You sure we don't have the same friend? o_O Mine's trying to get me hooked on Escaflowne right now, but it's not working. After reading part of the manga the anime absolutely can't compare........and it's icky shoujo and he doesn't realize it ._.;

Shoujo's good...just not when you mix it with mechs...or whatever the hell that dragon was.

I believe that that dragon WAS a mech.

Shoujo makes me take multiple showers after each episode...I was excited at the concept of fantasy mech but they somehow managed to make it disgusingly formulaic o_o;

My friend also wants me to watch Gundam Wing, Record of Lodoss War, and Gungrave, but I don't know which ones I'll allow myself to see yet. I realized long ago that anime doesn't necessarially guarantee quality.

You'd like Turn A, it's got a bit of romance, but that isn't the main part of the story. Plus, the Gundam has the best attack I've ever seen. XD

It is. The basic plot is that the human race split into two groups, one left to the moon, one stayed on Earth. Something happened to the ones that stayed on Earth, all their technology was wiped out. So most of Earth, even though it's the year 2345, looks like it's the late 19th century. The Gundam though, it has an attack called Moonlight Butterfly that turns anything technological to sand....which is pretty cool when you see it in action. XD
