[Best Veteran March/May 2011] A new professor in town - Kanto Adventure PG13

"Sandshrew, defense curl!" Rini yelled, as the rat ran up.

"Shrew!" Sandshrew curled up into a tight ball, allowing the rat to bite into his hide. He winced. "Sand sandshrew!"

"Now, sand attack directly into her face, followed by a scratch!"

Sandshrew used his feet to kick up a lot of sand then turned both of his claws raised.

"This has got to be to most interesting battle I've had." Rini's eyes almost seemed to glow.

Rattata winced as it was blinded by sand and sliced with sharp claws. The posioning from Butterfree's wing scales wasn't helping either. Warren knew that he had to finish this up, fast. And Rattata did know one very speedy attack.
"Lets use Quick Attack!" he shouted, "When it uses Defense curl, flick it up into the air and use Bite to really hurt it!" Rattata nodded and leapt forwards, but Warren could see that she was starting to turn purple all over. Rini was one tough trainer and if he didn't come up with something really good, he could very easily lose this battle...

Rini thought back on how she had captured Sandshrew. That time she had thought she was going to lose, if Sandshrew could just use that move....

She was running out of options fast.

If she didn't act quickly she'd lose, and losing to someone that arrogent wasn't an option.

"it's all up to you Sandshrew. One last time.....Defense curl!"

Warren's Rattata slammed into her shrew knocking him into the air and back, she followed quickly after him prepared to delever the bite of his life.

Rini crossed her fingers as Sandshrew hit the tree, still rolled up in a ball and shot back towards the rat.

"Now!" she screamed.

The Forest Just Gets Deeper.

James kept on walking, the forest was getting darker and denser with every step, every now and then Vulpix snored which startled James everytime, the forest was treacherous, there were thorns everywhere. James had to step carefully to avoid treading on the thorns. James noticed a few rustling weeds, he then shut his eyes, a few seconds later he opened them, " I swear thoose weeds have moved ". James thought this was weird, he decided to run, but as he was running One of the weeds reached out and grabbed James, pulling him to the floor, these were no ordinary weeds, these were Pokemon.

" Bell Sprout Sprout ". Said One of the weedy Pokemon, there was about Five or Six of them and they were obviously a gang, James wondered what they were looking for. James scanned One of the Pokemon with his Pokedex.

Bellsprout
"image removed"
The flower Pokemon. The Pre-Evolved form of Weepinbell. It prefers hot and humid environments. It is quick at capturing prey with its vines.

James didn't know what to do, he had to think of something quick. He glanced at all the Bellsprouts he noticed One that was lot larger then the others, he twigged that this One was the leader. James thought to himself " If I defeat the leader Bellsprout then the others will leave me alone ". James' Vulpix was still fast asleep in his bag, he couldn't reach Nidoran's ball as his only free hand couldn't reach onto the other side of his belt, the only thing around him that he could reach was his Pokedex, James had another idea, he knew this might break the Pokedex but he could always get it fixed. James grabbed his Pokedex and lobbed it at his bag.

" Vulll Pixxx ". James had hit the bag and awoken Vulpix, she strolled out of the bag and when she noticed the Bellsprouts she growled viciously.

" Vulpix use Ember on the larger Bellsprout ". The Bellsprout suddenly slid out of the way and gestered for Vulpix to bring it on.

" Okay then Vulpix use use Roar to scare all the Bellsprouts ". Vulpix roared sending all but the leader Bellsprout running, this guy was obviously un-phased by everything.

" Bell Sprout Sprout ". Said the Bellsprout it's vines spread towards Vulpix and started to slap her round the face.

" Vulpix, hit the vine away with Tail Whip ". Vulpix's tail smashed againest the Vine sending it back to Bellsprout.

" Vul Vul Pix ". Vulpix breathed heavily she was only just regaining her breath.

" Alright now use Ember once again ". A ball of Fire flew out of Vulpix's mouth and towards the Bellsprout. Bellsprouts quick movements weren't quick enough this time, the fire set Bellsprout alight, the Bellsprout ran off into the forest and away from Vulpix.

" Vul Vul "? She looked at James obviously puzzled at the days events.

" Vulpix they must be guarding something, shall we take a look ". Vulpix looked at James and advanced foward willing to go exploring. They advanced foward until they came across something round, and White and Green on the floor, it was an egg!

" Wow, Vulpix this must be what they were guarding, I suppose it's a Bellsprout egg, but it could be something else ". James picked up the egg and placed it in his bag, he and Vulpix then carried on walking, knowing the adventure just got better.

@Bemertonboy - Hey, fancy seeing you here... welcome back :)

Nice post, lucky Vulpix woke up :)

Congratulations Vulpix grew to Level 10

Congratulations James found an Egg

Warren gasped as Sandshrew rebounded off the tree and smacked Rattata straight in the face. The small rat fell to the ground, defeated and unconscious. Unsurprisingly, Warren blamed everyone except himself.
"You are flipping useless!" he stormed, returning Rattata, "Did you not think to maybe move out of the way? And you!" He pointed at Rini and Sandshrew, "That was a damn dirty trick!" Grimacing, Warren dropped his hand to his side, clenching it into a fist. His next move could win or lose the match. Mankey would be too tired from fighting Mudkip and Bellsprout and Poliwag had type advantages...but which of them should he go with? Bellsprout had been more reliable, but Poliwag had overcome type advantages to defeat Guy's Electrike and that had been one tough Pokémon...

"Alright, let's go....POLIWAG!" he bellowed, as if simply shouting loudly could win him the battle. The small tadpole burst from its Pokeball eagerly, relishing the chance of a fight. Warren grinned. Perhaps he did still have a chance.
"Alright, Poliwag lets start with a Bubble, followed by a Water Gun to keep that Sandshrew on its toes, or more likely, on it's backside!"

"A dirty trick?" Rini looked horrified. "Are you accusing me of cheating?"

"Shrew sandshrew sand sand!" the sand mouse prosted as he lept this way and that, doing a few flips to avoid the water. He landed at Rini's feet breathing hard.

Rini was shaking in anger now. "Is that how it is? If you lose a battle it's always everyone else at fault and not yourself? Can you constantly blame every little mistake you make on your pokemon?"

"Shrew!" Sandshrew ran forward, claw raised.

"No return!" Rini held out his pokeball, but Sandshrew simply dodged the beam and kept going. "Sandshrew....why are....?"

"Sandshrew!" he lept straight through a watergun and over Poliwag, his claws raised and ready.

Rini gasped.

Poliwag simply leapt to the side as Sandshrew charged past, skidding to a stop moments before hittting Warren and throwing up a dustcloud that blinded him for a second. He coughed for a minute, waving his arms to try and clear the dust. It slowly settled, revealing a very angry looking Warren.
"This is exactly what I mean!" he shouted, "Trying to blind the opposing trainer! Its disgusting that you sink to such lows. Now, Poliwag, let's show them how to really battle! Use Water Gun, and don't stop firing until it hits!"

The sun shined brightly as Sam woke up. He recalled yesterday's events and felt a little giddy, even now. As he looked around, he spotted his 2 pokemon, Turtwig and Poochyena, laying in the sun. "Aw....they look so cute right now," Sam said happily. Turtwig was his starter and had gotten much stronger yesterday, and Poochyena had just been caught and was already stronger and had learned a new move. Sam was so proud of his pokemon. "Guys! Wake up! I need your help!" Sam said rather loudly. Immediatly, his pokemon were up and ready. "I need you to go and look for some berries so I can season breakfast," Sam said, striking a fire. They were actually gonna have cooked berries, but this was, in Sam's opinion, the best way to get them to find the biggest berries they could find. He was also going to add a little bit of ground pokefood to his pokemon's breakfast, so that they got nutrients.

After a few minutes, his pokemon came back carrying some huge berries. Sam immediatly started grilling them. His pokemon sat there, curious as to what Sam was doing. "I'm just cooking the berries to add a bit of warmth. While they cook, do you guys wanna practice a bit?" Sam asked. His pokemon eccstatically replied with what seemed to be a yes. Soon, Turtwig was dodging Poochyena's powerful tackle attack. Poochyena was quick, but Turtwig was a lot smarter. He knew how to dodge. Poochyena, however, had no problem with this attack pattern, as he knew eventually, Turtwig would get it. He had just landed about 3 strikes quickly as Turtwig quickly got up and hit him with a powerful attack of his own. Poochyena was stunned as Turtwig got in a second, more powerful blow. Sam was proud. his pokemon were getting so powerful and smart. "Oh! Breakfast is ready, guys! Let's eat!" Sam said, putting some cooked berries on a plate and the rest in 2 bowls, along with some pokefood.

After a great breakfast, Sam briefed his pokemon on the day's plans. They were going to finish up this route and reach Oldale Town before nightfall. They hadn't been going long when Sam noticed something. Upon closer inspection, Sam discovered it was a fishing pole. "Hm...wonder why this is here...?" Sam asked, curiously. When his pokemon shrugged, Sam put it in his backpack and kept going. He knew he'd have to return it, so he decided to keep an eye out for trainers. Soon after, though, Sam saw an even greater sight. A huge lake! "Whoa! Let's go check it out!" Sam said, running as his pokemon followed. As they got there, Sam noticed someone freaking out as he stomped around the lake. As Sam got closer, they kid said, "Hey you! Have you seen a fishing rod?" "Um...actually, is this it?" Sam asked, pulling out the rod he had found. "You thief! Let's teach this guy a lesson! Go! Gyrados!" the kid yelled. "Shoot. Doesn't look like we'll escape this one easily. Okay! Go! Both of you!" Sam said, having his own pokemon move in.

This wasn't good. Gyrados was perfectly safe in the water, since Sam had no ranged attacks. Unfortunatly, Sam wasn't sure of gyrados's attacks. He knew it probably knew thrash and bite, since it looked newly evolved. "Okay! Use thrash!" the boy said, confirming Sam's thoughts. Much to Sam's dismay, the Gyrados quickly flew out of the water and started thrashing about on the land. Luckily, his pokemon had dodged right in time. "Okay! Get a little ways away from it and use Withdraw and Howl!" Sam said, comanding his pokemon to use their useful support moves. "Grr! Don't mock me! Use thrash again!" the boy said. The Gyrados was obviously angry and attacked even quicker than before. Sam pokemon took a direct hit, underestimating it's power. "Hm...he doesn't use anything else, so that's definatly his only pokemon. He also uses only thrash, so that's probably it's only move. Okay! Tackle! Both of you! Turtwig, you go right and Poochyena, go left!" Sam commanded skillfully. His pokemon moved in perfect sinc, dodging out of it's range only to tackle it simeltaneously from each side. The Gyrados roared in pain. Sam knew it was getting tired. "Use thrash!" the kid yelled. Gyrados, however, hurt itself. "Idiot! It's confused. Finish it off! Tackle it one more time! This time, tackle it at the face!" Sam said. His pokemon, however, did something strange. As Turtwig ran up, he used tackle while Poochyena sat back and howled. Then, while Gyrados was stunned, Turtwig used withdraw while Poochyena jumped off it's back and his Gyrados square in the face. His pokemon were in perfect sync the whole time, too. Sam was impressed how far they'd come in so little time.

"Noooo! Gyrados!" The boy said, sad for his pokemon being knocked out. "Will you just listen to me? I said you could have your rod!" Sam said, handing the kid the rod. "Oh! I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to attack you. I really am sorry!" the kid said, crying now. "Its really okay. I probably would have done the same thing. I'm Sam, who're you?" Sam asked, putting out his hand. Taking Sam's hand, the kid said, "I'm Andy. Nice to meet you. You're really good, Sam! I couldn't believe how you battled!" "Thanks! You too, but how did you get a Gyrados?" Sam asked. "Oh! That's easy. The rod you just returned to me is called a Good Rod. It can catch gyradoses easily. It's only level 10, which is why it only knows thrash. I'm hoping to train it so that it can eventually learn Hyper Beam, though," Andy explained. "Cool! Sounds great! Maybe when you do, we can battle again!" Sam said. "Yeah! Oh! For returning my new Good Rod, you can have this!" Andy said, handing Sam a fishing rod. "Okay, but what is it?" Sam asked. "It's an Old Rod. It used to only catch magikarp, but recently, people have been catching other pokemon with one, too!" Andy said. "Cool! Thanks!" Sam said, "Well, I have to get going. See ya!" Sam said, leaving.

After another hour of walking, Sam had finally reached his destination. On top of the hill he was on, he saw oldale town. Beckoning for his pokemon to keep going, they raced towards Oldale town and his next adventure!

"Trying to blind the trainer?" Rini wondered. "Hey, that wasn't Sandshrew's fault. You just happened to be in the way."

Sandshrew was barely holding on. Severly weakened by the water, the sand mouse still refused to return despite calling him many times.

He was just too stuborn.

"Sandshrew buddy, I'm asking you to return."

Sandshrew defiantly shook his head no. He wanted to finish this...one way or the other.

His claws glowed a purplish tint and he redied a scratch and combind it with a poison sting. He then lept for Poliwag again with a battle cry. "SHREW!!"

"Sandshrew! Watch out!" Rini gasped, covering her eyes.

Poliwag grimaced as its tail was caught by Sandshrew's claws. In an attempt to dodge the attack, it had spun to the side, but it had exposed its fleshy and vulnerable tail in doing so. The wound wasn't serious, but with the poison in Sandshrew's claws now speeding through Poliwag's bloodstream, Warren knew he had to act quickly.
"Bubble attack on the floor!" he shouted on a sudden inspiration and Poliwag instantly complied. Clouds of dust and sand erupted wherever they struck and turned the dry ground into squelchy mud. Within seconds, the entire field of battle was a marsh - the perfect environment for a tadpole! Not only that, but with the dust in the air, nobody could see anybody else. This next move would depend entirely on luck.
"Alright, now use Water Gun again! Spray it in wide arcs, to cover as much of the battlefield as possible!" Poliwag grinned, then tilted its head back slightly and fired a powerful jet of water into the dust cloud, hoping to hit the Sandshrew lurking within...

"Sandshrew!" Rini yelled as her view was obstructed.

There was the sound of something squishing through mud, and Sandshrew's pained cry.

"Sandshrew! Get out of there!"

Suddenly there were countless mud clumps thrown into the air as Sandshrew turned his sand attack into a mud attack.

When the smoke cleared Sandshrew was standing in a deep trench and various mud balls of different shapes and sizes were raining down on Poliwag.

Poliwag squealed as the mud rained down on it, covering its feet. Desperately, it tried to tug them free, but to no avail. Warren panicked, but quickly calmed down as memories of his recent battle with Guy came back to him.
"Use Water Gun to push yourself out - aim it at the floor!"he ordered and Poliwag sighed inrelief, firing a powerful jet of water into the ground. The small tadpole was flung high into the air, heading towards Sandshrew. Warren grinned as he realised that he could use this to his advantage.
"Keep rolling and keep using Water Gun!" he shouted and Poliwag obeyed, flying forwards in a watery imitation of Flame Wheel, heading straight for Sandshrew...

Sandshrew breathing heavily was competly spent, not even able to dodge as Poliwag sped towards him.

"Ahh! No!" Rini ran towards her pokemon.

Sandshrew sipmly held out his paws catching Poliwag and taking the hit at the same time. The two went rolling, Sandshrew using scratch over and over as he tried to keep a hold on the water type. A determined look was on his face as he fought againt the darkness that was close to claiming him.

"Sandshrew...." Rini whispered as she watched this. "Is he going this far for me?" she wondered.

With a huge effort, Poliwag wrenched itself away from Sandshrew. Completely worn out, the two adversaries simply lay there in the mud, panting. Grunting from the effort, Poliwag slowly pulled itself out of the swamp and stood, its body lacerated by Sandshrew's sharp claws. It took a step towards Sandshrew, but before it could do anything-
"Return, Poliwag." Warren held out his Pokeball to recall the surprised Pokémon. He glanced over to Rini.
"Poliwag, Rattata and Beedrill need the Pokémon centre. I'd better get going" without saying anything more, Warren turned on his heel and marched off sharply in the direction of Saffron City. He might have looked calm, but thoughts were raging inside his head.

Are you going soft boy? Of course not. I'm Warren Simmons. I don't do soft. Then why did you recall Poliwag? I...I might need it for the next battle. Liar. You felt pity for it. You wanted to stop it from getting hurt. Rubbish. Why should I care how it feels? It's just an animal. You might say that, but you don't feel it. Not any more...

Warren came to a standstill in the middle of the path, looking down at the small Pokeballs in his hand. In there lived several amazing beings. What made them amazing wasn't that they could had breathe poisonous powders or fire water from there mouths. It wasn't that they knew Karate; it wasn't that they had huge teeth; it wasn't even that they had giant stingers.

What made these creatures special was that they had made Warren feel affection.

OOC: ooh, Warren's getting all angsty :P Hmmm... I think I implied that he basically forfeited the battle. If not, that was the point.

Emilee wandered around the city not sure where to go. "I wonder where the gym is?" just then she bumped into a large steel door. "Ouch." she said and looked up. "Oh well that was convienient." she found herself right outside the viridian gym. "Hmm the doors seem to be locked though." she turned and noticed an old man lying next to the doors. "Hey um do you know what happened to the gym leader?" The old man ddid not look up he did not even flinch. "Excuse me old man?" he stilll did not move. Emilee was getting a bit frustrated. "Gee I came all this way...I am not going to be beaten from the start. She went over to the old man and shook him awake. "Hey!" she said loud. Fianlly the man opened his eyes. "Wah? Waht do you want? Dont you know its bad luck to wake a man while sleeping?"(My favorite line from PIRATES) "Oh sorry..um do you know what happened to the gym leader here?" The old man sat up rolling his eyes back thinking. "Hmm...oh yeah I am out of saki..." Emilee looked at him bewildered "Old man!" she shouted. He looked at her annoyed. "What? You dont need to yell young one I am not that old." she rolleed her eyes in annyance. "Old man please just answere the question." "Ah yes the question...what was it again?" emilee stomped her foot angrily she was not getting anywhere with this guy. "Ugh nevermind I guess I will just wait." She sat down next to the old man who was snoozing again.
