Bay's Goals

So I guess I'll try out this "goals" thing too. Only thought of a few I want to focus the most, probably will add more if I thought of them.

-Decluttering
So I have a lot of junk in my house like notebooks/papers, books, clothes, etc. What I would like to do is every so often I'll want to check some of my stuff and decide which stuff I want to keep and which ones I want to get rid of. I already started checking out some notebooks and threw away a couple.

-Clean the house on a regular basis
This is something that shouldn't be hard to keep doing, and I do stuff like dishes, clean living room, bathroom often. However, according to my parents it's still not enough. I also have my days where I would rather procrastinate than clean the house. So yeah, I'll need to be reminded of this every so often.

-Balance between writing and giving feedback on other stories
I do like reading fanfics and beta/edit my friends' works, but sometimes I want to have time to write. And when I do take a break from reading to focus on my own work, I suddenly come back with stories updated with ten chapters already lol. I also feel bad if someone says, "No one is giving feedback on my story," knowing that feeling too well. So yeah, want to balance between reading and writing.

In addition to that, perhaps I would like to try my hand at original writing as it's been a long while since I've done that.

There's a decluttering method that I think is pretty useful, called the konmari method, which is where you take everything of a certain type and go through all of them at once. So, like, with clothes, you open up all your drawers and put all your clothes out in one place at the same time and go through them. You ask yourself "does it bring me joy?" and if it doesn't then you get rid of it. Of course that doesn't always work because some clothes are necessary for work, interviews, special occasions, etc. but otherwise it works pretty well. I've done it myself. And if you have too much of something then narrow it down a little, like to shoes only or something. This is if you want to go for a real deep clean that lasts. You're looking at the big picture so you can really see what you have and find out if you really need that one thing when you have something just like it.

It's not an easy process and it will take some time potentially. But after it's done you won't really miss the things you got rid of so much and you'll enjoy having less clutter.

I used to hate cleaning. My room was a disaster. Then one day a switch went off and I went on a cleaning rampage. I probably spent a good 4 hours cleaning my room, my bathroom, and then rearranging everything because I think I was just bored with my rooms layout. I enjoyed it. Now I clean every so often. It's relaxing and is a good way to clear your mind, in my opinion.

As for throwing things out...I'm very bad at that. But my advice is to take a couple things at a time and force yourself to throw one out. If there are pieces of clothing you never feel like wearing, throw them out (or even better donate them). I'll give books I don't want/need anymore to coworkers or friends so they can read them, too. It's easier for me to get rid of things if I know someone else can enjoy them instead of them being thrown in the trash.

@cutiefly: Yeah organization can be overwhelming, heh. I appreciate the thanks, though

@Esper: Oh I think I heard of that method. Sometimes I kinda do that, have everything in one place and then organize which stuff I'll keep and which I won't. I might give that a try soon.

@Keiran, yeah I get the cleaning your room cleans your mind phrase. It is a good feeling, heh. Yeah so far taking my time with decluttering. My family already donated several clothes we don't want anymore. As for books, I did set aside several of them somewhere and plan to donate them to my local library probably. Otherwise, I might ask my friends if they're willing to have my books probably.

The hardest part of cleaning and de-cluttering is simply getting started. Once you get over that hill it's not as hard a task as you originally feel. Play some good music and get stuck into it and after a while you'll probably start enjoying it to an extent even. Then when you're done (and only when you're done) reward yourself with something nice. Then you've got inspiration too.

Oh and never take long breaks because then you've got to get over the hurdle of getting started all over again.

Hey, Bay! Have you been able to clean the house more regularly this new year? Have you been able to declutter a little bit yet/do you have a plan for it?

Also I should maybe make giving more feedback on work one of my goals as well, eh heh.

I've been able to clean regularly, yeah. Lately though my dad thinks because I missed a few spots here and there that I'm still lazy and makes me less motivated to do so. =/

As for decluttering, I started looking through some old notebooks a few days ago, but then I put it off for a bit because busy with cleaning house. Once I'm in a better mood, I'll think about a bette plan for decluttering more stuff.

hey bay how are things going? have made yourself like a cleaning schedule or something?

I think so, yeah. I decided that I'll clean a little bit of the kitchen (clean counters and such) and dishes everyday if someone else doesn't beat me to it. That's in addition to trash day on Wednesday nights. Bathroom I'll clean one or twice a week, usually on the weekend. I appreciate you checking up on me! Got behind on updates after being sick mid-January oops.

I'm glad you got a good schedule going! I think it's always helpful to have a routine; it makes remembering to do everything so much easier haha. I think I saw you were working on a big fic recently? How's that going in being balanced with that project and continuing to help others with their writing?

It's been going good so far, I believe. Luckily the fic updates here slowed down a bit, but usually I might set aside half an hour or so to read/review and then spend most of my free time writing if I'm in the middle of a project. My current fic I actually got done with the first draft and am now doing some edits based on my friend's suggestions. Keep an eye on my tumblr, it should drop either late tonight or sometime tomorrow haha.

Yeah it's based off Spirit of Justice and has spoilers on the last case. If you want to wait until you find your 3DS then totally cool. Good luck trying to find your 3DS!
