I'd be upset...but there's maybe been less than a dozen games EVER released in English that would have needed an R18 rating here; and they're either niche titles or get slightly edited here anyway. So...I don't care s'much.

man, our Government really needs to grow up and accept the fact that times have changed and not make every single damn thing safe for kids

What doesn't make sense is the fact that games that they consider to be higher than MA15+ will be banned for both the audience it's considered not suitable for, AND the adults at the same time! xD What the hecks the point of even rating them if nobody can get them? Dx

It's not so bad. You'll still have Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. Oh, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

Seriously, though. This is absurd, especially since they said they were reconsidering the web filter (or so I heard). -10 for the Australian government treating its citizenry (and especially its parents) like misbehaving children.

It's also worth noting that MMO games will not be impacted by this

Exclusively online games are not submitted to the OFLC for classification.
My original question (sent to the OFLC on August 22, 2005) was answered today when the OFLC's Ron Robinson called me to discuss this topic (I sent a followup email a couple days ago after the GTA stuff jogged my memory of this ancient request).
Ron let me know that World of Warcraft was not rated by the OFLC – in fact, was never even submitted for classification – it was a "waste of time" as the game is exclusively online, exclusively multiplayer, and has no defined start and end. Thus it is inherently unclassifiable.

Come to America, we're trashier better.

Do they block out proxies as well?

Rudd is such a tool. This is part of "making the internet a better place" but somehow, it takes priority to actually upgrading our network, which they promised to do as soon as they got in.

I should be 18 by the next election. Although according to Wikipedia, they can hold it in August 2010 at the absolute earliest, which is a month before I turn 18 =/

If they axe Shoddy, they better watch their backs...

    Wow.
I would be a rather angry gamer if I was in Australia.

I think that is taking it a bit too far. That is taking away a persons free will to decide on what they play.
The government might be thinking about how games effect us and if it can lead to crime and such.
But I think that is more of a 0.1% of people who go to the extreme. For example, killing their own parents because someone took away their game.

Personally, I think it is a bad idea and it is unfair to the people who like to unwind while playing these types of games.

I like to de-stress with a violent game, if someone is the same in Australia, and they can't de-stress that way, what other ways are they going to de-stress :/

    :::EDIT:::
    FALLOUT 3 IS BANNED!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
    OH MAH GOD!

That is one of the most stupid things I have ever heard!

That's pretty miserable =S I hope that doesn't happen here...

So wait if you are an adult you can't play the game for your age group? Wow. This is getting a bit over the top in Australia. Soon you'll tell us that they will ban alcohol in your own residence if you are over 18.

It's little different from the AO rating in the US, which is essentially a death warrant for any game that hopes to be sold in retail stores.
