5th Gen B/W spoiled me with speedy battles

I absolutely loved the speed-up in the battles. It made everything just... so much faster and easier, which generally meant I spent more time playing the game and had more fun. Now, going back to the older games, it never really bothered me when I went back to play like Emerald. I mean I noticed the difference in speed a little bit but nothing so big that it threw me off my game entirely. :(((

lmao @ the OP
I can't stand playing D/P/Pt because of how slow they went. I absolutely love the faster battles. Whenever I go back to play my Pearl, I usually give up within a few minutes just because it takes me like five minutes to do a wild Pokemon battle. ._. So faster battles were a Pokeblessing.

Slow battles are not my thing. I definitely turn off 'battle animations' as soon as I start any game.

The game engine used in Platinum/HG/SS was a streamlined, sped-up version of the D/P/P engine, so going back to play those aren't a real problem, but going back to play Diamond or Pearl, even compared to the third gen, are so slow that they just become unplayable.

Once I went BW, I can't come back to Generation III. Why? It's all on the battle speed and text speed! The fastest text speed available in BW is even faster than what's it is in Generation III or IV. Makes for really speedy progression and battles.

I can't come back to Generation IV, not after its slow battles. Neither Generation III, since the text scrolls slow, I find myself pressing A when the text hasn't scrolled completely!

I always notice that too after new games come out lol. idk I loose patience with slow old games after experiencing good graphics and faster animations in newer games.

DP were the first main Pokémon games made for the DS, so they were in midst of experimenting with what they could do, and the result... really slow battles.

Years later, still on the DS, in BW, they have worked on it, and have produced some of the fastest battle systems to date. And we're loving it.
...Which really does spoil us, yeah. xD;
Let's hope the next games manage to be even faster, or people will grow tired of them too.

Well I will still play the older games but its manly Pokemon Black at the moment :)

Wow I feel dumb because I never noticed this. My BF turned off the animation so his is super fast...but I cant' turn them off because than it's too boring without the colours and stuff.

I guess the choice is always between good quality (=enjoyment) or speed (=efficiency).

With the slower games like DP, you might want to considering turning battle animation off, if you want to keep your efficiency high.

I've noticed by the way, that BW occasionally lags on the field maps, probably because of the loading of all those graphics. So when BW were made, they had quality in priority to speed.

For grinding I would turn it off to speed it up, For main battles I leave it on :)

It's good that they made the battles a lot quicker in Pokemon Black and White because if they didn't then I would be driven crazy. The battles that I usually have in Pokemon White such as battles with Pokemon that drain your PP by using Protect, Toxic, healing moves, Double Team and any other moves as such would take twice as long. So Instead of battling for 10 minutes, I would be for 20 Minutes which will drive me crazy

I dont have any problems to play the older games like D/P and Emerald. But i can say that Emerald and LF/FR is faster when it comes to battle then D/P. But the IV generation battles is RIDICULOUSLY slow!

Right now i like how they made that you can choose the speed of a battle in B/W.

the slow speed in the other games doesn't bother me so much, i see it as a show of how the games have improved and find all pokemon games awsome. the speed being fast one black and white does mean you get get more battle in before class starts [or teachers are awsome enough to let us have our ds in college] but they all are good and just keep improving.

Well, the slow speed annoys me for a little while when I take time to adjust...but then again, it did that between swapping between Gen III and Gen IV games. So overall, I tend to find it to be not too much of a problem. Although with the high standard of BW, if they'd still been as slow as DPPt, then I would have probably raged repeatedly.
