozen reports of bent phones, supposedly. That's the power of social media for you.

I downloaded 8.0.2 on my 6 and it's just fine so far. Really worked out all the bugs as far as I can tell.

My friend's phone has iOS 8 (iPhone 5)
All good so far; the problems 8.0.1 introduced appear to be fixed

For those of you using an iPhone 4s and still undecided whether to update, this video gives some insight:
