Also, machomuu, Satoshi, you guys in particular might find this article interesting. I found it pretty awesome, and I wish all localisation teams would be this transparent and thorough when explaining the process. It might save certain individuals who have nothing to do with said process from losing their jobs...
I read it and... it still confirms that NISA did their job poorly.

Is your purist attitude towards localisation grounded in anything other than purely personal preference? I'm genuinely curious...your standards confuse the hell out of me sometimes. xD

Nah, he's just a PlayStation fan lol (;

That simultaneously explains everything and nothing, so I guess that works. xD

I don't care how faithful to the Japanese version something is or isn't, just as long as I'm kept entertained~

I'm two ways about it, but completely skipping why I'm two ways about it and going to mah comment, I think about this a lot.

Honestly, if translations were made for me, they'd be colorful as hell. I understand why people want the same experience as the original Japanese versions, but I also know that a lot of Japanese scripts are filled with incredibly dry, personality-less fluff and generic mumbo jumbo that sounds the same regardless of who's saying it. From what I've heard of HDN's japanese dialog (with the little auditory Japanese I know), it definitely has that.

Gonna be real, though, cute girls looking cute or saying generic cute shit isn't enough to keep me around. This' why I don't like boring waifus with copy-paste personalities. So yeah, I do agree on a personal note. If your writing is filled with character and overall does a better job at being a script than the original does, I'll like it. Integrity's nice, but having fun's fun.

You're not actually serious, are you? Just checking before I launch into a tirade about it which would probably offend you if you were. It never hurts to be careful with these things~

Oh most certainly 237.89% serious. Hit me with your best shot.

Shh, we've got another thread for that.

I'd like to come clean about something; I am absolutely pissed that the new Valkyrie Profile joint is a damned mobile game. I am seriously considering resorting to chemical warfare cause this needs to stop.

Oh no, I'm done with that thread and that topic of conversation. I don't know if I'm more disheartened or disgusted, honestly. Just...whatever. Just go and read what I wrote in the thread or something. I've said all I want to say. For once, I don't really feel the need to belabour the point.

It probably shouldn't bother me anyway because, as I said, I don't think Souls games are particularly hard. I just don't really know what to say after a point to what, in my opinion, is a needlessly elitist attitude with zero grounds for existence. This coming from ME, of all people.

I'd also like to add that a smartphone title can not be considered a proper instalment in the Valkyrie Profile series in my opinion, no more than Federation Force could be considered a proper instalment in the Metroid series. I get that they might just be testing the waters for interest (although this is Square Enix, so I doubt it) but...well, announce a proper game alongside it, or at least hint at one. An HD remaster or classic re-release of Silmeria on PS4 would be a better way of gauging interest anyway...

I'm just going to assume that Valkyrie Profile is a PlayStation title - as I've honestly never heard of it and it sounds like it would be an anime-esque/Japanese branded game - but why don't you think that smartphone titles can further video game series?

I didn't say they couldn't, but I have yet to see a smartphone RPG that can even come close to matching a console RPG. Excluding ports anyway, and even those are an inferior experience in my opinion. I'm sure there are plenty of good quality ones out there, but...well, I expect better, and I don't get it from smartphone titles, which is why I don't give them the time of day. I'm fed up with Square Enix constantly screwing over my favourite series anyway. First they publish an online multiplayer shooter out of The Legacy of Kain, now they're bringing back Valkyrie Profile on the worst platform on which to do it. They're the Konami of RPGs these days.

Also, Valkyrie Profile is a tri-Ace series, and they have zero involvement in the title I believe...I could be wrong about that, but I remember reading it somewhere. If that's the case, I expect it'll be completely different tonally, and I can't imagine Square Enix doing a good job with it when they've ballsed up nearly everything else recently.

Plus I don't have a smartphone and even if I did I wouldn't use it for gaming, so there is that. It's more personal preference than it is anything else, I'll admit. Nobody said I have to be rational in my ravings, right? =P

Stop. Don't even disrespect SE with that nonsense. Sure I don't agree with what SE is doing but Konami is literally the worst aspects of the Law and Chaos routes of every Shin Megami Tensei title.

I stand by my assessment. What is disrespectful is the way Square Enix has been treating its fans and its franchises over the last several years. As far as I'm concerned, all Square Enix has over Konami at this moment in time is that they're taking steps to improve. Something I doubt Konami will ever do, and Square Enix will probably half-arse it like they do nearly everything else.

It'll depend, for me at least, on whether they can keep up the Dragon Quest localisations after the upcoming 3DS titles, NieR Automata, and how good or bad the next couple of FF games after XV are. Balanced against how many more franchises they butcher in the meantime.

Yeah, when it comes to video game developers, fans have expectations for upcoming games made by the developers.

In other news, I may not be interested in Undertale, but this is kind of funny. One of the presents I got for my birthday yesterday was Undertale.

good now you have an excuse to be interested in it

I can't believe i'm still pretty decent at League of Legends after once again not playing for so long. I had to admit that i stopped playing because of a bad string of losses in normal queues a week ago, then i played again for fun, lost 2 more games, then just exploded with Blood and Supermurder on my next two rampages, which i hope that by getting my butt back into the game, i'd play a whole lot better. I do feel bad that a lot of my friends have vastly improved on their ability to play as well as their ability to create a decent mindset, which were a far cry from the days i still had to whip them into decent teammates. Also, i can finally play Kindred at a really competent level. All that Top Lane Kindred practice helped me be a better Jungle Kindred.

Then my EX-girlfriend PM's me a few days ago telling me to play some Overwatch and I was like B***H I'm reserving my stuff for Battleborn and more League (need to reach Challenger), and even DOOM4 (and reach "Challenger" on that game's multiplayer as well) after I move to my new gaming rig soon. Then she's lulling me for Reaper's skins and I'm like... GEE GEE WINKY FACE, then again, its just skins for Reaper.

Speaking of grills who can play FPS games:

Sharing old VODS of CS:GO that features All girl teams... so the next time someone or some of the ladies here are told by some of the guys that they shoot like a girl, these CS Grillz already know what to do. Inb4ishareaXinstorytimeofHowachickactuallythoughtmehowtoplayCounterStruck

Speaking of, actually, Paladin's pretty fun.

If you guys can get a Beta key, I recommend trying it out. It's basically your Overwatch F2P alternative (so basically TF2 if it were less Shooter and more Action), and it ain't bad.

It's been a surprisingly long time since I played a competitive game online.

I wouldn't say my standards are that hard to see. I don't want localization that makes the game accessible to western audience through content. I want localization that makes the game accessible through language. Without additional gimmicks. And without English dub, but that's somehow necessary.
And regarding that article, it's the guy that was responsible for localization of RB2 and 3 (no big problems there) but especially Neptunia U (which made IFI kick him out), there's no way his opinion about proper localization could be considered valid.

Nah, he's just a PlayStation fan lol (;

Well yea, I hardly can be a fan of console without games so... PS is the only way.

Nah, I feel you. I just think that in comparison, Konami is just....well, I won't say irredeemable but that's close enough to what I'm thinking.

Any thoughts on the Gears 4 beta? Been enjoying it. Get to level 20 and you'll get some bonuses in the full game.

Also, I wonder what the actual sales for Squenix's mobile games are. In Japan, of course. That they would release games as they do and Level-5 would even forego making a 3DS sequel to Fantasy Life in favor of putting it on the phone really must say something about the models in general over there.
