ITT: Name a series (or three) that you think appeals to everyone; just truly an all-around masterpiece worthy of eternal praise. Some people like robots, some people like school romances, some people like... tennis, and some like magical worlds...

    What do you think?

I think Special A appeals to everyone, it has your school romance, fighting and stupidity all in one.

    Code Geass, maybe?
Sorry, I was looking at that description of yours and the only thing that came out was that.

    ...minus the tennis.

Death Note might appeal to a lot of people >.<
not sure but i know a lot who like it :D

    Anime:
Paranoia Agent, Ergo Proxy, Mnemosyne, Cowboy Bebop and Clannad.

    Manga:
Welcome to the NHK, Love Hina, Genshiken, Deathnote.

I'd have to Say . . .Sailor Moon. People may think I'm stupid for saying this, but it's a brilliant Anime/Manga and Has romances,Magical worlds, whatever!!! <3<3<3

    Ouran High School Host Club.

Only because I have not encountered a single person who has disliked this series. Even my hardcore mecha fanboy friends who loathe shoujo animes loved this show.

Don't let its for-young-kids appearance fool you. Dennō Coil is a high budget series with quality animation, background music and voice acting that I believe anyone and everyone will enjoy. Its cyber glasses world will appeal to science fiction fans and is reminiscent of video games so gamers will find that aspect appealing. It has plenty of drama - some of it dark, some of it lighthearted - thanks to a great cast of characters who grow over the course of the series. It has a touch of romance, a scoop of adventure and mystery, and great heaping piles of fun. I can't recommend it enough.

Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. Now, normally I wouldn't recommend a Gundam series as something that would appeal to just about anyone, but 0080 is a very special case. It manages to do in just 6 20-minute episodes what nearly every other Gundam series fails to do in 50: tell a story showing the horrors of war through the eyes of the people involved, on both sides. It's a very human tale, and probably depicts the most realistic characters of any series in the franchise. The focus isn't on the mecha; though they are they (and they are VERY cool), the characters themselves take the front stage. It's also a lot more subtle than you'd expect Gundam to be: no epic poses while firing rainbow-colored lasers in every possible direction, rivals screaming long-winded ideologies at each other, verbally assaulting the viewer with the shows themes. No, 0080 shows you its message, rather than tells, and actually manages to probably be the only piece of mecha animation that criticizes war without at the same time glorifying it. And it's very tragic. The ending is downright tear-jerking. And the dub is good, too!

Seriously. If any of you like a good war drama, watch 0080. The only way I could possibly imagine anybody not liking it is if they thought the ham-handed storytelling of Gundam SEED Destiny was good. Clearly, this is a show for a different audience.

I don't think there's one single anime/manga that will appeal to everyone. That just doesn't seem possible.

Although I do agree with a previous poster about Ouran High School Host Club about not having seen a single person who hasn't liked that anime/manga.

I can't think of any anime series that has what I would call "universal" appeal. The closest I've seen would probably be Cowboy Bebop. I've never seen anyone who didn't like Cowboy Bebop, and I've shown it to many non-anime fans.

As for the people who've said "Ouran" and "NHK," I would like to remind them that there is more to the world than anime fans. I mean, the fact that Ouran is male-harem means that it will automatically turn off a large number of people. Those shows are definitely more directed towards otaku as opposed to a wider audience.

M-M-Male harem? What is this I dont even.

    Male Harem is basically a single man surrounded by multiple woman, which the case for Ouran. Even though I like the show and there are loads of funny scenes, sometimes it does kind of disturb me how the women in the anime aren't really independent, saved for the ones from that all women boarding school (even they do too much fangirling towards the most popular girls there). I don't think it's sexism or anything, but still kinda disturb me. If you do know what Male Harem is though, then my mistake. ^^;

    ...Anyways. XD;

Yeah, like some people, don't think there's an anime that is of universal appeal. Different anime shows catered towards different people. Heck, my favorite animes are different than from the crowd here. For instance, everyone here seems to like Pandora Hearts (haven't watched it yet) and Code Geass (halfway through part one of the series)here while my favorite animes are Black Cat and Baccano! At this moment I can't think of any.

btw, I like to make threads and not reply to them.
    &Even though they aren't a series, I think Miyazaki's movies are good.

Well, The first thing that came to my mind was Skip Beat. For a shoujo anime/manga, it was such an epic.

I'd have to go with the whole Gundam sagas. Other than that, can't really think of anything else. :P

RomeoXJuliet - This is really good for people who like romance and fantasy, it's an incredibly interesting take on the story and it's one of my favorite anime ever.
Turn A Gundam - Probably the only Gundam series I'd consider truly complete in terms of story and character arcs. It has such a unique setting for a mech show, captivating characters, great animation and music. I think it's the last great Gundam produced since its airing.
Cyborg 009 (2001 remake) - Picked this because it's the best of the three Cyborg 009 anime. There's an array of main characters that makes it easy to find someone you like or can identify with and I've always loved stories involving people having their lives stolen from them and what they go through to cope with it. It's got its mix of action, drama, and 006 is such an amusing character to watch. The character designs are very retro, so it's the sort of thing that may put people off, but I've always loved Ishinomori's style. Also. The third ending is one of my favorite songs ever.

...but I've never really liked anything that falls into the "moe/tsundere/whateverthefadoftheseasonisforotaku" too much, so my tastes may be a little off. I really thought Ouran was a horrible show.

I don't like series that have all of those things. The only thing I can think of that has that many different elements is Lucky Star (sort of; none of them are developed elements), because it's parodying anime in general. I'm not big on Lucky Star anyway (I didn't dislike it, but I'm certainly not a fan).

I shouldn't even have to say this, because it's kind of obvious. Different people have different tastes. I tend to dislike anything that focuses on mechs (I think they look ridiculous and rob time and focus from the characters). However, that's obviously not the opinion of about fifty bajillion other people; mechs are arguably the most popular motif in anime. Clearly no one series is going to appeal to every single person.

If you're asking what my favorite series is, I would answer Cardcaptor Sakura. However, I guarantee there are people in this very forum -- insane though they may be -- that dislike the series just as much as I like it; it's their right to dislike a series, and as long as they don't start trashing it in front of me, I'm fine with that.

In short, you're unlikely to find a series that appeals to everyone; tastes just differ too much for that to happen.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is one of them. It's a romance, action, comedy, and pretty much everything you could ask for all rolled into one! <3

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan is a good one, too. It's a crazy comedy/romance anime. It's hilarious and I think it would appeal to the older anime fans.

xxxHoLic is *****in'. It's a creepy kind of anime, but it's also a comedy. There's a bit of romantic interest in it, but there's not really any romance. I love it. <3
