As far as I know, it's just an optical illusion, and I don't know more than that x_x;
If you want to see some truly good illusions, I recommend getting a book with the work of M.C. Esher in it; his art is amazing. I used to have a shirt with the image of the a hand drawing another hand drawing the first hand that was his work. If I can find any good images on the internet, I'll post those.
