I don't think it's Lance... they've seen him too much in the Anime...

and i'm starting to doubt Giovanni... but why the heck does Meowth keep giving those little stories about him? are they trying to make him seem like a bigger character?... see it COULD be him! O.O

Ash's mom did say somthing in the second epi... she said "It took your father weeks to get to Viridian when he started his pokemon journey." It's all in past tense tho... so he could've died. ~_~

Cause I know they are completely different stories, but if Red has a father, should't Ash have one, considering that they are similar characters.

But in Pokemon Adventures/Special, Red doesn't have a father ... I don't even recall him being mentioned.

Anywho, I don't think that we'll ever see him.

I always figured Ash would've actually KNOWN who his dad was. Delia looks like the type who'd blather on about her husband, like "your father this" "your father that" and show Ash pictures, so I almost doubt he's a character we've actually seen before.

As for appearing in Shinou; I'm gonna wait till that's confirmed to get excited about it ._.

I don`t think we`ll ever find out about Ash`s father, it`s been at least 400+ episode`s and there hasn`t been a single clue. But I still think Ash`s dad is a Gym Leader is some far away region.

The narrator, i think its Ash of the future telling his tale, and when it becomes the last episode, (which will never happen), it might show ash like 50 years form now, explaining to his son what he did, and how he did so much stuff, and then he passes away, then ashes son takes ashes pikachu and starts a new journey traveling even new regions, where as we will all be here discussing in this thread, "WHO IS ASH's SON'S MOTHER!!??"

I think someone mentioned in Wikipedia that a Pokemon play, which I forget the name of (I know it had the song 'Double Trouble' in it), Pokemon Live?

Anyways, they hinted at a possible Giovanni-is-your-father. However, seeing as the Japanese didn't have this play, and that Ash looks funky, I don't know if Giovanni is really a candidate.

Plausible? Yes.
Ideal? No.

Anyways, blah blah blah... That would be scary if Mr. Mime was the father of Ash, but it wouldn't make sense. I believe there was this one episode that Mrs. Delia Ketchum gets the Mime from the circus in the early saga. But I looked at Serebii.net for that, so I may be wrong.

And for that other guy that said Ash's father was cruel, and that he walked out on the family:

He is a Pokemon trainer. Pokemon Trainers have to leave, explore many places, even Delia mentioned it. Ash Ketchum is a prime example of a Pokemon Trainer. He leaves, only visits after every series is finished, then he leaves. I believe that the father also does this kind of thing, but that they actually never meet together, or chat it up.

And Japanese always does something like this. They always make it a mother-son relationship with almost always no father.

I guess the Americans kept it that way as well.

There is a possibility that his father could be hinted at further in the recent Diamond and Pearl Saga, who knows he might be part of the elite 4 or even show up in a DP-based movie, even though it's resally early to start speculating over that.
