James said he thought the Angels were coming for him,a girl in the Lugia 3-parter said her grandfather was in Heaven,Misty had a Cross,Brock mentioned Noah, there is at least some proof that at least some people in the Pokemon world believe in God.

Now for Ash,in the 8th movie he said "Lucario left to be with a friend",he said that while looking up at the sky. Now if he says that while looking up at the sky it atleast proves there is a God in the Pokemon world, because Ash knows that's where Lucario went. So,if Lucario was up in heaven(that's where Ash was looking) then it atleast proves one thing,Ash isn't an atheist.

IMO Ash is a catholic.

He could also be looking up in the sky, and saying that Aruseus is up there. Or Ho-Oh, who is flying around and can regenerate life. Remember that he said Bulbasaur's name while looking at the sky, in "Bulbasaur the Ambassador"?

I am only getting into a slight debate over this. I still say that Ash and the rest of the Pokémon world is "Pokémonist" and believe in the Pokégods. And also, wouldn't the process of evolution with the Pokémon species kind of bring things to a moot point?

He could just be looking at the skies because producers wanted to add a 'forward-looking' and 'hopeful' touch to the show? hmmms. =/

Anyways, I really don't think religion should be a topic for discussion on Pokemon.. I mean, Pokemon is a kids show.. Religious matters shouldn't be too much of a consideration.. ><;;

You're looking too much into it. Little kids can believe in angels and a higher being and not be of any kind of religion. o_O

yup.. and please people, don't forget this is a kids show afterall!! lolx :P

Perhaps he is a Christian, and does not practice it? Or perhaps he is...ya know...one of those religions that doesn't do those things? Like Taoism?

Besides, it can be taken as canon fact that the Pokémon world sees the Legendary Pokémon as "gods". Aruseus, or the Creation Pokémon, Mew, the parent of all Pokémon, Ho-Oh, with its power to revive life... The list goes on. Even Groudon and Kyogre could be used to explain how the world was made from a theological sense.

The Christmas episode was from the early days. That was when the real world was referenced. Like France, China, and even Noah and his arc. Nowadays, the real world is referenced at a bare minimum, so...

And also, Christmas has really lost its more religious side. I mostly see people using it as an excuse to shop, spend, and become selfish...

So, perhaps in the Pokémon world, Christmas is seen as a time to practice what the Lord would have wanted you to practice: peace on Earth, and good will to all men. The Pokémon world wants this as much as any other world...

That said, I feel that Ash is a Pokémonist.

Hmm ... I agree. The legendaries are becoming more god-like (ie, rayquaza, aruseus, mew and most of the other ubers), and while they don't pray in the name of any particular dogma ... I dunno. Maybe pokémonism doesn't practice prayer. O.o

I'm thinking that maybe it's a mixture of a few certain religions and a few its own, to create a completely different religion that revolves around a pokemon world. But aside from that I think the subject of religion in a kids show is a rather dangerous topic. There are a few of mentions of "god/s" in this world of pokemon, but never any specific hint as to what religion they could be. There are many religions that have a different way of looking at "God", and pokemon never says which one they are thinking of, but I'm assuming they mean it loosly. I'm thinking its a combo of Japanese Budist, Shinto religion as well as it's own stuff, and maybe the Amrican version adds some christianity to the mix.

Overall though I think religion really doesn't need to be known as this is a kids show, and knowing what religion won't help anyone to enjoy the show any more or less (unless one is that type of person who hates anything that isn't part of one's personal religion, or loves anything that is).

I like the idea of Pokemonism.. lol.
sounds interesting. xD

I'd like to say Christian, but it is most likely bhuddist, as it is made, and in Japan, as fair as I know, is the dominant religion. So I say bhuddist.

not to forget Shintoism as well.. it is also another major religion in Japan~ ;)

No, to be an athiest all you have to believe in is that there is no God. It has nothing to do with believing in Heaven/Hell/Angels/Souls/Ghosts/Aliens/whatever just that you don't believe in God. So an athiest could believe in a type of Heaven where they're not with God.

There are plently of people in the world that don't care about religion at all. Ash (and I think any character in a children's cartoon) just doesn't care either.

He's a ............. more of a philosophical guy. See he believes in Realism, where a world of 3-D animators that speak japanese control destiny and whatnot. Everything is predetermined by "the animators". They keep order in his world in place of government. Lol well that's just my theory =p

I don't think he has one. xD He doesn't seem to really be into thinking about that kind of thing very much, though I guess you could say he dabbled in the Pokemon version of Buddhism in Enlighten Up!.
