[Best Rookie March 2011] Begin, Again (Kanto Journey RP)

@ Beechlgz - Good seed fight!

Tulip (Bulbasaur) grew to level 7!
Rose captured a Taillow! (male, lv 4)

"Alright, what are we going to do with you?" Axel asked the Snivy. She'd walked stubbornly a little into the route before giving into releasing the creature. They had to come to some kind of understanding as they were quite stuck with each other for a while.

She sat on the ground against one of the spare trees that dotted the landscape. Even she had to admit that it was quite the pretty route. There were a few lavish farmhouses and barns and the rest was all farmland. There were fields full of berrybushes, fields with fruit trees and more so fields full of grain making the hills look almost entirely yellow. And through all those fields ran the wide dirt path. It was obvious how many times it had been treaded for there was a wide path of grass in the middle and on both sides was simply dirt where the vehicles and feet had trampled any life that tried to grow there.

Snivy just shrugged at Axel's question, looking at her with a bored expression. Then suddenly her tummy rumbled. "Ah, you're hungry aren't you?" Axel asked, retrieving some a bag of dryfood for Pokémon from her bag. It was meant to be for all kinds of Pokémon, which was the worst fabricated food you could give but as she didn't know what type of starter she'd get she had had to make do with something. "You want some?" She asked, temptingly hanging the bag in front of the Snivy's face. The creature lunged for it longingly and Axel quickly snatched it away causing Snivy to fall face-first into the mud.

"I don't want to have to do this, but we've got to come to an understanding. I need someone to battle for me, you need food." She got Snivy's attention now. "So here's the deal, I'll feed you, you fight for me. First thing I'll do when we get to the next city is buy you the best food they've got, alright?" the Pokémon reluctantly nodded. "And another thing, I'll get some treats too, you get to pick what you like. When you win a battle, you get a treat. Now do we have a deal?" Axel extended a hand and Snivy did as well. They shook on it, as much as you could shake hands with a Pokémon. This was going to weigh heavy on her cash as well as add a lot of weight to her bag, but if she could get the creature to cooperate it would be worth it.

Before doing anything else she had to find out about Snivy's information. She grabbed the Pokédex the professor had given her. The thing started to talk but she quickly shut off the volume, preferring to read the information herself. "Hmm, grass snake Pokémon… stronger in sun-light… and quicker too, interesting… tackle, leer and vine whip huh?" she made a note of it and put the 'dex back in her bag.

"Now first we'll need a name for you, I can't go around calling you "Snivy". You're a girl, am I right?" A nod. "I thought so, you act like one. Now let's see…"

"What about Smugleaf, you're smug enough for it," Snivy stuck out her tongue and looked away, visibly offended. Alright so maybe offending one's partner was not really the way to go. "Alright, I shan't call you Smugleaf then, but how about March?" She suggested. Snivy's eyes widened a little bit but she pretended she didn't care by shrugging. Axel saw that she liked it however. "Right, March it is," she put a few pellets on her hand and allowed March to eat them from there. "And we definitely need to get a feeding bowl of sorts as well, I'm not going to let you eat from my hand forever.

"Well alright then," Axel stood up, brushing the crumbs of the pellets from her hands. "We've gotta get off now, and we definitely need to get you stronger. Let's face it, you're weak now," this received a glare from March. At the same moment someone started yelling.

Axel turned around, startled by the noise, only to see a big burly farmer running through his field, flailing his arms in the progress. "WRAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" he yelled and hundreds of small gray birds flew away as he did so. Axel watched curiously as the man ploughed through the rows of berry bushes on which hang a large amount of small blue berries.

"WRAAH, WRAAAH," he flailed his arms forward in a shooing motion, but the last of the flock wasn't flying away, instead the bird turned itself on the farmer, pecking him on the forehead. The big man swore loudly, trying to hit the bird with his hand but it simply flew out of reach and then bit his hand, causing more curses to erupt from the man.

Axel sighed, she wasn't really the 'helping' kind of person but this farmer just looked so pathetic, and it could prove useful for experience. She stepped onto the farmer's field, plowing through extended branches from the bushes. March ran ahead of her, quickly leaping over roots and ducking under branches. As Axel and March approached the bird distanced itself from them, sitting on a bush barely a meter away and keeping a close eye on everything.

"Excuse me sir, but you look like you could use some help," it wasn't a question, it was a fact.

"You c'n say that again!" The farmer's voice was low and rough from the shouting. He was a little shorter than Axel and definitely pudgier. "Those pests never do leave m'berries alone! I make a livin' outta farmin' y'know? N' these be one of m'best payin' berries! 'N to top it all off tha'one bit me!" he wiped a bit of blood from his forehead where the bird had pecked him. "'N now 'm bloody bleedin'!"

"You'll be quite alright, it's just a scratch," Axel said dismissively. "Headwounds always bleed a lot and it barely broke the skin. March and I will chase this one away for you then," she offered and the farmer nodded, still swiping at the wound on his head.

"First let's see what we're up against." She retrieved the Pokédex again. So the bird was called a Starly and it seemed to have a fascination with the Yache berry. She requested more information on the berry and the 'dex showed her a picture that was identical to the berries on the field. That explained a lot. It also had powerful wings and keen vision, she had to keep that in mind.

"Right, let's start the battle with a vine whip!" she ordered and March nodded. A vine appeared from behind March' yellow collar and snapped toward the Starly. The bird flew away in time and the vine cracked only onto thin air, but it got the point across to the Starly. Battle was on.

Starly tucked its wings in and dove toward March with speed and rammed into March' side, throwing her against the dirt, before either her or Axel could have realized what was happening. "March, retaliate with leer!" Axel commanded quickly as she had been taught at the trainer school. March got up with a quick roll and locked eyes with the bird. The latter was caught in a bit of a trance, unable to take its eyes away from March. "Right, now use vine whip to throw it towards the ground," two vines appeared from behind March' collar this time and each wrapped around a wing. Then March made a pulling movement which started Starly's journey plummeting toward the ground. March did not let go keeping the bird's wings from keeping it in the air and it landed face-first in the mud.

As Starly got up from its fall a low growling sound came from its throat, it was not happy at all. March head the sound too and was visually disturbed from it. Starly quickly, if with a bit of effort as its wings weren't in top-condition anymore, rose about a meter in the air and with one strong flap of its wings it shot forward, leaving a white trail of light behind, and slammed into March who was propelled into the bushes, crying out in pain from the impact.

Axel stayed calm as was taught, don't panic over your Pokémon when they were hit. As if the air knew they were in trouble the sun came out from behind the clouds and Axel remembered March' Pokédex entry. "March I want you to stay in the bushes but get your tail in the sun, alright? Soak up some sunlight!" March did as told and to Axel's relief the leaves of her tail blended in perfectly with those of the bushes. Starly grew impatient as it circled above the field looking for its attacker. It circled lower and lower, scouting for a creature made invisible by camouflage. After a few minutes had gone by Axel deduced that March had had enough photosynthesis to go on awhile.

"Alright March, I think it's about time for the finishing blow, you've delayed it enough," she said it a bit crabbily. "Listen carefully, I want you to bring it down with a vine whip as you did before but as soon as it hits the ground you need to tackle it as quickly as you can." As commanded two vines shot out from the bush March had been hiding in and wrapped around Starly's wings. With the same pulling-motion the bird bit the dust once more, quite literally, and connected to the ground with a 'thud'. At the exact moment of impact March shot forward with her new-found solar-powered speed and crashed into Starly, not even bothering to retract her vines. The both of them tumbled into the bushes, causing quite a few berries to fall from the branches to the ground.

The bushes rustled a bit and Axel held her breath. Then March crept out backwards, pulling a fainted Starly with her. Axel exhaled and March retracted her vines, leaving the knocked-out bird on the ground. "You did alright," Axel admitted and a heavily panting March stuck her tongue out at Axel. Then the farmer coughed, grabbing their attention again.

"Well thank ye lassie," he said. "I've, er, got sumthin' for ya if ya dun mind, a bit of e' thank you, hold on a snitch, gotta get it first," he started walking away, then thought of something and turned around again. "Y'mind getting' rid of th'bird for me?" Axel nodded and off was the farmer.

Axel picked up the bird, cradling it in her arms while she struggled to get to the end of the field through all of the bushes. She laid the creature in the bushes under a tree where it would regain consciousness in due time. The bush would protect it from any other wild Pokémon around.

After a few minutes the farmer came back with a white package in his arms. He panted a little as he reached then having half-run the way back and Axel granted him a moment to regain his breath. Finally he undid the knot of the package and revealed a handful of blue berries, though different ones from the Yachees they'd been defending. "Here's sum o' the Oran berries fer ya lil' friend," he gently put them onto the ground where March started chomping them immediately. "They're a healthy bunch fer Pokémon so she should be 'n top condition in no time! And here," he handed the frabric in which the berries had been held to Axel. "It's a pretty 'nuff scarf, belonged to the missus but she dusn't want it no more," he explained. Axel recognized the properties of a Silk Scarf, an item enhanced to boost certain attacks but didn't mention it for the farmer might change his mind if he knew it would bring up quite a bit of money if sold.

"Thank you sir," she said earnestly and put away the scarf. "Have you ever considered getting a Pokémon to guard the field from those Starlies? Perhaps a Poochyena or a Hertier? You could train them to keep the birds off of the field," she suggested and the man nodded. "But we've got to be off now, thank you again for the berries and the scarf."

"Not a problem, 'n I'll look into thar Pokémon then, now off with ya, ye've been lazyin' around long enough!" he shooed them away and even managed to get Axel to display a small smile before nudging March along.

@ Doc - That's one Snivy with personality. I'm glad they came to an agreement :) Also, great post and a creative battle that was fun to read.

Chapter 2~
Part 2
A Rival Revival!

Shigeru paced down Route 01 with Kai perched on his shoulder and his newly captured Lillipup, who he has decided to name Inu. The Puppy Pokémon seemed to be okay about being caught, but Shigeru figured it was because of the capturing process, which Shigeru still finds quite confusing. From when he started out in the academy until now, he still wanted to know what life is inside a Pokéball. He turned his attention towards the sun. It was setting. He didn't really want to camp out on Route 01, since it's all fields and crops and stuff. He felt more like sleeping in the Pokémon Center, since he was used to sleeping in a bed. He picked up the pace and started to move more quickly. Inu started running as well, to keep up with his new master. Shigeru looked at the puppy.

"I think I better call you back in your ball now," he told Inu as he took a ball from his pocket and pointed it at him. The ball released some kind of red energy that enveloped the Puppy Pokémon and sucked him in. After Inu went back to his ball, Shigeru bumped into something. He thought it was a tree, but as he turned to face what he bumped into, he realized that the "something" was actually a "someone", and that someone was someone Shigeru didn't want to see in his journey.

"Shigeru-kun!" the boy said, "So I guess you passed that battle test after all. Probably out of pity." The boy was the same age as Shigeru, but the guy was atller, probably around 6'. He wears a black jacket with red Pokéball designs on it. His eyes were black and so was his hair, and of course, the one thing Shigeru wouldn't resist be irritated at, he seemed to be always wearing that boastful grin.

"What are you doing here, Teijii." Shigeru told the boy, "Aren't you supposed to back in Pallet Town where you should be." Teijii let out a mocking laugh. He then took out a Pokéball from his pocket and threw it in the air. It opened up in mid-air and let out a creature with what looked like a big bulb on its back. Its eyes glowed red in the setting sun. Shigeru took out his PokéDex and scanned the data out of the Pokémon.

{BULBASAUR: The Seed Pokémon
[PokeCommunity.com] [Best Rookie March 2011] Begin, Again (Kanto Journey RP)
Bulbasaur can be seen napping in bright sunlight. There is a seed on its back. By soaking up the sun's rays, the seed grows progressively larger.}

"Well, while you were screwing up your life, I was chosen to receive this Bulbasaur here from Professor Cedar..." Teijii noticed the Oshawott perched on Shigeru's shoulders and frowned. Shigeru, on the other hand, smiled at Teijii's disappointment. "Well, I chosen to receive this wonderful shiny Oshawott here." he said proudly. Kai hopped off of his shoulders and walked towards Teijii's Bulbasaur. At first they just stared at each other, but after awhile, the Seed Pokémon "accidentally" Tackled Kai. The liitle otter Pokémon fell down flat on the ground. It stood up and rammed the Bulbasaur back. This time, the Bulbasaur fell flat on the ground. Soon, they were face-to-face in an angry manner. They both wanted to battle each other. Kai looked at Shigeru with eagerness in his eyes, and his trainer nodded.

"So hows about we have a little battle?" he told Teijii, and he replid with a smirk. He looked at his Pokémon and the Bulbasaur backed a away from Kai. Suddenly, without any warning, Teijii shouted out his command. "Bulb use Tackle!" And the Seed Pokémon ran towards Kai. Surprised by the sudden action, Kai wasn't able to move quickly and so he was hit square on the chest by the Tackle. Shigeru frowned at the act that Teijii had done. "Hey, that's not fair!" he shouted at him. "Life's no fair" Teijii retorted. Kai stood back up and shaked the pain off. He waited for his trainer's command, which of course he'd had to translate to get his moves right. "Kai, use Ram!" he ordered the otter. Teijii tried to hold his laugh but failed. He laughed so hard some Poochyena started barking. Then, Kai stormed forward to hit Bulb with a Tackle, which he thought was what his trainer meant by "Ram." Too busy with laughing, Teijii wasn't able to tell Bulb to dodge the attack, so the Bulbasaur got hit by Kai's Tackle, making him fly off a great distance and fall on the ground. Teijii noticed what has happened and stopped from laughing. He then returned to his previous state, that really annoying grin. The grin that made Teijii look like everything Shigeru does always fall according to his plan. Bulb stood back up and looked like no damage was done to him at all. Flabbergasted, Shigeru's mouth fell open. "Nice try, but that "Ram" of yours isn't gonna beat my Bulb. That shiny Oshawott of yours is nothing special. He's just an oddly-colored piece of Magikarp. Now, Bulb show him what we've got, use Leech Seed." The Seed Pokémon wore a smirk almost similar to Teijii's. Panicking, Shigeru thought about what he had learned about Leech Seed. [Let's see here, Leech Seed, Leech Seed, Leech...oh no!] "Kai, jump out of the way!" he shouted at his Oshawott. A seed flew out of Bulb's back and shot straight at Kai. The otter stepped out of the way, and he successfully dodged it. Shigeru let out a sigh of relief. He had managed to make out of that really close turn of event. He turned his attention back to the match. He saw Teijii still smiling, even though that Leech Seed had missed.

"Kai, use Aqua Beam!" he shouted. Kai inhaled a lot of air and exhaled a blast of water. The Bulbasaur didn't bother dodging the Water Gun and let it hit him right on his head. He managed to endure the pain, but it was clear that he had been hurt because of the bruise that it had left on his forehead. He shook of the remaining water on him and looked like he was reinvigorated. Shigeru facepalmed. How could he have forgotten about the type disadvantage? This wasn't the time to feel sorry for himself though, so he remained focused on the match. "Hah!" Teijii mocked Shigeru, "I can't believe you just used a water-type attack on my Bulbasaur. Then again, you are pretty stupid. Bulb, use Tackle at full speed." The Bulbasaur stormed at Kai in full speed. [Wait a minute, that's not full speed.] And Shigeru was right. Bulb was running at a normal rate. Shigeru snickered. He didn't bother telling Kai to doge it since Kai pretty much already did. Bulb rolled and stumbled on the ground until he finally fell upside down. Shigeru smiled and managed to hold his laugh. He was too well-mannered to laugh at other people's mistake. Except this one wasn't a mistake. He took a look at Teijii's expression and noticed that he was still wearing that grin on his face. "Do it." Teijii said, and Shigeru wasn't sure what he meant...until he turned his attention back at the Seed Pokémon. A seed was already growing on its bulb. Shigeru did the only thing he was able to do in such a situation. "Kai, watch out!" Too late. The seed flew straight at Kai and landed directly on his forehead. At first there was nothing, then he was wrapped in vines. Soon, he was covered by thin vines all over his body, and after a few moments, energy was absorbed right outta the poor thing. Shigeru's face was full of horror. He just walked straight onto Teijii's trap. Bulb hopped back up and rammed Kai in full speed. Not being able to move, the shiny Oshawott flew a great distance and hit a tree (again). After he fell down, Kai received another shock from the Leech Seed. After that, he just laid down lifelessly on the ground.

Clearly, Teijii had just won the battle. Shigeru quickly called back Kai into his Pokéball for the first time since he let him out of it. "I'm sorry about that, pal. I promise it won't ever happen again." he whispered to Kai's Pokéball. He placed the ball in his pocket and turned to face Teijii. He has returned Bulb back in his Pokéball, too. Teijii faced Shigeru with that boastful grin of his. "Well, Shigeru-kun, I guess I am, and always will be, a better trainer than you." he told him. "That was just pure luck. Next time we meet, you'll be sorry about being chosen to receive a Pokémon." Shigeru replied. Teijii shrugged and walked away from Shigeru. Right after he left, Shigeru thought about meeting him again. It seemed like their rivalry from the Academy had just been ignited again. It was as if the rivalry in them was revived. He knew they'd meet again, so he had to train harder to beat him next time. He turned his attention towards the sun again. The sun was almost down, and stars were popping one by one up the sky. He decided to run this time. Even though he had just been beaten by an old rival, he still didn't want to camp out on Route 01.

@ Ace - Good post, well written battle. I see you're reusing names ;D

- Kai (Oshawott) grew to level 7!

Chapter 2: Training Sessions with Starlia the Starly

Rowena picked up the PokeBall which had stopped shaking. She unlocked the button and watched as a beam of red light formed into the shape of the Starly. Looking thoughtfully at the newly-caught Starly, Rowena spoke, "Hmm, I'll have to give you a name. Saying Starly all the time might get confusing if we're battling with one too. I think…..Starlia would suffice." The black bird fluttered its wings, before grinning happily at her. "Ok then. Now that's solved, time to train you and make you become stronger in battle." Starlia flapped its wings and tweeted, as if agreeing to Rowena's plan. Rowena took out the PokeBall and pointed it at the Starly. A laser beam of energy shot out and wrapped Starlia in a layer of red light, before pulling it into the red-and-white capsule.

Pushing and jostling her way through the small hedges and brambles, Rowena searched for wild Pokemon inside the grass patch. Then, she heard a soft humming sound coming from behind the large trees. She walked towards the sound and peered from behind a thick tree trunk. It was a small group of Hoppip floating in mid-air. This could be just the Pokemon for Starlia to battle! Rowena smiled to herself. Moving at a slightly faster pace, she hurried out from behind the trees and walked directly towards the Hoppip group. Some of them spotted her coming closer and skipped away to safety. Rowena wanted to know more about these odd Pokemon and referred to her Pokedex for the required information.

Hoppip
[PokeCommunity.com] [Best Rookie March 2011] Begin, Again (Kanto Journey RP)

Cottonweed Pokemon
It drifts on winds. It is said that when Hoppip gather in fields and mountains, spring is on the way.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Come out Starlia, training time!" A flash of cinnabar red energy pulsed from the ball and materialized into a Starly. A few Hoppip decided not to run away and instead fight Rowena and Starlia. Rowena gave the first few commands and the battle began.

Starlia took flight and slam ferociously into the first Hoppip challenger. The Hoppip then jumped up into the air and wobbled for a moment, before parachuting gracefully at a spot a distance away from where it first was. Starlia then flew towards the Hoppip and forcefully ram the floating Grass pokemon. The Hoppip was tossed to the ground many metres away and went limp. The next Hoppip in line did the same move as it predecessor used and a strong miniature body slam was presented to it by Starlia. As the black bird went in for the kill, the Hoppip emerged itself in a mystical cloak of sunlight and its leaves turned a bright orange-pink. Starlia pushed all her strength into the attack but the Hoppip still survived with a little bit of health left. Starlia then dove in straight for the last heavy body smash and knocked out the Hoppip.

The last Hoppip came up and used the same strange move that did nothing. Rowena regretted training Starlia on these Pokemon as they were no match for the little starling. This battle is going to be a boring short one. Rowena sighed before instructing the Starly to quickly defeat the last Hoppip standing. Starlia fluttered its wings before charging at the still Hoppip. All of a sudden, when Starlia was about to come in contact with the Hoppip, the wild Pokemon unexpectedly swerved its body to dodge the attack and bounced up high in the air and floated back down to the ground. Starlia flew back and prepared for another ram but the Hoppip evaded the attack using the same strategy.

"Starlia, try to attack slightly more to the right side of its body!" The Starly chirped back in reply, to show that it understood it's instructions. The little fast bird zipped through the air and headed for the Hoppip. When the cottonweed Pokemon was about to bounce and wobble in mid-air, Starlia jerked her wings and steered more to the right. BAAM! The Hoppip was shocked by the first physical hit and before it could recover its senses, the Starly had dove down at it and slammed as hard as it could. The Hoppip couldn't take it and its eyes rolled around and around, unconscious.

"Yay! Great job, Starlia! You were awesome during the battle, keep it up!" Rowena cheered and hugged the adorable black bird in her arms.

Chapter 2~

Inu Training!

Shigeru kept running as he raced against the clock to reach the Viridian Pokémon Center before the sun sets. Unfortunately, he is running too low on energy. Not only has he lost against his old rival, he also feels weird not having Kai on his shoulder. He ran and ran and ran, trying hard not to think about his stamina. Suddenly, he tripped on something and fell on the ground. It was a good thing Shigeru had his arms stretched out right before his face met the hard ground. He stood up and looked back on what he had tripped on. Apparently, it was a Pokémon. The thing was round, owl-like with very large, red eyes. Around these eyes are black rings, with extensions on the lower parts of the pattern resenbling stylized eyelashes. It has a black-colored crest on top which resembles the hands of a clock. He took out his PokéDex and pointed it at the creature.

{HOOTHOOT: The Owl Pokémon
[PokeCommunity.com] [Best Rookie March 2011] Begin, Again (Kanto Journey RP)
Hoothoot has an internal organ that senses and tracks the earth's rotation. Using this special organ, this Pokémon begins hooting at precisely the same time every day.}

"Hoot-hoot!" the owl Pokémon shouted. Shigeru figured that this Hoothoot would always do that at precisely the same time everyday. He made a mental note about that. The next thing he thought about was what to do now. He wanted to capture one, just for the sake of observing it more closely. He wonders how this Pokémon could manage to stand up on one foot everyday. He started to dig through his pocket. He thought of grabbing Kai's Pokéball, but he remembered the battle he had just lost earlier on. [No. It would be best if I let him rest for now.] Instead, he took out his other Pokémon. He threw it and it opened in mid-air. It released a bright red light that beamed out onto the ground. The energy formed a dog-like silhouette and soon revealed the second member of Shigeru's team, Inu. "Woof!" the puppy said as he stretched out his hind legs from being inside his Pokéball for so long. The Lillipup looked at his new master in dismay. Shigeru didn't know why, but he'll figure out soon enough. Inu shrugged and walked towards his opponent. He stopped once he reached a considerable distance. He then let out a yawn, which might have annoyed the Hoothoot a little bit, because it's clock eyebrows looked like it was furrowing. The owl Pokémon charged straight at the puppy, and amazingly, Inu dodged the attack in an incredible speed. The owl kept going until it hit a ((OOC:I can't believe I'm gonna say this again xP)) tree.

Shigeru gazed at Inu with his mouth hanging open. He didn't really know his Lillipup was that fast. He shook his head and got his head in the game. ((OOC: No. Not that song.)) "Inu, use Tackle!" he shouted, jumping for joy as he finally said his first correct command in a long while. Apparently, Inu doesn't feel like using a Tackle. Instead, the puppy Pokémon stared at the Hoothoot, attempting to lower its defense. It was using Leer. [Now why would he disobey me like that] The move failed and the owl stormed towards Inu again. Despite being fast, this time Inu got hit. He didn't fly off, but he did slide on the ground, which might have hurt his paws, because he started jumping up and down while barking.

For such a long time, Shigeru have finally ordered one of his Pokémon to use an official attack, but Inu just had to ruin the moment and ignore his trainer's decision. Of course, Inu paid the price by having his paws get blisters on the ground. Still Shigeru can't help wondering what was up with his Lillipup. Awhile ago, before he set sight on his rival, Inu was perfectly fine, following him wherever he was going, but now, he was ignoring his trainer's orders. Shigeru shrugged the thoughts away and focused on the battle. "Inu, listen to me. If you want to win this match you've got to listen to me. Use Tackle on him, but while you're running, use Leer, too." At first the puppy just stood there staring his trainer in the eyes, then it rushed towards the Hoothoot with that Leer in his eyes. [Of course!] Shigeru figured out why Inu had been acting so strange. Back before he was first captured, Shigeru noticed how much damage he had taken when Kai used Water Gun on him. Before, Inu was not used to losing, nor was he used to taking damage at all. Shigeru guessed it was his first time to lose when he had captured him, and now he didn't want to lose again.

Now that that was over, Shigeru's mind returned to the match. The Leer-Tackle combination had worked splendidly. The first attack, which was Leer, had made Hoothoot lower its defend, and with a direct hit from a super-speed Tackle, the owl Pokémon flew. Shigeru waited for it to hit yet another tree, but instead, it just kept flying. And flying and flying. The Tackle had literally made the Hoothoot fly. [Oh well. So much for observing.] Inu ran back to his trainer and Shigeru knelt down to meet his Lillipup. He patted the puppy's head, while Inu licked his trainer's hand. "Don't worry. As long as you're with me, you'll never lose." he told Inu, and Inu replied with a bark and a wag of his tail. Shigeru stood up and faced where he was heading awhile ago. He tried to peer into the darkness that was coming with the setting of the sun, cross that, the set sun. He saw dots of lights and a big Pokéball that lit up someplace. It took moments for him to realize that the place he was seeing was Viridian City. He ran off towards the light, totally forgetting about Inu following him. Together, they chased the light that would eventually lead them to his next stop.

Ho-ho-ho, everybody's training today!

@ Diamond - Good job fleshing out the battles a little! Poor, weak Hoppips xD

- Starlia (Starly) grew to level 5!

@ Ace - Aww, I'd wanted you to have a Hoot-hoot :3 But Inu's adorable.

- Inu (Lillipup) grew to level 5!

"No you're not getting your treat," Axel insisted. March had been bothering her all day long, pulling at her leg, kicking up dirt, shooting her dirty looks. "For one, I need to buy your treats before I can give them to you and besides don't you think the berry you got from the farmer isn't a reward enough?" March shook her head violently, in strong belief that that lousy berry had not, in fact, been enough of a reward. But, even though she didn't understand a lot about the humans and how they did things, she did understand that her trainer didn't have her treats. But that didn't mean she couldn't whine about them.

March stopped in her tracks, sitting on the road with her arms crossed. The message was simple, she wasn't going anywhere. "March!" Axel called, rather exasperated. "I. Do. Not. Have. Your. Treats!" March didn't budge. "Fine, you want to stop, we'll stop." Every bit as stubborn as her Pokémon Axel sat down on the grass beside the road and unpacked one of the granola bars she'd stolen from the Academy's supply room before going out. Just as she was aggressively chewing the remains of it she bit on her tongue hard and tears shot in her eyes. March laughed which got her smacked in the face as Axel furiously swiped away the tears, tasting blood. "Alright enough! You're going to come with me right now even if I have to carry you!" She jumped up, about to drag March along against her will when a painfully familiar voice cried out.

"YOU!"

Axel turned around to face her absolute least favourite person in the world. "Hello Caren, I see you passed your test as well, unfortunately," she said icily. Caren had been on the Academy with Axel and the two absolutely hated each other for obvious reasons. Caren was one of those girls with a perfect head of blonde waves and a flawless figure with parents rich enough to buy her into the academy. And one of those girls who felt it their duty to rule said school from the moment on arrival. Axel was the type of girl who didn't like socialities but also who didn't about what others thought about her or said to her but also the kind to ace most every test without any visual efforts (though in reality many nights of studying) which Caren couldn't take. Thunder and lightening ensued.

"How come you got the shiny one?" Caren demanded, looking absolutely flawless like ever, although in reality said flawlessness was accomplished by the right amount of make-up and heavy dieting and expensive shampoos. She was travelling extremely light with only a purse (with golden credit card no doubt) with her and a very shy Bulbasaur peeking out from behind her legs.

"I would expect that I did far better on the test than you did and therefore got rewarded with a shiny," Axel said, shrugging. She didn't put much value behind March' discolouring as it wasn't something that she cared much about. "What's wrong, daddy not able to buy out the professor like he had the Academy board? No doubt how he bought you your trainer license anyway?"

Caren's mouth opened once, closed, and opened again as her mind was digging for the right words to find. "I got my license fair and square thank you very much," she finally said, however her face showed a bit of doubt. "And in any case why would the Professor give you the shiny one, everyone knows that you're the timebomb, look at what happened to that poor Horsey," she placed her hands on her hips, showing an open hostility. She was referring to one of the practical lessons when Axel had worked a poor Horsey so hard that it had collapsed immediately after the battle and had had to spend a few days recuperating. It had cost Axel an unpleasant time at the office being lectured about the well-fare of the Pokémon.

Axel shrugged again," I'd won hadn't I? So is your only objective her bringing up cold cases because in that case you're wasting your time." Axel started to turn around.

"I want a battle."

"Ah, for once you're speaking clear and simple instead of like a venomous snake. Sure, I'll show you just why I was the one rewarded with a shiny and not you," Axel said with a smile. She got the silk scarf from her bag and tied it around the Snivy's neck. "If you kick her ass I promise that the first thing we do when we get to the city is buy you the best treats we can find," she whispered quickly and March' eyes got a very mischievous glint.

Both trainers took positions about 10/20 meters apart creating a battlefield out of the road. Axel looked at the sky, the sun was still shining so March should get an advantage out of that but there were some clouds gathering a ways away. Both Pokémon also took to the battlefield, although the Bulbasaur required a bit of coaxing from Caren and were ready to face off. "After you," Axel said confidently and Caren wasn't making her say it twice.

"Bulby, girl, use Leech Seed!"

"March, dodge it." Bulbasaur, or Bulby as Caren called it, shot a seed from the center of the growth on her back but March dodged it almost without effort, being full of added speed and strength by the sun. "Now use Vine Whip!" Axel commanded and March obeyed, whipping one vine at Bulby, who jumped away right on time to avoid it. "Again!" And March obeyed again using the other vine to whip on the other side. Bulby's momentum prevented her from jumping the other way and she cringed as the whip clashed against her side.

"Bulby don't stop with the Leech Seeds, just continue until you've got it!" Caren commanded, she was never very good at creative tactics. Bulby shot more seeds at March but she dodged them all.

"March use our Vine Whip/Tackle combo again!" Axel instructed, she truly believed that this was in the bag. With the combination of sunlight and superior intellect it would be a walk in the park to beat dear old Caren. March used both vines to restrain Bulby's front paws and launched forward throwing aside all defenses to relay a tough blow. The impact made Bulby fall back but the Bulbasaur was a tough one and shook her head. She then bit one of the vines and March cried out, releasing both of them. Axel made a note of it, so the vines were a part of March so much that they had nerves.

"Bulby just hit it with a Leech Seed!" Caren was getting increasingly annoyed with her Pokémon. Lucky for her, and not so much for March, was that the mass of clouds just then decided to make a track over the sun. March lost her special advantage and was not quick enough to stop to three seeds that came from the Bulbasaur. The burst open, wrapping vines all around her. They didn't leech any energy as March was a grass type herself but they served for constriction.

"All right!" Caren cheered. "Well done girl, now tackle it!" March struggled but she couldn't get loose as Bulby came close, albeit a bit slowly as she wasn't the speediest Pokémon, a delivered a fierce tackle, doing quite some damage.

"March, for God's sake, bite yourself loose!" Axel demanded and with that March started biting the vines, pulling them loose one by one. It was a tedious task as the vines were thick and tough and Bulby was already readying another tackle. March was visibly hurt after the second tackle, the vines keeping her from actually being thrown backwards from the impact, but she still didn't cry out and stubbornly continued biting and tearing the vines. One might actually mistake it for loyalty for her trainer, though the real determination came from the prospect of the river of treats she'd get from beating this particular enemy.

Then the clouds passed the sun and the route was bathed in sunlight again. March' tail, which had previously been starting to droop stood up straight as a board soaking in the rays of the sun. With renewed strength March took several vines in her mouth and ripped them all, fighting herself free from her restrictions.

"Now Bulby, use a tackle!" Caren commanded but her voice betrayed that she was getting a little desperate.

"March trip Bulby with a vine whip and then use your own tackle," Axel said calmly and March was already getting the vine ready, starting to get in tune with her trainer already. One vine wrapped around Bulby's front leg and tripped the Bulbasaur, causing her to fall over in a roll. Then March jumped forward headfirst in a tackle that, powered by the sun, the silk scarf and Bulby's own momentum turned into the finishing blow for the latter. Bulby was out for the count and Caren grudgingly called her back. One might be able to hear her grinding her teeth from miles away.

"I won," Axel said smugly, walking over to pick March up who was teetering dangerously from fatigue.

"And you haven't changed a bit," Caren said with as much ice as Axel. "Look at the condition of your Snivy, those tackles are almost as damaging to her as to the opponent, I should report you."

Axel shrugged," they'd probably disregard it anyway. There's no law that says battling can't be a little risky, and you're just angry about your loss. There is such a thing as a tactic you know," Axel said matter-of-factly, though she was cradling her exhausted Pokémon. "Anyway I do believe you owe me some money now," she said with a smile.

"Yeah whatever," Caren passed her the loser's due. "We'll meet again I'm sure," with that she stomped away.

"Now, let's get you healed up a little," Axel said which got a tired smile from Snivy. She made sure to keep the tail well out in the sunlight, wondering how far it was to a Pokémon center, or at least a bush with those berries the farmer had given them…

@ Doctor Who - Inventive battle! Axel sure is confident, I like her.

- March (Snivy) grew to level 7!

Chapter 2: Final Additions from Route 01

Rowena was almost completer with Starlia's training and decided to call for a short break. With the Starly back in its Ball, Rowena found a low stone wall and sat on it, legs hanging at the side. ZAAMMM!!! All of a sudden, a loud explosion startled Rowena. She looked around the vicinity, eyes terrified, but saw nothing that could create such a sound. Then, from the corner of her eye, she detected a violent rustling in the grass patch a distance from where she was. A huge cloud of feathers churned from the patch and a flock of about 5 to 7 Pidgeys fluttered away from the grassy patch, in a frenzy manner. Rowena activated her Pokedex and the data for Pidgey came out.

Tiny Bird Pokemon
It is docile and prefers to avoid conflict. If disturbed, however, it can ferociously strike back.

She turned her attention back to the moving grass. A yellow flash was emitted and a fainted Pidgey was thrown out of the weeds. The tall bushes finally broke through and an angry Shinx stomped out. It glared menacingly and the escaping flock of Pidgeys before barking sharply at them, as if to say "Get lost!". Rowena thought that this Shinx would be a very useful addition to her team and the more Pokemon, the merrier. Her Pokedex beeped, telling her that another Pokemon's information had been unlocked for her to view. She curiously flipped open the device and read the text.

The extension and contraction of its muscles generates electricity. It glows when in trouble.

"Amber, I choose you!" Amber appeared in a sparkle of orange energy and the flame on its tail burst with vigour. The wild Shinx spotted Amber and started to charge at her. Amber received word from Rowena to attack and launched blue bolts of fire that grazed and pelted the Shinx's fur. The Shinx carried on its attack and battered Amber, so hard that Amber took a while to get back up.

The Charmander then stared angrily at the Shinx, which cowered back slightly at the burning gaze of Amber. Amber then lunged out at the Shinx with pointy claws and swiped it across the flank. The wild Shinx yelped in anger at the Charmander and its fur bristled. It started to charge at Amber with its blue-and-black fur starting to dazzle with light. It knocked Amber right off her feet and sent the golden lizard tumbling to the ground.

Rowena could see that both Pokemon were getting tired, especially the Shinx as it didn't receive much rest from its previous battle with the Pidgeys. She ordered Amber to lower the wild Pokemon's defenses. The Charmander's eyes became a deep purple and stared eerily at the Shinx. The Electric-type Pokemon gazed back warily, trying to hide its fear of the gaze. Rowena felt that this was the time when the Shinx was distracted and tossed the PokeBall into the air. The Pokeball bounced off the forehead of the Shinx and landed right in front of its paws, before opening to let out a wave of multi-coloured energy that drew the Pokemon in like a funnel of wind. The PokeBall rolled on the floor and stopped near Rowena's feet, its button beeping. Rowena crossed her fingers and together with Amber, stared at the PokeBall.

Chapter 2: Last Training Session in Route 01, with Electrux

Rowena held the PokeBall in her palm and looked observantly at it. I guess I'd better train it. Don't want Electrux to be weak. Rowena's eyes perked up! She had unknowingly found a perfect nickname for the Shinx. She unlocked the button and a red laser beam was released and materialized into the Shinx. "Hello, I'm your Trainer. From now on, you'll be named Electrux." The Shinx pondered for a minute, before agreeing to its new name with a sparkle of its fur. "Now, I want you to become stronger, so I'll have to train you."

Rowena set off towards Viridian City and scanned for wild Pokemon in the patches near the city. The sun was starting to set and the surroundings became slightly dimmer. As she was walking out of a grassy patch which to her dismay, did not contain any wild Pokemon, she was badly hit from behind and fell down. "Ouch....Ah!" She opened her eyes and saw a mean-looking Lillipup growling at her. It must've knocked her down. It tried to charge at her again but before it could go anywhere near her, a blinding flash of light intercepted its path and knocked it backwards.

"Electrux! Thank goodness, you're here!" Rowena sighed with relief, her tone sounding very desperate. The Shinx said nothing and continued its battle against the Lillipup. Electrux went for another battering session and punched the wind out of the puppy. The Lillipup countered with its own attack and rammed the Shinx. Electrux was getting agitated and his fur was bristling with electricity.

The Shinx glared at the Lillipup menacingly and the little dog cowered temporarily. Seeing that it was vulnerable, Electrux charged at the Lillipup and headbutted to the trees nearby. The dog's head and upper body whacked the tree trunk and the Lillipup slumped to the ground. Taking that as a sign of defeat, the Shinx perked its head up proudly and turned to face Rowena. But Rowena noticed the Lillipup quietly getting up and as it began to charge at Electrux, Rowena shrieked, "Watch out!" The Shinx could not dodge in time and was knocked to the ground. The Lillipup and Electrux traded nasty looks at each other, until Rowena shouted a command that broke the eye contact. The Shinx ran towards the Lillipup and butted its flank. The Lillipup countered with a small body slam.

Electrux gave the Lillipup an obnoxious sneer that made the puppy barked warily. The Shinx could scent its fear wafting from behind its fur and without hesitating, lunged forward at the Lillipup and gave it a full-body tackle to the lower body and legs. The wild Lillipup was unprepared for the sudden attack and fainted on the ground with a whimper.

"Good job Electrux! You taught him a good lesson!" Rowena patted him on his head. "You look exhausted, I think I'll send you to a Pokemon Center to heal up." She took out his PokeBall and watched as the Shinx become cloaked in the red energy and warped back into the Ball. Rowena then made her way to the nearest Pokemon Center which was in Viridian City.

Ryan and Tepig(Don't worry he will have a name soon)
Route 1

The sun was bright, maybe a little too bright for Ryan's taste. It was also hot, very hot, and if you knew Ryan you would know that she is not a big fan of the heat. Ryan dragged herself down the dirt path, she was tired and she had only been walking for fifteen minutes. In front of Ryan was a tiny orange and black ball of energy. It had a hold of a small rock, and was playfully hitting it with his snout, causing it to fly a couple feet in front of him, the Tepig would then squeal and run towards the rock and hit it again. He continued to do that for a good ten minutes until the rock hit something... an old red truck.

Ryan gasped. She knew that farmers around here took their trucks very seriously and that some of the farmers wouldn't be afraid to hurt the people that damaged their trucks. Ryan quickly ran up to the truck and examined it for any dents or scratches. Luckily the rock did not cause any harm.

"Hey!" A hoarse voice could be heard from a distance. Ryan quickly scooped up Tepig and tried to make a run for it. But she ran into the belly of a large old man, who was wearing a red button up plaid shirt and old worn out overalls. He looked like a farmer. "What do ya think ya doin hur, Honey?" .... yup he was defiantly a farmer.

Ryan began to quiver. The man was old, large, and looked mean. "Sorry sir, my Tepig was playing with a rock and it kind of hit your truck." The man let out a small growl, which was a little odd for a man to be doing. "I'm so sorry." Ryan repeated. The old man scratched his long gray beard, as he looked at her. He was about to say something, but he noticed something.

"Oh dang flabbit!" The man shouted as he ran towards his truck. Ryan awkwardly just stood there with her Tepig still in her hands. "This dern beast keeps on trying to get in my crops! I caint do nutin about it though!" The man seemed to get a little emotional about his crops. As he wiped away a tear he seem to have realized something. "You! You have one of them ther pokemans, If ya defeat this horrible beast I will give you an award." An award? Ryan smiled. "You got yourself a deal!" The old farmer smiled, showing his lovely.... four teeth. "My crops are down there, the beast is somewhere inside of dem eatin up all mah corn." He pointed down to a large field with many stalks of tall green corn.

Ryan confidently marched down to the field with Tepig right by her side. She was thinking of what this beast could be, maybe it was a rabid Poochyena, or a crazy Lilipup, or an angry Shinx? Something began to russell in a patch near Ryan, she looked down at Tepig, who was staring directly at the moving patch. "Are you ready Tepig?" She asked her Fire Pig Pokemon. The Tepig nodded but still stood in "battle" stance. The beast seemed to be creeping closer and right when it was dead in front of Tepig Ryan shouted, "Tackle, now!"

Tepig shot himself directly towards the beast, only to be surprised when he hit a large fluffy, pillow-like substance. But the pillow wasn't comfortable, it gave Tepig a nasty little shock. Tepig regained his stance and was ready to attack the pillow again. He charged towards the beast again only to be shocked yet again.

"Mareep!" The beast growled, annoyed. The beast had been discovered.

Ryan's mouth dropped when she realized that the beast had really turned out to be a cute little Pokemon. She pulled her Pokedex out of her bag and pointed it towards the large ball of fluff.

Mareep, the Wool Pokémon. Mareep stores static electricity in their woolly coat. They avoid battle and have mild dispositions.

Ryan watched as the Mareep continued to eat the crops, not paying any attention to the Tepig that kept ramming into its cream, wool that was full of eltricity. "Tepig, stop." Ryan called. She couldn't just keep letting Tepig get shocked, while the Mareep took barely any damage. Tepig stopped attempting to tackle the Pokemon and looked at his trainer. "Listen, try your best not to touch the wool, it is shocking you." Tepig nodded and waited for further instruction. "Oh yeah," Ryan had forgotten that she had to continue calling out attacks. She pulled her Pokedex out again and looked through the list of attacks that Tepig had.

"Ember." Ryan called out. Ember would be a good attack to use against Mareep, because Tepig would not have to actually touch the Sheep Pokemon.

Tepig scrunched his snout and then released a few red specks of flame towards the Mareep. The flames hit the Mareep causing it to cry out in pain. Now the Mareep was mad. It ran towards Tepig and knocked him down with a tackle of it's own.

Tepig growled and got back on his feet. "Try ember again!" Ryan shouted, knowing that the first ember had done a little damage to the Mareep. Tepig released more flames and just stood there watching them shoot towards Mareep, but this time Mareep dodged attack and hit Tepig with another tackle. Tepig stood his ground this time, but he was tiring out quickly.

Ryan began to panic. "Okay try to use ember, but move them around. Do you understand what I mean?" Tepig nodded and attacked once more, this time shooting the embers out in different directions. Mareep dodged a couple but a few hit it directly. It cried in pain as the small specks of fire burnt it's skin. The embers had left a small singed spot of fur on it's forehead.

Ryan had an idea. "Okay, Tepig use tail whip, but hit it on it's forehead." Tepig, who was breathing heavily, sprinted towards the Mareep, somersaulted in the air, and smacked his tail right on the Mareep's forehead. The Mareep cried out. "Now, ember!" Tepig let out another round of red flames right in the Mareep's face. Mareep cried as it fell to the ground. Tepig tackled it one more time, to make sure it was out-cold. The Mareep did not move. Ryan, a little baffled that her idea worked, grabbed a Pokeball and tossed it towards the Mareep.

A red glow engulfed the Pokemon, and the ball landed on the ground and began to rock back and forth....

The pokéball stopped. Mareep had been caught! The farmer came back and walked up to Ryan. As a reward, he gave her a beautiful, bright scarf. He didn't seem to know about it's abilities to strengthen pokémon...

@ Iwasapony - Nice first post! I'd rather the text size was 2 though ^^' I made the farmer give you the scarf, but if you'd rather write about it in the next post, simply disregard the little paragraph above this one :3

- Tepig grew to level 6!
- Ryan got a Silk Scarf! (raises power of Normal type attacks when worn by a pokémon)

(Sorry about the size... & I believe I have caught up now ^_^ )

Ryan, Tepig and Mareep

Route 1 Rival Battle

Ryan held her newly caught Mareep in one hand and the beautiful scarf in the other. Ryan never really did wear scarves, but she did learn in school that some scarves gave certain Pokemon powers if you put them on that Pokemon. Why did the Farmer have a scarf anyways? So many questions left unanswered. The farmer had left before Ryan could have asked, but she was proud that she had helped the man get rid of his "beast" problem.

Tepig, who looked like he suffered no damage from the fight was prancing down the Route. Maybe winning against a cute sheep was an ego boost for the Tepig, and that just made him heal up. Tepig happily snorted out bits and pieces of ember as he skipped around.

"You sure do like that attack, don't ya?" Ryan smiled as she watched her teammate. The Tepig happily jumped in the air to agree with his owner. Suddenly, Ryan thought of something, "Why don't I name you Pyro!" Names for pokemon seemed essential now a days, since there seemed to be a lot of other people that had the same Pokemon. Tepig smiled as he shook his head. Ryan chuckled at her happy Tepig. "Yeah, Pyro is a good name for you."

"Ew."

Ryan turned around and saw someone standing behind her. She was a little shock when she realized who it was.

"Look what the Skitty dragged in, but wouldn't play with." A tall girl said, disgusted. She had many facial piercings, and her whole outfit was dark. She had a spiked necklace on and was holding a Pokeball.

"What do you want?" Ryan said, not making eye contact with the girl. She knew the girl.... she actually knew her very well. Rosaline was her name, and her and Ryan used to be best friends, until Ryan told her that she didn't want to hang out with her any more. Rosaline didn't like that idea, mainly because she didn't want Ryan to tell any of her secrets. So, she decided to make Ryan's like miserable. She made up incredibly bad rumors about Ryan, and made a website about her, telling the whole Internet all her secrets. Even though Ryan could have taken any of the other "cool" kids, Rosaline was the leader, and Rosaline was a very mean person.

"I want to battle you.' Rosaline smirked.

"Okay." Ryan couldn't say no, who knew what Rosaline would have done to her if she did.

"One on One." Rosaline added.

Ryan nodded and followed Rosaline to an open field. Rosaline stood on one side of the Field and Ryan stood on the other. The two both had a pokeball in their hand. "Even though your Tepig is shiny, doesn't mean he is strong." Ryan just shook her head. "I'm gonna win." Rosaline chuckled as she threw her ball in front of her. Her pokemon was revealed and it was also a shiny pokemon, Squirtle. The Squirtle was large and seemed strong... not to mention that Rosaline had the type advantage.

"Pyro, go!" Ryan called as she tossed her Tepig out of his pokeball and he landed on the field. Pyro stared at the Squirtle and the Squirtle stared back at Pyro.

"Squirtle tail whip!" Squirtle tossed himself around and threw his tail towards Pyro. Pyro bounced back and avoided the tail whip.

"Ember!" Ryan told Pyro. Pyro snorted and shot four small balls of fire towards the Squirtle.

Rosaline laughed. "Wow, really? Did you really just say that? Squirtle use bubble!" Squirtle inhaled and then exhaled a small amount of bubbles. They collided with the Ember causing a small 'sizzling' sound in the middle of the field.

"Tackle!" Rosaline called. Squirtle ran towards Pyro and shoved him to the ground. Pyro got up and decided to hit Squirtle with a tackle of his own. Squirtle skidded back a few steps, but did not fall down. Pyro kept shoving Squirtle. Squirtle began to laugh at the Tepig, who was trying his hardest to push the Squirtle down. Suddenly, something clicked in Pyro's head. His eyes turned bright red and he began to shoot a large amount of ember every where.

"Pyro! Stop!" Ryan tried calming her Tepig down, but Pyro just kept releasing a dangerous amount of flames. Squirtle retreated in to his shell and then Rosaline quickly recalled her Pokemon. "Call your Pokeball back! Stupid!" Rosaline said as she tried to avoid the chaotic embers.

Ryan quickly fumbled with her charm bracelet and finally unhooked the Pokeball. She enlarged it and tossed it at Pyro. "Pyro! Return!" She sighed as she recalled her Tepig.

Rosaline angrily walked up to Ryan and stared her in the eyes. "I just want to let you know, that I did not loose. Your insane Pokemon could have seriously hurt my Squirtle." She spat at Ryan, and then pushed her to the ground. Ryan just looked up at her from the ground and nodded. "Sorry." She frowned.

Rosaline looked at her in disgust. "You better be." She said as she walked away.

Ryan watched as Rosaline walked away from the now half burnt field. Once she left Ryan looked at her Pokeball. She was ashamed of what had happened. "Pyro? What happened?" She frowned as she looked at his Pokeball.

@ Iwasapony - Wow, intense! Pyro's got something like Ash's Chimchar had? And yes you have :3 You may post in Viridian City when you like.

- Pyro (Tepig) grew to level 7!
Also, I forgot to write this last time xD
- Ryan captured a Mareep! (female, lv 4)

Chapter 1 Route 1 Day 1 (part 3)

Rose and Tulip

"Oof... ow!" Rose complained as she crawled through the narrow space lined with jagged branches and thorns, probably chewed out of the hedge by a wild pokemon trying to get into the field.

"Bulllb..." Tulip murmured to himself as he tried to hold up the branches of the hedge with his bulb vines.

Rose disappeared and scampered off for a moment. She came rushing back excitedly and kneeled down to Tulip's eye level from the other side of the hedge.

"I got it!"

After Rose got back out of the field, she almost didn't give herself time to stand up (or brush any of the dirt, leaves and twigs off her rather fluffy long cardigan) before letting the expanded ball drop onto the ground. The taillow re-emerged from the light that poured out of it. It sat on the ground blinking, bemused amongst the silence. Rose and Tulip stared. Rose tried to give the taillow a friendly smile, but the baby bird harshly turned its head away from her.

"Hello, I'm Rose, your new trainer..." Rose introduced herself.

The taillow turned his whole body away from Rose, so that his back was turned to her. He stood rigid and defiant, with his beak pointed upwards.

"Bul sur saur, bulba-"

"SQUAWK!"

Well, that was Tulip shut up by a tiny bird.

"Okay, grumpy-pants..."

Nope. Rose's tone of childish humour hadn't had any effect on the little bird.

"... I think I'll call you something nice. How about Crescent? Because when you were flying, your wings looked like a crescent."

The taillow merely re-shuffled his wings as though he wasn't paying any attention.

"What do you think, Tulip?" Rose looked in Tulip's direction. Tulip responded with enthusiastic nodding. Rose smiled. "Right. Crescent it is. Let's go, Tulip, Crescent. We want to get to Vermilion before sun-down."

Rose and Tulip both started on their way down Route 1 before realising that Crescent wasn't following. Rose stopped and looked around to see the tiny little bird as a mere black shape on the path from where she was standing.

"Come on, Crescent! This way!"

When there was no response from him, Rose made her way over and tried to pick Crescent up in her hands. He suddenly burst into activity, flapping his wings rapidly off Rose's hand and sinking his beak into her flesh.

"Aaaah!" Rose gave a short high-pitched yelp before letting go of Crescent and letting him flutter down onto the dry earth. She inspected her wound as she thought about what to do. Her thumb was bleeding enough to start dribbling and she would want to get it cleaned as soon as possible.

"I'll have to put you in your pokeball." Rose tried not to get angry, keeping a patient tone of voice. "I don't want to do that, but we have to get moving."

When there was yet again no response, and Rose had waited long enough, she took Crescent's pokeball and reluctantly pulled him back inside.

"I guess it's just you and me for now, Tulip."

Rose and Tulip had been walking for much of the day. Rose's feet ached but Tulip trotted along happily, almost as energetic as when they first left. They had passed a lot of fields of different kinds, seen some interesting livestock (but never engaged in battle, since they were not wild) such as mareep and doduo, and had even come across some woody shaded areas. It had been a beautiful trip, but Rose had to stop for rest on a set of big old logs by a farm shed and next to someone's car.

"I'm... tired... Tulip!" Rose panted. "I wish I knew how far we had left."

The sun had started to set. The shadows were becoming longer, but there was still a reasonable amount of light left yet. Rose looked at her thumb, which had stopped bleeding. The blood on it had started to go sticky and a little crusty. As long as she didn't disturb the scab, it should be okay. But she had a bad habit of picking...

Rose heard the crunch of footsteps on the gravel. A woman approached from behind the shed, carrying a set of car keys. The woman was dressed in a pinafore over her normal clothes and seemed around middle-aged. Her hair was a reddish brown and tied back well off her face. When she saw Rose, she greeted her with a smile as she went to open her car door. Then, she stopped herself from opening the door and had a thought, before turning back to Rose.

"Young lady, you wouldn't happen to be a trainer by any chance?"

Rose nodded.

"I have a favour to ask, you look like a sweetheart. My doduo and dodrio have been terrorized lately by wild pokemon..."

"Poochyena?" Rose butted in.

"Wouldn't be anything else..." The farmer chuckled. She must have known that poochyena were renowned for their antics. "Just if you see them, give them a hard time, for me. Catch them, drive them away, whatever you can do. It would be much appreciated."

Rose's heart sunk at the thought of a night spent in the wilderness with no supplies. If she was going to be able to help this woman, she certainly wasn't going to have enough time to get to Viridian City.

"If there's something you would like in return..." The woman sensed that Rose was hesitant.

"Well... I'm not sure if I'll get to Viridian by night fall. I don't have anything to camp outside with."

"Oh, that's no problem." The woman waved her hand. Rose expected she was going to offer a ride in the car. "You can stay at my house for the night, my treat. As a thank-you."

Rose was finding this woman a little odd. Surely it would have been easier just to give her a lift. Though staying in a warm house was better than nothing, Rose wondered why the woman had offered that over the easier option.

"Oh, no not again!" The woman was suddenly distracted by something in the neighbouring field, past the trees she and Rose were under.

Rose noticed the hard of doduo moving quickly on the horizon if the hill. Two black shapes ran around them, as if they were rounding them up. The doduo fled in panic, only to run into another one of the black shapes and changing direction. As Rose ran closer, she realised that the doduo were forming into a tighter ball. Rose quickly turned to the farmer with her hands on the fence, before recieving a nod from the farmer. Now that she had been given permission, Rose awkwardly and clumsily clambered over the fence, before running in the direction of the frightened herd. The farmer handed her Tulip from the other side.

The two ran up the hill towards the distressed herd. The poochyena's attentions were diverted to Rose and Tulip charging towards them. They stopped a good distance apart from each other when they noticed Rose throwing a pokeball on the ground.

"Battle time, Crescent!" Rose said with cheer and childish excitement.

The swallow-like pokemon materialized out of the pokeball and started flying around, not daring to ground himself with two poochyena running wild on the grass.

"Tulip tackle the nearest poochyena! Crescent, peck attack the one that's further away!"

As he was told, Tulip started running in the enemy poochyena's direction, and slammed himself into it, sending it flying backwards before it rolled to a halt. It scrambled onto it's feet and gnashed its teeth before giving a powerful war howl as it raced back towards Tulip for a tackle of its own.

Meanwhile Crescent fluttered about over the head of his opponent, teasing it. He was unsure whether or not to risk being taken down by these relatively heavy wild pokemon. Finally due to the enemy poochyena's impatience Crescent saw an opportunity to quickly dive in and strike a sharp peck to the top of the head. The poochyena crashed to the ground from its mid-air jump, dazed by the attack to its head.

Tulip was growling nervously in order to raise its pity and lower its attack force against him. Although Tulip had just lowered his opponent's attack slightly , he was still hit hard by the tackle, and went skidding onto his side after having the wind knocked out of him. It was a critical hit. Stunned, Tulip took a few moments to rise back onto all four of her feet.

"Keep going, Tulip, just one more, trust me. I'll make sure it doesn't tackle you back this time!" Rose shouted a bit unnecessarily. Then she called over to Crescent, "Keep pecking it, good job, Crescent!"

After Tulip had delivered another tackle to the poochyena, which didn't seem to move the grey hyaena pokemon as effectively this time round, Rose immediately threw an empty pokeball at it. While Crescent was terrorizing the other poochyena in the background, the captured poochyena reluctantly shrunk down into the ball in a flash of light, before starting to fight against the contraption from within.
