[Best Veteran March/May 2011] A new professor in town - Kanto Adventure PG13

Vs. Lauren II

"Use Scratch!" Kliff called out. Pan bounded over to Mawile, claws scratching the ground as he did so.

"Fake Tears!" Mawile sniffed, then suddenly began to sob at Lauren's command. Pan slowed down, eventually stopping in front of Mawile. The confused shrew turned to his trainer, scratching his head as if trying to figure something out.

"Shrew?"

He looked at Mawile again, unsure what to do, Lauren broke the silence,

"Bite!" Before Kliff knew it, Pan was struggling, being hoisted into the air by Mawiles huge jaws. Kliff could feel his fists clench - Pan was as good as trapped, but how could he break free?

"What's the matter Kliff?" Lauren asked aloud, "I thought you'd have some sort of solution for a mere Bite attack."

Ignoring the taunts, Kliff noticed that Pan's tail was relitavely close to the ground,

"Try and use your tail for a Sand-Attack!" he shouted. Pan's tail began to swish back and forward, eventually gaining decent speed, and the shrew kicked up some sand into Mawile's face. The steel type began frantically wiping its face, releasing its grip on Pan while doing so.

"Now's your chance! Scratch!" Kliff ordered. Pan swung its arm round, delivering a blow to the back of Mawile. The steel type was simply nudged forward at the normal type attack.

Kliff knew this would take a while, "Don't let up - keep Scratching!"

"Not so fast there Kliff: use Astonish!" Lauren commanded. Before Pan could deal another hit, the large jaws of Mawile snapped open and screeched right infront of him. The shrew jumped in fright and lost its footing.

"Bite it!" The jaws suddenly reached out for the Sandshrew,

"Sand Attack!" As Pan fell backwards, he kicked off of the ground, sending a heap of sand into the mouth. The large jaws began coughing and spluttering, much to the dismay of both Lauren and Mawile,

"Start Scratching!" Kliff shouted. Pan leapt forward, slashing Mawile's jaws. The momentum of the swinging jaws caused Mawile's whole body to rotate, until the small pale coloured creature was facing Pan. Pan delivered a second swipe, right across the steel type's face, sending it head first into the dirt.

"How do you like my 'solution' so far Lauren?" Kliff asked his opponent with a hint of bragging in his tone. Lauren sighed,

"You think it's gonna be that easy?" As she spoke, Mawile got to her feet, "Why don't we show you our ViceGrip!"

As soon as she finished, Mawile had Pan in its jaws once more. The shrew was trying its best to keep the mouth open, pushing against the crushing force with its hands and feet. However the jaws were closing, slowly but surely. Kliff quickly thought of something,

"Defense Curl!" Pan coiled up into a ball, and the steel jaws snapped shut. Lauren gasped as she realised Pan was now inside Mawile's larger mouth. Mawile too wore a confused expression - unsure as to why Kliff let what just happened, well, happen.

"Pan!" Kliff yelled, hoping the Sandshrew would hear him from inside, "Poison Sting!"

There was a pause, and Lauren looked at Kliff, bemused, "Umm, you do know Poison type moves don't affe--"

"Wiiiiiiille!!!" Mawile cut her off with a loud squeal, face filling up with pain. She hastily spat Pan back out, before the jaws shook madly from side to side.

"Pan just used Poison Sting on that thing's tongue," Kliff explained, "Surely that's bound to hurt."

"Hmff," Lauren moaned, "Well, no matter. Use Astonish!" Mawile's jaws once again snapped open and screeched, leaving Pan momentarily frozen in shock,

"Now Bite and toss it!" the jaws reached out and clamped shut on Pan's arm, before lifting the shrew upwards,

"Poison Sting!" Kliff shouted. Pan could be seen moving his arm about, before the jaws yelped again, releasing him.

"Scratch!" As soon as Pan landed, he kicked off, hitting Mawile in the back of the head with another Scratch attack. The steel type moaned in discomfort,

"It's tail!" Lauren yelled, "Throw it!" The jaws of mawile reached down and grabbed Pan's tail. Left helpless, the shrew was thrown to the side, crashing into the rockface Kliff and Lauren had just traveled down.

"Now finish it!" Lauren commanded, "ViceGrip!" Mawile ran in for Pan, bringing its jaws forwards, agape and ready to bite down.

"Poison Sting while its mouth's open!" Kliff shouted. Pan picked himself up from the rubble just in time to see the massive jaws coming for him. In self-protection, he thrust both arms forward, purple claws aiming for the vulnerable tongue.

Kliff couldn't help but feel sorry for the thing that happened to land inbetween the two pokemon.

Mawile had clamped down on a small, grey creature. Pan had stuck the same creature with its Poison Sting. The thing was frozen, eyes wide in sudden pain.

"Sp-spoink..."

"No way..." Lauren gasped.

The pink sphere on the creature's head began to glow, and a pink wave of energy suddenly burst from it, striking Pan and Mawile. Both pokemon fell backwards, knocked out by the mystery pokemon.

"Looks like it's a draw..." Kliff said, staring at the grey springy thing. His pokedex beeped,

"That attack was Psywave - one of Spoink's earlier moves."

"So it's a Spoink?" Kliff said to himself, recalling Pan to his pokeball. Lauren did the same with Mawile, however she quickly sent out a Lombre.

"I want it!" she said to Kliff, before the Spoink bounced off into the grass, detecting Lauren's intentions, "I'll meet you in Lavaridge Town!" With that, she ran off in pursuit of the springy pig.

"Fine by me," Kliff said as he turned round and followed the path. He would reach Lavaridge soon.

[OOC: How anti-climatic: a Spoink caused a draw xD]

Recieving Shroomish!

Dune glanced at the clock once more before taking another gulp of his giant energy drink. The can was near empty and would soon end up in the pile of previously drained drinks.

"Just another hour to wait before I..."

His thinking out loud had been interrupted by a large yawn. Lynch had been use to pulling all nighters, but his nerves had caused this time to be Hell on Earth.

"Ugh, why didn't I just catch some z's? Sometimes I don't even understand myself..."

Rising from the bean bag chair that was facing directly before his television, Dune tossed his controller and sauntered to his bathroom.

Flicking on the light, he stared directly into a cracked mirror. There were clothes all over the place along with towels, hair care products, hats, a broken skateboard and shards of glass from the broken mirror. His reflection revealed messy white bangs tipped with black dye that were pushed to the right side of his face. His hat was on the verge of falling off of the back of his head and his black eyes looked worn with sleep.

"This isn't your best look, buddy."

He murmured to himself, ruffled his hair and gripped a toothbrush before squirting a dab of toothpaste on it. Soon, a foam which looked like rabies consumed his chin and mouth. Spitting it out and inhaling a palmfull of water, Dune smiled brightly to himself.

"That's better."

Grabbing a black muscle shirt from the stack of clothes resting on his bathroom floor and pulling it over his head, Lynch fixed his hat, flicked off the video game he'd been no lifeing all night, and trudged down the stairs. His mother was propped up on the couch watching some sappy soap opera. Dune proceeded to pulling open the fridge and snatching out an apple.

"Hey, uh, mom."

He was now sinking his teeth into "breakfast" when his mother replied with a hmm?

"I'm going to go get a Pokémon today, is that chill?"

"Yep"

She was always pretty cool with allowing her boy to do whatever he wanted. She was a single parent and felt guilt for everything Lynch had to do for them. When she lost her job and had to lean on Dune's income to pay the bills, she broke down. His mother was now doing fine with a steady paying job, he didn't feel bad at all for requesting to leave now.

"Kay, well I am heading out now. I'll call you when I can, alright? Love ya, mom."

The screen door slammed and the wheels of a rolling skateboard, once loud, vanished into the distance.

"Looks like I am going to be pretty early..."

He ollied off of some ledges and manualed to the doors of the lab. With no idea of what he'd encounter, the lean boy decided to escape his eager thoughts through tricking.

---

After about another half hour, the attractive pink haired professor stepped out from the building.

"My goodness!"

She gasped and slowly approached the skating boy. He wasn't too sure of whether she was shocked by his grungy appearance or that she was stunned he was waiting out here so early.

"It looks as though you're eager to obtain your Pokémon and go about your Pokémon journey, young man."

He kicked the tail of his board and hoisted it to under his arm before reaching out to shake Maple's hand.

"Yeah, pretty much. What do you have, I'm chill with anything."

She returned the handshake but her expression wilted.

"Well... We've had some security issues as of late. Our stock is limited, but there is one... There is an issue though. She'd been abandoned by her previous trainer and has trust issues. She may night obey you."

"Well I am up for a challenge, miss. You can't glide through life without problems, it's how we grow and learn."

She still looked skeptical, but she nodded and handed Lynch a red and white capsule. It had a button in the middle of black bands.

"Here, its name is Shroomish and is a grass type. You'll need to catch a ferry to the new region. Also take these."

Dune took the ball along with five other empty ones and what looked to be a miniature red laptop.

"I'm sure you're familiar with Pokéballs and a Pokédex. Run along now, and good luck."

Maple turned and left Dune Lynch standing alone. She had to prepare herself for other trainers, it was difficult since Magma and Aqua had stolen many Pokémon. Smirking, he dropped the board to the ground and rode off in the direction where Prof. Maple had pointed.

---

He could smell the ocean, the wind was refreshing as it carried the salt from the waters and cooled the sun's heat. At first, the male didn't know what to look for or where he was headed. Skating around, avoiding the sand, he looked for a boat; the problem was that there were multiple boats in the area.

Just when he'd grown tired and thought about giving up, he heard a loud boom of a man's voice.

"Those who have new Pokémon from Professor Maple, board here!"

Turning to look in his direction, Dune noticed a muscular bald man and what appeared to be a seagull ringing a bell and hollering out.

"That's my ride!"

Lynch thought and walked over to Mr. Briney with his board under his arm.

"Hi. I am a new trainer from Maple's lab."

Laughing, the bald man held out a large palm, Lynch looked perplexed.

"Your ID, sir."

"Oh, yeah, of course."

Lynch juggled his Pokéballs and skateboard as he handed over his new Pokédex. After a while, the white-haired boy boarded.

---

"I don't know where we're going, or how long it'll take to get there... But we need time to know each other. So come out, Shroom."

A white light formed the shape of a mushroom about a foot tall. It was tan on top, lime green on bottom. On the tan area, like freckles, were spots of the same color as her legs. It lacked arms and looked extremely annoyed.

"Sh... Urrr..."

She rammed into Lynch's leg in an attempt to push him over. Squirming back and forth, without success, Shroomish grumbled. With a speed that baffled Dune, the mushroom Pokémon was gone.

((Ooc: Sorry if it's too short.))

Warren stared at the Numel. Numel stared at Useless. Useless stared at an interestingly shaped cloud until Warren slapped the topmost of it's the green spheres. Then it just made puppy eyes at him. Warren sighed, then pointed at Numel.

"Evil fire thing. Remember? Murder him to death until he dies of death. In a deadly fashion." Useless, completely ignoring Warren, decided instead to charge at Numel, letting loose a battle cry, then falling over. Numel took the opportunity to breathe flames on the small bonsai tree until he was glowing red hot. Needless to say, this provided plenty of motivation for the Bonsly to get up, screaming madly and run down the mountain, disappearing into a low-lying cloud. So it did.

Warren stared back at the Numel, wondering if it would give him time to release another Pokémon. When it spat fire at his face, forcing him to dive to the ground, covering his face in what he sincerely hoped was mud, he figured that was a no. Scrambling for his belt, he grabbed the nearest Pokéball and threw it. With a flash of light, out came Violet, looking just as stroppy as usual. Warren took one look at her face. Not good.

"You feel like battling?" Violet promptly turned around and began to walk off down the mountain. Warren sighed. Fine. Time to try again.

"Cannonball, you're up next!" With a substantially bigger flash, the rotund whale appeared. Then, it promptly disappeared as it rolled down the mountain helplessly, its short flippers waving in desperation. Warren stood, flabbergasted, as Numel sniggered. He could just guess what it was thinking. Never mind the battle, he'd just watch as Warren defeated his own team. But it wouldn't happen like that. Okay, so he'd just made three pretty big screw-ups. But not all of his Pokémon were failures. He still had two left.

"Silver, come on out!" This Pokéball burst open, revealing Silver. It was lying on the floor and snoring. Warren paused, then took in a deep breath.

"WAKE UP YOU STUPID LITTLE RUNT WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ASLEEP I HAVEN'T HAD ANY SLEEP AND IF YOU KEEP SLEEPING WE'LL BOTH GET SET ON FIRE YOU WERE ONLY MY FOURTH CHOICE ANYWAY YOU DAMN LAZY DAMN ASS DAMN HOLE DAMN DAMN- " Warren's rant was cut short when Silver stood up, calmly bit him in the shin, then began to wander off after Violet, who was barely visible in the distance.

"Fine. Abandon me along with the other. I don't need you! I STILL HAVE CUDDLES!" Angrily throwing the fifth and final ball, Warren let out a sigh of relief as the bear emerged, claws unsheathed. The psychotic bear could always be counted on to be ready to fight, at least. Numel released another jet of fire but Cuddles jumped over the lazy attack and slashed at Numel's back as it skidded past.

"Lick it!" Cuddles began to dribble all over the camel's back as it slapped it repeatedly with its tongue. Warren grinned as the saliva splashed into the hole on its back with an audible hiss. The magma was cooling.

"Now, on its back! Fake Tears!" The bear jumped onto its back, digging its claws in perhaps a little more than necessary. Numel staggered and moaned softly as Cuddles began to pump tears right into its magma hole, causing a spout of steam to rise from it. Eventually, it began to dissipate and Cuddles hopped down. Numel stayed where it was, glaring at cuddles but unable to move. It had been frozen solid by the solidified magma - now just a lump of rock - in its tank. Cuddles finished it with a two fisted Scratch before happily returning to its ball. Warren smiled weakly. At least that was dealt with.

Stretching, Warren began to climb out of the small dip, looking down the mountain. The clouds were beginning to clear and at the foot, he could make out a collection of buildings - Lavaridge Town. But there was no sign of his Pokémon. Not even Wailmer, who should have been sticking out like a sore thumb.

Weird.

@Zeph - A draw? Guess we'll have to wait a little longer to see who is the better trainer out of those two!

Congratulations Sandshrew (Pan) grew to Level 14 and learned Rapid Spin

@Nukoe - The post itself is fine, but I thought that you were going to jump in at the current point of the RP? If it's just an introduction post ignore this.

@ILAYM - That was literally amazing. I was laughing the entire way through that post, so thankyou for perking up my morning. :) Maybe we were wrong in assuming Magma or Aqua stole Warren's pokemon... he seems perfectly capable of losing them all on his own :P

Congratulations Teddiursa (Cuddles) grew to Level 13

((Ooc: Of course, just trying to get my footing right now. Read your prompt and thought you wanted newbies to enter by doing this. I'll fix it, don't you worry. (:))

Lynch was about to follow after the small Pokémon, but his legs felt like bricks now. He could feel his vision glossing over and the world around him became a daze.

"Woah..."

Dune held the back of his hand out in front of him. It somehow felt like it was no longer attached to his body, he could control it, but his brain didn't seem to register it belonging to him visually. He looked up towards the sky, though couldn't recall moving his neck and heard a loud slamming noise.

"BOOM!"

It sounded through the tiny ship and caused Mr. Briney to come flying over. The last thing the boy could recall was being hauled into a small room and muttering a where's my Shrooms?

---

When Dune finally came to, he found his surroundings to be that of a plush, medically furnished room. He jolted up, questions flooding his head, but fell back down as he felt extremely dizzy. A note glided off of his chest and to the tile floor.

"Huh?"

Reaching down to pick it up, he scanned it over, it read: 'Found your Pokémon, try to take more care of it. After calling Professor Maple, was given orders to bring you to Mauville City. You owe me, kid. -Briney'

"Right, my Shrooms! Where could she have gotten!? ... I know mom said I was irresponsible, but jeez, to lose my first Pokémon on the first day. ****..."

Again, the young adult sprang to his feet, this time ignoring the nauseating spin that nearly bowled him back over. He dashed to a cracked door before smacking into a female in doctor's clothing. She had bright pink pig tails, about the same shade as the professor's hair was, except in loops. Had Dune not reacted and grabbed her hand after their bumb, she would have fallen back and landed on her behind. She granted him a hard, scolding expression before easing up and allowing a smile.

"You must be Dune Lynch, right?"

"Uh, yes ma'am, that's me... But I really have to get going. I lost my Sh--"

"You just calm down now young man!"

She handed him a familiar Pokéball and nodded.

"Try not to touch it. You suffered from an effect that Shroomish carries called 'Effect Spore'. Lucky for you, you didn't become paralyzed or poisoned, instead you were just put to sleep."

After a small giggle, she turned to walk back to the entrance room. Keeping a nice distance after her, Lynch followed.

"So, uh... How much do I owe you?"

"Treatment and board are free here at the Pokémon Center. We hope to see you again, and please don't forget your things."

After she gave a short gesture over at a row of lockers on the wall leading to the recovery room, the boy went to grab a Pokédex, five Pokéballs, his hat, a skateboard and... What? A Backpack? Another note...
'Dune, picked up a backpack while thrift shopping. It even has a strap to hold your board, how convenient! Love you, have fun! -Mom'

She was right, it was convenient. Sliding his board through the strap and placing the five empty balls in one of the drink holders, Dune was ready to go. He nodded thanks to Joy and then found himself outside, in a city.

---

Being without a penny, Dune decided to leave the exploring for later, passing large buildings. Gym: Fancy a battle? 'No, my Pokémon wont stand in my presence, let alone fight for me.' PokéMart: Potions, PokéBalls, Antidote, Repel! Prepare yourself! 'I think I'm good for now, thanks.' Dune smirked at his side comments. 'Oh, here's another sign' Route 111: Beware of Pokémon in tall grass!

Shrugging that last one-off, Lynch proceeded to enter the Route of one eleven. It seemed to stretch a mile, he couldn't see anything but grass, trees and a path.

"Ugh, well I guess this is what I wanted, right?"

He grabbed out his board to make the trip less boring and began to ride down. More seagull-like Pokémon, like the one Mr. Briney had, were flying overhead. They seemed to be eyeing Lynch to see if he had any scraps of food lying about. He didn't and so long as they left him alone, he felt fine.

After about an hour of straight riding (Alright, fine, a few shove-its along the way) the white-haired male found a fork in the road. One way looked crisp and inviting, the other, a mess of sand storms. The choice was obvious -- but as he turned to leave, he heard a harsh voice.

"Shrew!"

---

Apparently the Pokemon had come from out of the whipping sand. 'How?' Grabbing for his Pokédex, flipping it open and aiming it at the mouse Pokémon, Dexter began burping out information.

"SANDSHREW's body is configured to absorb water without waste, enabling it to survive in an arid desert. This POKéMON curls up to protect itself from enemies. It prefers dry, sandy places because it uses the sand to protect itself when threatened."

As soon as the statement ended, and Dune looked up from the screen, he noticed the sand rodent curled in a ball. It was headed the trainer's way at a decent velocity.

"****..."

He turned and skated the other way, towards Route 112. Though, feeling foolish now for not attempting to battle, Dune called out for Shroomish just when the Sandshrew popped out of the ball to look for its opponent.

"... Sh... Room -.-"

It glared at Dune and turned to bash itself against his leg once again. Luckily, after learning from the past, Lynch dodged the attempt.

"Come on, Shrooms... Don't be like that, I'm not the one who abandoned you!."

He pleaded the grass Pokemon, but it seemed to have none of it. As it turned to aim another tackle at its new trainer, it became hindered. The Sandshrew had raked its claws into the little mushroom's back. Both of the combatting Pokemon called out in pain.

The ground Pokemon stumbled around, its arms locked in scratch position. The mushroom didn't seem very remorseful that it had paralyzed the enemy, with tears welling up in those little beady pools called eyes, Shrooms spun around and seemed now to be sucking essence from Sandshrew.

Baffled and not knowing what to do, Dune called out randomly,

"Tackle it!"

Puffing up, the vegetation Pokemon turned to again ram the skater kid. 'Well that was a bad idea...' Avoiding his Pokemon, Dune's eyes returned up to search for the Sandshrew -- it was gone.

When he looked back down, he'd guessed that Shrooms must have seen its moment to escape; it was hauling ass down the route. After several attempts, and seeing that it wouldn't return into its Pokeball, the two played a 'happy' game of cat and mouse down to Route 112.

((Ooc: Sorry for the double posting, I am just very impatient to catch up with the others in the story...))

When Dune finally managed to catch up with his Pokémon, he was panting, out of breath. Had his Pokémon not looked so stunned and in awe, he would have fallen over then and there. It perplexed him, how distracted this quick Pokémon had become, what exactly was she so fixated on? The new trainer was skeptical about taking his eyes off of the little mushroom, but the curiosity was killing him, and then like an unscratched itch Dune Addie Lynch looked up.

There it was, the thing that his 'companion' gaped in awe and confusion over, a volcanic looking mountain. It wasn't too far away, in fact just continuing down this path would bring the 'team' to cable cars to transport them up. Shrooms began to tremble as she felt the heat of the monstrous volcano waft over her little grass body.

"Mishroom, sh?"

Her words were cut off by chattering; though she didn't own teeth of her own, her shaking literally caused her larynx to twitch. This was when Lynch felt a ping in his chest, he couldn't help but to walk up to Shroomish and try to comfort her. It hurt him, to see something that seemed so full of malice and utter despise to look so weakened by the idea of fire.

"We can do this, Shrooms. You just have to trust me."

Realizing that the boy was at her side, the mushroom attempted a low growl, it transformed into a yip of fright which startled her. Holding his hand out, the hindered trainer attempted something of a peace-offering to the tan and green creature. Had he not felt the need to keep a strong profile, he knew his eyes would flood with tears in any instant.

She didn't know what to make of this, attempting to **** her body to the side, the delicate grass type jumped into Dune's arms. He flinched, bracing himself for a Human-based status ailment -- surprisingly to him, he felt normal. She was shaking so hard, and he couldn't decipher whether or not it was due to her fear and despise for him, Mount. Chimney or both combined. The only sure thing that Dune could understand that was set in stone would be that he would do anything in his power to protect and cater to this being.

Clutching her into his powerful arms, yet allowing a safe distance between him and the poisoning Poké, Dune pressed forward -- Towards Mount. Chimney. Shrooms' eyes were locked onto the preppy profiled owner; they were still cold, but held an essence of behind her hard exterior. With every step her breathing increased, Lynch wondered if he should return her to her ball for the duration of this current challenge. Knowing that he'd need to call her out if a wild Pokémon were to appear, he decided against it. She needed to be exposed to this environment and conquer her fears -- she was much like him in that aspect.

After making it about half way to the volcanic mountain, Dune had noticed that the overly stressed Shroomish had fallen to sleep. This sparked an involuntary smile; there wasn't a doubt in his mind that he was slowly earning her trust.

"I wont let you down, Shrooms. I swear I wont. You'll see, we can make it together -- sure, I may be new to this and all, but one thing is for sure I am loyal to those who need me. Just put a little faith in me as I have you, I wont allow you to hurt. Promise."

He shifted her to his left arm so that he could pet her face with his right hand. It was unusual, they hadn't encountered any Pokémon other than the Sandshrew back near the desert. Lynch decided it'd be best if he kept a look out for the unexpected.

As a dreamer, it was inevitable that his thoughts fogged over his vision -- he was now on auto-pilot. 'She's strong, I was lucky to have received her.' Lynch's mind played like a movie, he witnessed her rebound to the scratch by the sand rodent. Not only had she paralyzed him, but she also somehow managed to drain him with one green orb. 'Grass type are amazing...'

---

He was a three-fourths done with the walk to the base of Mt. Chimney before feeling his Pokémon twitch in his arms. She popped up and leapt out from his grasp in less than a second. Again, Dune was lost by her speed. 'Did she wake only to realize her fears are gone now and its back to hate mode?' No, it wasn't that, she was now behind him and sneering.

Turning around, Shrooms' 'partner' witnessed that most likely ever since he stopped to console Shroomish, a Zigzagoon had been shadowing him. Was it an act of defense that caused the mushroom to express hostility to the racoon or was it merely her high anxiety in his terrain? Something like this could remain only in question form. BING! The Pokédex started to mumble so Dune pulled it out.

*pokemonelite2000 image removed*
"Zigzagoon, Normal Type: ZIGZAGOON restlessly wanders everywhere at all times. This POKéMON does so because it is very curious. It becomes interested in anything it happens to see."

'So that must be why it has been following me.' Dune flipped closed Dexter and stuffed him back into a deep pocket of his pants. The Zigzagoon, who didn't seem very hostile, was wagging its tail at the stern looking Shroomish. Did it want to play?

"Ok, Shrooms - if you want to then let's show this one how we play."

The Shroomish was way ahead of its trainer; it had already began to run at the Zigzagoon. With a sharper speed than the grass Pokémon, the normal type had leapt out of danger and was now barking yelping in Shroomish's direction. It dashed at Shrooms with its skull forward; the mushroom could not get out of the way completely. Zigzagoon had nicked Shrooms in the side before slamming into a tree.

In anger, the grass type released another green orb that latched onto the foe raccoon. The bubble returned to Shroomish and its wound cleared up. The Zigzagoon, who was shaking its head in a daze from smacking into a tree, whimpered as its life source was stolen from him. He managed to regain his balance and ran again at Shrooms.

"Watch out!"

The Shroomish turned just in time to run at the same pace at Zigzagoon. The two collided, it caused a loud slapping noise when their bodies struck one another. Dune winced at seeing Shrooms fall to the ground alongside the fainted normal type. She was badly injured by that small blow but still she'd managed to total a foe much larger than herself. The Zigzagoon growled out before getting back to its feet and vanishing into a large bush.

She'd lost the battle but won the war -- for a Pokémon as young and unexperienced as herself to commit that much damage onto a stronger rival, well that was incredible in Dune's eyes. He walked over before kneeling to the dirt path and lifting his battered friend from the soil.

"You did great, now rest up. We're almost to the carts."

Stroking her tiny cheek, Lynch rose and continued his travel to the base of Mount. Chimney.

Setting foot on rocky ground

As David got off the cable car, he got blinded by the sun. He put his hand above his eyebrows and looked around the area. The scenery had certainly changed , he wasn't in Kansas anymore. Being almost at the top of the mountain he could see most of the rocky formation. He was surrounded by rocks , a tree or a bush appearing every now and then . Looking around, his eyes were caught by the straight path leading to the bottom of the mountain and his next destination. The thing is that it was a long one and he knew that he wouldn't reach the city very soon , but as soon as he would start walking the sooner he would get to Lavaridge town .

About two hours passed since he got off the cable cart and he was already far away from it , the cable cart was just like a tiny pea from where he had gotten until now. He decided to let Ralts out so he wouldn't get bored walking alone , he was already tired of seeing: a rock , a rock , two rocks, a tree, another rock , a bush , rocks , rocks, a bush ………….wait it's just a rock. He took his pokeball and let the little being outside. Ralts was happy to get out of his pokeball, it prefererd walking to staying in his pokeball any day of the week. David knows that well , but it had to let it rest a bit because he knew that the journey to Lavaridge town was a bit rough and long.

They came across a little spring so they stopped to drink some fresh cold water. As they were enjoying the crystal glass water that was refreshing their mouths , David felt a hand on his shoulder. He got startled and turned to see only a boy about his height looking at him with a sure and determined look in his eyes. He was wearing a white T-shirt with a pokeball on it and a pair of black trousers and some white trainers to match the T-shirt. That was just about everything David could see at him because his examination of the boy was immediately interrupted by him.

"How about a battle, now and here?" the boy asked , his determined look being as strong than ever.

" That's a bit out of the blue."
David thought as he was just about to say his answer.

"So what will it be? "

" Why not? I could use a bit of training."

"OK , so it will be a 2 on 2 battle …………………. by the way the name is Josh."

" Mine's David …… you choose first."

The surrounding was just perfect for a battle : a flat terrain , some bushes that wear near some trees and of course a lot of rocks.

"Go Numel."
were the words from Josh as he sent his pokeball flying onto the battle ground.

"Wingull , you get there as well."

The battle was on and Josh had the first move and he didn't take long to set things in motion.

"Numel use Growl."
……….. but it was to late, David had already sent Wingull up in the sky to evade it's attack. Wingull then plunged down and David told it to use the same move as Numel. Josh knew that if he told Numel to use "Growl" again it will just be a waste cause David will do the same as he did before, so he instead told it to use "Ember". David counter attacked with Wingull's Water Gun. The two attacks collided, creating a lot of steam that surrounded the battlefield . It was just like a deep mist , you couldn't see even your own hand. David was calm , as always, because he intended to get to this from the beginning.

"Wingull use Water Gun again."
Wingull moved quickly through the mist and went straight for Numel. Numel got knocked into a rock and fell down unable to get up.

Josh was amazed by how Wingull saw through the mist , it thought it just got lucky. But that was no luck , David knew how to use Wingull's abbilty "Keen eye" and used it well . Josh recovered from his shock and sent out his second pokemon . This time it was a mouse pokemon that was colored in blue on its cheeks, ears , paws and tail , as for David he was sticking with his Wingull.

"Minun use Quick Attack."
The little mouse dashed towards Wingull as the mist finally cleared away due to a soft wind that just blew. Wingull got hit but didn't take very much damage.

"Wingull……..we're sticking with Water Gun."
The bird lunched his jet of water but only touched Minun as he was ordered to use Quick Attack to evade the move. Wingull kept going on Minun's tail lunching one Water Gun after another. Just as it was getting closer to Minun , Josh told Minun to turn around and use Spark. That was it for Wingull , a face on Spark on the water/flying pokemon did the trick , it was down, barley standing . David called Wingull back as he knew that another attack like that , or any other attack , would knock it out.

"Time for you Silcoon…..show him what you're made of."
Silcoon appeared on the field ready to get down to business.

" A poor little Silcoon is going to show me something………that's a laugh ………..he can't even move."
Josh barley said as he was trying not to laugh…….so loud.

"Don't listen to him Silcoon , we'll shut his mouth very quick… Poison Sting."
It launched a heard of pin poisoned needles at Minun hitting it right on the chest.

"To weak , Minun Quick attack."
Minun ran straight for Silcoon but as it was running David told Silcoon to use Harden. Minun hit Silcoon but it didn't do any damage , it just pushed Silcoon back a little.

"Then try this on for size…. Spark."
Again Minun ran for Silcoon but this time it hit it hard knocking him into a tree, but it got up despite the hit.

"Perfect his cornered, Minu Spark again."
were Josh's words as he saw that Silcoon was surrounded by rocks and the only way out was towards Minun, as the tree was blocking it from the back.

"Silcoon wait until the moment is perfect……………….just a bit…………………a little longer……………..now Stringh Shot."

A cloud of dust formed in front of the tree as the two pokemons collided. Josh had a big smile on his face being confident that a little String Shot wouldn't hurt his Minun even a bit. The cloud cleared and the only thing that was there was the little mouse pokemon , that was knocked out because it hit the tree instead of Silcoon. Josh looked around to see were the bug pokemon was and it spotted it on a branch, in the tree that Minun just hit . He then realized that the String Shot wasn't meant for attacking Minun , but for evading it's attack and tricking it into hitting the tree.

Ralts gave a shout , being happy that David won. The pokemon had watched the whole match from David's shoulder keeping its eyes on the match like glue .

"Thanks for the nice battle, it was a pleasure."

"Raaalts, Raaalts"
the little pokemon said wanting to say the same thing as it's trainer."

"Same here ."
Josh said as he came to his senses.

The two boys said farewell and went along on their separate ways , Josh heading towards the cable cart and David towards the end of the path .

The sun was just about to fade away, David just realized that the battle took a little longer that he expected, so they set camp , started a fire , ate a bit and then David got in his sleeping bag putting Ralts with him as well, both of them watching the stars until they fell asleep.

Little did they knew that they weren't the only one's there watching something , from a nearby bush there were a pair of black eyes watching carefully, not the stars, but the two campers………………..

After a tiring trek, the Lynch boy began to see the outline of a town. The sun was peeking through the horizon; it was nearing dusk now. The scorching breeze had recently calmed to a bearable temperature and Shrooms had fallen asleep yet another time while being huddled in its trainer's firm hold.

He picked up the pace, wishing to arrive in the town before nightfall at best. Even at this time of day the brush was active all around him. Sounds of unfamiliar and unsettled Pokémon came from every direction. Dune kept calm, though he imagined he was on his own at this point in time; his Shroomish had battled multiple Pokémon far above her level and needed time to heal.

More scurrying and scampering rustled tall plants and now even branches in the trees. Dune clutched his sleeping friend closer to his chest. 'It's all alright, I can handle myself.' He thought to himself. He was trying and failing at keeping his cool. It wasn't until a blue blob flashed in the corner of the trainer's eye that he lost it.

He began to race down the strip of path towards the small town. Lynch could hear the pitter patter from the blue Pokémon, it was following close behind. 'Just great, another follower!' he thought before feeling indecent and uncomfortable. Adjusting his hold on Shrooms, his right hand grazed the top of his head -- the spiked part of his hair.

"Where's my hat...?" Dune asked more to himself than anyone else; he got his response when the Marill let out a small giggle.

"Marill!" It chimed just after Dune had turned to face the Aqua-Mouse.

There, on the ground, a little off of the path to the left, stood a blue and white bubble with ears. It looked around a foot and a half tall, and on its tail sat a familiar looking accessory. A calm smile and sparkling eyes were shot at the outraged human before it again spoke its name.

'Ding' the PokéDex in Dune's pocket started to talk again so he pulled it out and flipped it open.
*pokemonelite2000 image removed*
"Marill; Water type: Its body is covered with water-repellent fur. Because of the fur, it can swim through water at high speed without being slowed by the water's resistance. Using its tail as a float, it dives underwater. It likes eating plants that grow on river bottoms."

"I don't see any water around here, Marill. What I do see is that you have something that doesn't belong to you. Now hand it over and I'll leave you alone." Dune Lynch demanded in a level tone, trying to persuade the Poké that it should do as he requested. Well, that didn't work out too well as the Marill tilted its head in confusion. It began to flick its tail around spinning the hat on its oily ball before calling out again, a hint of amusement and happiness in its tone.

"Play time is over..." Lynch slowly started to inch his way in the direction of the blue mouse. One slow step after the other and slumped over, he reached his free hand out while cradling Shroomish in his other arm. "... But that was a nice trick. If you let me see the hat, I can show you one."

"Ril? Maaar mar!" with a twinkle in his eye, the water-type eased its tail over to the eager looking boy. Its interest was now perked; it allowed Dune to grab back his hat. Sitting on the dirt and clapping its hands together, the Marill waited to see said trick.

Taking back his item, Dune smiled, turned, and ran away towards civilization.

"Mah mah mah!" The bubble jumped to its feet and threw a temper tantrum, it chased after the fleeing trainer. It was gaining on Dune with much haste and aimed for his leg. Plowing its head into the boy's leg, Dune felt a sharp rush of pain and, despite his decent balance, was thrown to the ground. As he reached out to cushion the fall, Shrooms was discarded and rolled a small distance away from its owner, the hat landing beside her and a Pokéball rolling out from the drink pocket of Dune's backpack.

"Rill." the Marill picked up the hat and placed it on its head, covering a round ear, then went to receive Shroomish.

Shrooms was groggy as she woke up from the rolling, and felt threatened. Releasing some spores on her body, when the Marill attempted to take her too, it faltered and almost immediately connected with the ground. The mushroom Pokémon blinked her tired eyes and observed the surroundings. She was all scuffed up and dirty, Lynch was on the ground and a wild Pokémon lay sleeping at her feet. Clearly disapproving of what she witnessed, she puffed up and turned away from her trainer.

The rolling Pokéball finally smacked into the Marill's slumbering profile before popping open. The Lynch kid rose to his feet, expecting the ball to absorb Marill, but something shocking then happened. Instead of the mouse going in, a seed came out!

It resembled that of an acorn, with a greenish grey cap and a brown and tan body. Its eyes were large and concealed themselves just below its top, like a hat of its own, and it had little feet holding him up. A familiar binging noise was sounded and withdrew it from the pocket.

*pokemonelite2000 image removed*
"Seedot; Grass type: SEEDOT attaches itself to a tree branch using the top of its head. It sucks moisture from the tree while hanging off the branch. The more water it drinks, the glossier this POKéMON's body becomes."

"Oh no, where'd this Pokémon come from? Did I steal it back in Mauville?...
" The boy looked stunned by confusion, so much so that he hadn't realized the seed Pokémon approach him. It gazed up at Lynch with giant yellow eyes, contrasting black rings around them.

"Dot. See seed sdot." The boy's hat was hanging off of its little tip. Slightly shy, when Dune had placed the hat back on his head loosely, the Seedot scurried away. 'Great, another Pokémon who doesn't understand me.'

The Marill was still snoozing, Shrooms had dozed off right next to the wild Pokémon. Sighing, Dune went to pick up Seedot's Pokéball and his Shroomish before stepping over Marill and heading into town. The Seedot raced to catch up with its trainer and followed very close behind, nearly nipping at Lynch's heel. It seemed skiddish of its surroundings -- more from the volcano?

Setting foot on rocky ground (Part 2)

David and Ralts eventually fell asleep , they were tired of all that walking during the day.

Lurking around in the bush were still those pair of black eyes, they didn't take sight of the campers even for just a moment, it was waiting calmly , for what, nobody knows.

A few hours passed and the little creature made it's move , it hopped slowly towards the sleeping bag , stopping at every hop to see if David or Ralts are still asleep. It stopped again near the extinguished fire , only some little pieces of coal were still struggling to stay lit. The creature didn't make a move , it liked the pleasant warm felling coming from the coals. It went closer to the fire and sat down to warm a little. As it was getting closer and closer towards the fire , wanting to get warmer and warmer , it didn't realize that it stepped on a burning coal. His sensor system kicked in, it was way warmer than it wanted to get, it gave a big shout towards the sky , just like a Poochyena howling at the moon.

"OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOink."

The creature went quickly into the bush again, still aching from it's burn. As it just went into the bush David woke up by the "howl" of the creature. He looked around and didn't see anything and went back to sleep. The pair of eyes were again looking at David , this time switching it's sight between it's burn and David .

Eventually David went asleep , just about the time the creature's burn faded away. It went back into action again ,this time , learning it's lesson and staying focused on it's target. It got near the sleeping bag , it just had to get over it and it would reach David's backpack and get some food. Gently climbing on both trainer and pokemon the creature managed to get over them, went to the backpack and took all the food it could carry. It had to climb again over them , but this time it's hands were occupied by the stolen food, so it thought it could jump over them . It got some speed and then jumped like it never did before landing on the other side ,right in front of David's hand.

The creature was relieved, it got what it came for and now could go and eat peacefully , but just as it wanted to make a step David grabbed it and put it in the same way that he was holding Ralts. David was still asleep , it did it unconsciously. David felt good with the too pokemon near it , but it was the other way around with the little creature , it was stuck and didn't have enough strength to get out of David's grip . It pushed , it pulled, it did everything so it could get lose but didn't succeed.
It stayed there about an hour when it made a face that was saying "there must be done what needs to be done". It bit David's arm , not to strong, just enough to get him awake. This time David was the one howling at the moon, it jumped out of it's sleeping bag , awaking Ralts with him. The little pokemon got free and watched the scene as the two were trying to understand what happened. David saw the pokemon and took his pokedex to check it .

" Spoink the Bounce Pokemon : A Pokémon that manipulates psychic power at will. It doesn't stop bouncing even when it is asleep. It loves eating mushrooms that grow underground."

"So you're a Spoink. Why did you do that?"

Spoink started mimicking what happened and after about half and hour of silly gestures David finally understood. David went towards Spoink and sat near it. Spoink coverd it's eyes thinking that David was going to hurt it.

"Don't be scared , I'm not going to hurt you , but promise me next time you'll ask kindly and won't act recklessly as you did."

"Sopink , Spoink."
the little pokemon cried in approval."

"Here take this , they will keep your mouth occupied for about a week."
were David's word as he gave Sopink a bag of fruit.

The little pig hopped joyfully around David and Ralts with the bag on it's head. After that it called David and Ralts to follow it. David packed his sleeping bag , took is backpack on and went on Spoink's tail. Spoink went through the bush , and jumped over two rocks that were blocking the way , David and Ralts doing the same.
The path that they were taking leaded down the mountain, but as they were getting further, the path was getting smaller and smaller until they were on a sharp edge. Spoink and Ralts had no problem passing it but David had to turn towards the cliff and walk slowly step by step until he reached safe ground. He could see the night sky filled with numerous stars, he even saw the Tauros constellation.

They went further until they reached a little cave. All of them entered in , David having to get down o bit to get in. The cave was warm and spacious for Spoink, but not that comfortable for humans. On a pile of musk that was growing from the wall there was a little egg. It was grey with two pink spots on each side and one on the top of the egg. Behind the egg there was another Spoink that kept watch over it. The two little Spoink went to each other and were looking as they were arguing over David and Ralts's presence. They were just like a couple , the Spoink that David meet being the father and the other the mother.

The male Spoink showed the female Spoink the bag David gave him , which made it calm down accepting the two into their home. They sat a bit , David and Ralts watching the two Spoink how they put the berries in a cave crack just like a storage for when the baby will be born. After they were done with the berries a howl came from near the entrance. It was a pack of two Zigzagoon that were led by a Linoon. They were after the berries, they always came to the two little Spoink and bullied them , taking their food.

David went towards the entrance and pushed them outside. Linoone sent the two Zigzagoon to face David. David grabbed two pokeballs and threw them on the field releasing Silcoon and Wingull. As they came out of the pokeball the two little Spoink came out to watch the scene along with Ralts that stayed with them out of David's orders to protect them.

The darkness that shrouded the area was filled with tension, the only bit of light was from the moon giving everyone just enough light to see each other. The two Zigzagoon rushed into a double zigzagged "Quick Attack".

"Wingull use Supersonic on both of them."

The bird's "Supersonic" landed on it's targets confusing them.

"
Silcoon follow up with String Shot."

The Zigzagoon got stuck into the silky string unable to move.

"Silcoon Poison Sting …….Wingull Water Gun".

The attacks hit both pokemon knocking them back near Linoon , rocks flying in the air from the impact. David got Wingull and Silcoon back into their pokeballs telling them that they did a great job. Linoon got mad and ran straight for David unleashing a powerful "Headbutt".

"Ralts it's yout turn , Teleport then Double Team."

Ralts teleported it in front of David and just as Linoon was about to hit it, it lunched it's Double Team surrounding Linoon. Linoon was looking at Ralts in any direction , it didn't know which one to attack so it used "Growl".

"Ralts…….Confusion."

Linoon got hit and ran in reatreath, leaving just as the two Zigzagoon were recovering. They followed their leader , never wanting to come back here again.

The two Spoinks were as happy as they could be, they didn't have to fear that their food will be stolen again. They went and jumped around Ralts and David. The Female Spoink went back into the cave and came outside with two berries for David : an Oran berry and a Lum berry , as a token of their gratitude. David thanked them and put them into one of it's backpack pockets. Then David said that they have to leave and that they were glad they could help them.

It was dawn , David and Ralts were walking on the path that the male Spoink told them to follow, it would get them to Lavaridge town in about one hour. The edge of the sun was rising above the outskirts of Lavaridge town , the two finally made it, with some bumps along the path, but they made it.

[PokeDex Entry]
Voice in head
Ace's thoughts
*Sound FX*

---
"I should have brought my bicycle with me..." Ace murmured as he took a glance, over at the bike bridge.

He was going on his way to Mauville City and he was passing through the path under the bridge.

"I need to get there quick!" he shouted to the heavens.

Why don't you capture a Pokemon while you're at it, a voice in his head said.

The voice was pretty much his voice, but in another manner of speaking. He was taking special medicines to get rid of his other personality, but he could never get rid of him completely.

"You do have a point there..." he whispered to himself.

Great, I'm talking to a voice inside my head.

Just go find any nice ones and weaken them, then-

"Look, I know how the capturing method is done. Just wait... and chill, 'kay?"

I'm going crazy!
---

Ace searched for wild Pokemon everywhere. He checked every bush he passed and crouched every five minutes in every tall grass.

Where did all the Pokemon go?

Thirty minutes of searching, and still no luck.

"I give up! There is no use! All the Pokemon must've gone on a vacation or something." he exclaimed. Luckily, there was no one there to hear his ranting.

He continued on with his walking, then suddenly...

*rustle* *rustle*

A bush was shaking just a meter away from him

*rustle* *rustle* *whoosh*

A Zigzagoon jumped out of the bush!

Goon!

Finally! Now PokeDex. Where's my PokeDex.

He rummaged his bag, searching for the digital encyclopedia.

Where is it?

Zig-za-goon!

Oh no! It's getting away!

"Oh no, you're not! Taillow, help me out here!" he exclaimed as the raccoon Pokemon walked away. He dropped his bag and threw a Pokeball in the air. It opened in mid-air and released a bright light. The light formed a silhouette of a bird Pokemon then finally revealed a Taillow.

Just then, a red device fell out of his dropped bag. He picked it up and searched for the Pokemon named Zigzagoon.

[ZIGZAGOON: The TinyRaccoon Pokemon. Rubbing its nose against the ground, it always wanders about back and forth in search of something. It is distinguished by the zigzag footprints it leaves. ]

"Right then. Taillow, use Pe-"
No, Ace. Make good use of your Pokemon's abilities. Check the PokeDex entry for Taillow.

"Huh? Oh! Right. Let's see here...aha!"
I can't believe I'm taking orders from a voice in my head

"Taillow's attacks are...got it!"

He closed the PokeDex and stared right at the wild Zigzagoon, who was staring at Ace awkwardly.

"Taillow, use Peck on Zigzagoon!"

The TinySwallow Pokemon swooped straight at the wild Pokemon and hit it with a powerful Peck.

Goon!

The raccoon Pokemon retaliated with a quick Scratch that hit the Taillow on the wings.

Tey-low!

"Ack! Taillow! Hang in there."

The poor TinySwallow was now just lying down with an injured wing.

Relax, Ace. It was just a Scratch. A mere Scratch that can't even kill a small fly.

You're probably right.

"Taillow, straighten up!"

Harsh words came out of Ace's mouth. His other personality was taking over him.

"Taillow, do as I say and use Peck! Full power! NOW!" he was yelling now.

The injured Taillow quickly stood up, startled by his master's commands. It flapped its wings and took off in the air. It lowered its beak and swooped low, straight at the wild Zigzagoon.

Teyyy-LOW!

Seconds before the impact, the TinyRaccoon dodged.

"Keep using Peck until its all tired out!" he commanded.

The poor Taillow kept attacking the raccoon but everytime it did, it missed.

Ace get a hold of yourself!
Brutal force will solve everything
Strategize! Your Taillow is injured! Do something about it! TAKE CONTROL!

"Taillow, stop it! Use Focus Energy."

He finally took control again. With his Taillow all tired up, it had only one chance of beating the wild Pokemon.

The swallow Pokemon quickly stopped pecking the raccoon and just stood a safe distance away from the Pokemon. It just stood there staring right at the TinyRaccoon.

The Zigzagoon did the same, but it stared in a confused manner. It didn't know what was happening.

Ace also stared at the TinyRaccoon. He was looking for the right time. The right time to unleash his final move.

Moments later...

"NOW! Use Peck! Full speed!"

The Taillow then flew straight in the air in an incredible speed. It quickly took a stop, lowered its beaks, and went in for a dive straight at the wild Zigzagoon.

Teyyy...

Before the attack hit, the TinyRaccoon tried to dodge it but fortunately, Taillow knew what was coming. It took a quick step to the left and, in a snap, Taillow changed course.

LOW!

The powerful Peck hit, and judging by the looks of it, it hit critically.

"Yes! Good job, Taillow!"
Tey-low, low!

Ace rejoiced with his Pokemon for the success of his first battle.
Aren't you forgetting something?

"What? Oh! Right."

Before it regained conciousness, Ace threw a Pokeball at the unconscious Zigzagoon. A white light absorbed it and...

Passing the border line between Route 112 and Lavaridge Town, Lynch could feel the tense auras of his two grass-type Pokémon fade dramatically. It was late and they had all suffered through a long day. Seedot, the newest addition to Dune's team was still cuddling close to the boy trainer's pant leg. surprisingly, it had not run into him or tripped over his feet; the acorn-like Pokémon mimicked its trainer's gait to a t.

A familiar solace was in view now, illuminated by glowing windows and a dim sign: Pokémon Center. The boy's first stop, he sped up slightly, but was yawning quite desperately as fatigue weighed him down. His eyes were becoming heavy and his body ached from the rough trudging and the fights with his starter. It wasn't much of a shock that the walk-in Pokémon hospital/inn keep was still open at these late hours. The white-haired young adult strode through the sliding glass doors and into an overly bright room. When he reached the counter, he placed his sleeping Shroomish, Shrooms, on it.

It seemed that Sapling didn't take too well to the strange pink-haired nurse on the other side. He trembled and pressed its shaking form against Dune's limb. This Pokémon was obviously timid, skittish and contradicted all that Shrooms was. The skater kid bent over to pick up his seed Pokémon, it made a noise and clung the best it could to Dune Lynch's chest. After a look over, Nurse Joy confirmed that the Seedot didn't need treatment, it was fine. The Shroomish was taken into the back to be fixed up, she was still asleep.

"Think I could get a room for the night?" His voice seemed strained and more gruff than usual. After all, the only sleep he had in the past forty-eight hours was due to a Pokémon effect. Smiling, Joy handed over a key with a tag labeled 203.

"Thanks, how long will Shrooms be?" just a couple of moments after he'd asked, the mushroom Pokémon was back from its touch-up. She'd slept like a rock through the whole encounter and Dune was envious. He gripped his starter and finally made his trek to bed. After climbing the stairs and passing a few occupied doors, he unlocked his place, walked in, slammed the door and without taking off one single article of clothing (not even his hat) collapsed onto the mattress, out like a light. Sapling followed suite, cuddling up close to Lynch's arm. Shrooms was positioned directly above the other grass-type.

---

Morning came and transitioned into afternoon. Dune was woken by nudging, he opened his sand-filled eyes to see that Sapling, the Seedot was beaming to see its trainer alive. Shifting to sit upright, the skittish acorn shivered and darted away; Shrooms the Shroomish was shooting dart-like glares from the foot of the bed. It was clear that she disliked that Sapling was invited to join their duo. In her mind, Dune betrayed her. This was the last thing he needed and so he decided to put it off and deal with the scorned female Pokémon later. For now, he was hungry.

There were a few complimentary articles of food in the mini-fridge, that would have to get them by as the skater lacked money. He set aside some Pokémon food for the two oddballs in his new collection and granted them to eat the rest for now. Sapling was ecstatic, exaggerating every last bit -- and after a while, even Shroom had complied to eat. Just like that, they were prepared to head out again.

On his way out, the newbie trainer noticed a flyer, "Come and relax in our soothing hot springs! First timers free!" It was like a message from Arceus, his grass-type Pokémon party would surely love to bathe in the scorching water. Smirking wildly, he thanked the nurse and left the building; there was a salty pool of bubbling water waiting for them. A few people occupied the area, but it wasn't going to ruin the boy's optimism. Both of his Pokémon's eyes grew in size and shone with desire.

"Well, go on then. I'm right behind you." he didn't need to tell Shrooms twice, a large splash was sounded before she resurfaced -- he was forgiven in her book. Sadly, Dune had to lift up and escort his acorn in -- not that the Seedot didn't want to go in, he did, but Sapling envied Shroomish. He was more interested in being babied by his trainer than soaking up the wonderous waters.

They were all wading around now, Shroomish not accepting Seedot in any way, shape or form. A Chansey came out, it wore the signature nurse cap and delivered a letter to Dune. This is how he learned of how he obtained Seedot:

The front of the letter said "Duney" and was scribbled in familiar cursive, his mother's hand.
Just checking up on you. I was a little worried if you'd make it on your travels or not... And well I was tending the garden when I found a very big acorn fall from our oak tree. It was a Pokémon, love! I spoke to Professor Maple, she's such a wonderful and kind-hearted lady, anyways she told me that you were given a distrusting Pokémon. The Seedot, that's its name, that dropped from our tree seemed so nice and so I asked her to help me catch it. So here it is, and it's yours now. Please take care of him, love you and rooting for you Duney! --Mom

He sighed and discarded the letter, sinking further into the salty spring. It was a kind gesture of her, but he was a grown up now... Sapling was staring wide-eyed as Dune became submerged and protectively scurried over to him. It loved him, the rooky trainer returned a softened gaze at Seedot. He knew it was fate.

Warren was feeling extremely grumpy as he headed towards the Lavaridge Gym. Looking around town and resulted in finding absolutely no trace of his missing Pokémon. Ungrateful bastards were probably heading back to Slateport for a holiday on the beach. Well fine then. If they didn't want him, he didn't want them either. He could beat this Gym with just Cuddles. He'd heard around town that the Leader was some girl who'd only recently taken over the gym. Easy pickings. Once he was on the road again, he could catch some new Pokémon to replace his old useless ones.

Taking a deep breath, Warren pushed open the door of the large concrete building, marching confidently towards the centre of the pitch black room. As he slowed to a stop, the lights snapped on, revealing a simple arena - white paint on a hard rock floor. It was a cold day, but in here the heat was stifling, almost making it difficult to breathe. At the other end of the arena stood a young woman, probably not much older than twenty. Warren smiled, a little vacantly. The biggest challenge would probably be not getting distracted by the frankly ridiculously small T-shirt she was wearing. The woman stared at him, apparently unimpressed by the gawking youth. Clearing her throat, she held up a Pokéball.

"My name is Flannery. I assume you're here for a battle, so you might want to release one of your Pokémon." Warren blinked a few times, then sighed before lazily throwing his only useful Pokéball. Cuddles emerged, yawning. Flannery tilted her head to the side, flicking her massive mane of flame-red hair.

"Cute." Warren's lip curled into a snarl at her derisory tone of voice as she tossed her own Pokéball, releasing a small pool of magma with eyes attached.

"Two on two, no time limits, you're allowed to switch, I'm not. Got it?" Warren nodded, deciding not to mention that he couldn't really switch Pokémon anyway. Flannery grinned.

"Alright then! Slugma, Ember!" With a yawn, the slug spat a few flickering flames at the bear, who quickly skidded to the side.

"Counter with Scratch!" Taking advantage of its superior speed, the Teddiursa shot forwards and jabbed its claws deep into Slugma's body. The lava Pokémon winced but did nothing, just staring at Cuddles. Then, instantly, the bear leapt backwards, wailing and clutching its burned paw. Warren cursed himself for making such a stupid mistake as magma oozed over the small cut in Slugma, sealing it instantly. Flannery sniggered.

"Alright, Rock Throw. Put 'em out of their misery." Warren grinned. That was a chance. Slugma flicked its head and the two balls of magma drooping from its upper lip flew off, cooling rapidly and turning into small rocks.

"Catch!" The one word, barked gleefully, changed the battle in an instant. With a diving leap, Cuddles caught one of the rocks safely in both hands, while the other clattered harmlessly into the wall behind it. Stooping, the bear picked it up, a rock in each hand.

"Now take that slug out!" Dashing forwards, Cuddles gleefully smashed a rock into each side of Slugma's head. Recoiling, it screeched in pain.

"Fury Swipes, top speed!" The bear whirled its arms, claws slashing Slugma at speeds too fast to be seen - too fast for the heat to burn. Cuddles made one last jab, right between the eyes, and Slugma reared up, dripping magma as it flailed in pain, before crashing to the ground. Flannery nodded.

"Not bad." Warren was pleased to notice that the mocking edge was gone from her voice. Silently, she returned the slug and threw another ball as Cuddles settled into a fighting stance once more. With a flash of light, a small orange turtle with a black and red shell emerged, glaring at Cuddles through narrowed, almost closed eyes. Warren frowned. This might be tough.

"Overheat, Torkoal!" With no warning, the turtle opened its mouth and a giant cone of flame erupted from its gullet, engulfing Cuddles along with half of the arena. The flames died down to reveal the bear lying flat on its back, unconscious. Warren swore as he begrudgingly returned it. Well, that was the end of that. He turned to go, but Flannery shouted after him.

"Aren't you going to send out your second Pokémon?"

"No." The Gym Leader frowned.

"Where you from anyway?"

"Pallet Town. Kanto." Flannery laughed.

"So you've come all that way and yet you still only have one Pokémon? How much do you suck at catching them?" Warren ground his teeth.

"I caught plenty! I just...don't have them anymore..." Flannery tried not to burst out laughing at that.

"What, you lost them?" Then she paused.

"Actually..." she muttered, staring at Warren, "Follow me. There's something you need to see." With that, she strode past Warren and out of the exit, Torkoal bounding along after her. Warren paused. Well, it wasn't like he had any dignity left to lose. He followed.

The first thing Kliff noticed as he approached Lavaridge Town was the large steam clouds. He had never tried anything like a hot spring before, but if it supposedly helped you relax, then this might be his first time.

First thing was first though. Kliff located the Pokecentre (which happened to be the entrance to the hotspring too). He procceeded with the usual - handing the nurse his pokemon and showing his pokedex to get a free room. The centre itself was a little smaller than others, however it made up for it with its 'features', so to speak. Kliff unlocked his door and opened it with a slight creak. His room looked out to the town (which was now under a sunset light).

"I might aswell leave the gym until tomorrow," he muttered to himself. He then slung his bag down onto his bed and unzipped it,

"Where did I put those swim shorts?"

----------

As Kliff walked down the corridor to the springs, he was immidiately met with sweltering hot air, using the towel slung over his shoulders to wipe his brow. A futile effort, as it began sweating again in mere seconds. He stepped outside and into the natural hot springs. At this time of day, it was fairly quiet - there were only a handful of people dotted here and there.

As he walked into the water, he was somewhat confused as to why there were no seperate sections for males and females. Maybe people in Lavaridge had no trouble with a unisex spa. Finding his spot, he sat down slowly. All the rumours he had heard were right - the hot water was quite soothing. He could even feel the leg that the Carvanha bit on a while back tingle. It was only now he realised how physical his journey had been so far, barely feeling like he could move as his whole body began to relax.

Maybe a bit too much than expected, though. For as soon as Kliff lay back a little and rested his head, he was off to sleep.

[OOC: Very little happening here =P I'm toying with more ideas though so stay tuned...]

@Ash_Ketchum123 - Since you didn't tell me what pokemon you wanted to begin with, I'm going to let you have the Zigzagoon as a freebie. In future, please bulk you battle posts up a little. You had Taillow beat Zigzagoon in only one hit...

Congratulations Ace caught a Level 10 Zigzagoon

@Nukoe - Great post! A really good way to introduce the personalities of Dune and his new pokemon. Can't wait to read more :)

@I Laugh At Your Misfortune - I would have thought Warren would have learned not to take on a Gym Leader 2 on 1 by now? Nice post anyway, can't wait to see what Flannery has to show Warren...

Congratulations Teddiursa (Cuddles) grew to Level 15 and learned Faint Attack

@Zeph - Nice to see you posting again :)

Lavaridge town: Into the mist

David and Ralts were relieved that they finally made it to Lavaridge town. As they were walking on the main road of the city they admired the simple yet gorgeous houses. They were simple , but this simplicity was what made them something hard to ignore, they gave you a pleasant and warm feeling, just enough to make you want to stay there and relax for hours and hours.

A red roof was rising from the end of the road, it was the Pokemon Centre and the first thing on David's agenda. As he and Ralts entered , David took a pokeball from his belt and called Ralts back. He then went to nurse Joy , kindly asking her to heal his pokemon and see how they were doing. He went and sat on a couch waiting for his pokemon. As he rolled his eyes around the room , looking at the different persons that came in and went out to heal or retrieve their pokemon or just to have a chat with some friends, he saw a big poster on the wall. He got up and went slowly towards the poster trying to read it as he got closer and closer:

Lavaridge Springs

"A perfect place to get soaked and relax until you get wrinkled.
We'll have to force you to get out, just kidding you'll have plenty of time to enjoy your bath.
Just ten minutes away from the Pokemon Center, and this week it's just for free so if you have time don't hesitate to stop by. "

David was overjoyed about it , after all that walking , climbing and battling , it was the perfect place for him and his pokemon. Nurse Joy came into the room with three pokeballs for David.

"They were a bit tired but they are in perfect shape."

"Thanks nurse Joy."

"Your welcome."

"Nurse Joy…. could you tell me how to get to the natural springs?"

"As you exit the Pokemon Centre turn left and walk about 8 - 9 minutes and you should be there , look for a blue sign."

"Thanks again , we'll be leaving." David said as he exited.

"Goodbye, and check your pokemon you'll have a surprise................oh he already left."

The boy didn't hear nurse Joy's last words , he was to enthusiastic about the springs so he rushed there. He went on the road and stopped in front o a blue sign " Lavaridge Springs ". David entered and went at the main desk . There was an old lady who was taking out some towels from under the desk.

" Hello…….. what could I help you with? "

" I would like to take a bath in the hot springs."

" Right this way please………….would you like to have your pokemon with you?"

"Yes of course."

David was walking on a long corridor. The old lady told him that he could stay as long as he likes giving him some towels for when he gets out. They went into a room were David was told to put his stuff and clothes and take only the towels and pokeballs with him. Then the old lady opened a door and there you could see the steam coming from the spring.

"Have a great time."

"Don't mind if we do." were David's word as he approached the edge of the spring.

He then got his pokeballs , the old lady still standing behind him to take his pokeballs were he put his stuff. He took one pokeball in each hand.

"Ralts , Wingull come out."

The two were surprised to see that they were at the hot springs. Ralts happily went into the water staying close were David could see him. Wingull had the other way around , it dashed into the steam making loops above the surface of the water then landing on it like a swan. As he watched the two he asked the lady for a little rubber boat for kids if she had one. The lady went inside and after some minutes it came with a little orange rubber boat with black stripes on it.

"You're lucky , it's the last one I have …………the other ones were popped by some children………….but aren't you too old to play with such things." the lady told with a confused face.

" No… no…. no it's not for me, it's for my Silcoon" David said with a big smile on his face.

"Oh………..i get it know." the lady laughed quietly because of her misunderstanding.

He took the boat and threw it into the spring. Then he took his pokeball and pointed it towards the boat. The boat had drifted away going into the mist that was formed at the other side of the spring. All you could see was a round shaped thing. David aimed for the shadow.

"Silcoon your turn."

The red beam went towards the boat and the shadow grew bigger. Now it looked like o flower pot with a cactus growing in it. David had just put his feet into the water when the "cactus" started to glow. The light was getting brighter and brighter through the mist, but you still couldn't see through it. The cactus grew bigger , it grew wings and started to fly around. David still couldn't see anything so he went further into the water , but as he got closer, the shadow came towards him and from above a Beautifly gracefully landed on top of his head.

"Beauty Beatuilfy."

"You've evolved , that's amazing." David said as he took Beautifly from his head.

He couldn't be happier , his pokemon reached his final stage of evolution. Ralts and Wingull came along to greet Beautifly.

"The mist and spring hold many secrets and mysteries…….keep that in mind." The old lady said with a confident smile as she left , leaving David and his pokemon to enjoy the hot spring.

They sat in there and relaxed, then had a water fight , but not quite fair for David. Ralts was using Confusion to make big water balloons and splashing them in David's head , Wingull didn't need any water from the spring, it used its Water Gun , but using it with a small jet of water not to hurt anyone, and Beautilfy used it's wings to throw water at anyone in sight . David was stuck to the traditional way of splashing using his hands, but it was ok, they were enjoying themselves and had a lot of fun.

Hours passed and it was time to go. David left the spring to get his clothes and stuff, letting his pokemon get a little more time at the spring. He took his clothes on, watching through a window as the pokemon were swimming, then he wanted to take his backpack but when he reached for it he found a box on top of it which a letter was put. David took the letter and started reading:

" Dear David

If you're reading this that means that you are in Lavaridge town. I hear it's a beautiful place to go and relax and spend some time at the hot springs. I hope you're taking good care of your pokemon and of yourself. I asked the post man to deliver this package at the hot springs or at the Pokemon Centre , wherever he could find you. Don't forget to bring me something nice from your travels.

Love,

Melody

PS: Got you something while I was shopping , hope you like it. "

He then picked the box and opened it , there lied a wonderful black hoodie that had white pockets and a white zipper. He took it on and was amazed that it was just his size. David couldn't like it more , he was grateful for his sisters gift , he was thinking of buying one to get warm on those chilly nights in the wild. After that he took his backpack on and called all of his pokemon back , thanked kindly the old lady for the great service and then went towards the Pokemon Centre to get a room with a big smile on his face due to his new acquisition.

David opened the door to his room and put his stuff on the table and hit the bed. He stayed awake for about am hour thinking of his new evolved pokemon , about his sister's gift and most about the his next battle for his next gym badge that was going to take place tomorrow, finally falling asleep at about one am. .

@romdinner - Nice post, it was a good way to have Silcoon evolve :) Also some nice interaction between David and his pokemon.

Congratulations Silcoon evolved into Beautifly, and Beautifly learned Absorb

OOC: School may be ridiculously insane and this may be a day or too late...but I'm not giving up on this yet ;)

Warren slouched after Flannery as she strode through the town. Things were not exactly going how he'd planned. The gym leader turned as she reached the door of the Pokémon Centre.

"Hurry up. We're nearly there." Warren scowled. And now he was taking orders from some girl, who'd probably spent longer colouring her hair than in charge of a gym. Ignoring his glare, Flannery pushed open the door. Nurse Joy looked up as the pair walked through.

"They've all settled down now. We can probably reopen the hot springs." They? Warren paused. If the sinking feeling in his gut was to be trusted, he could see where this was going. Flannery led him down a corridor half hidden behind a potted plant next to the main counter, coming to a wooden door. As she pushed it open, a wave of heat and steam rolled into the building, causing Warren to flinch. The heat was almost as oppressive as in the gym. Flannery swept through the door and Warren followed, looking around in surprise. They were under a large overhang of rock jutting out from the side of Mount Chimney. In several deep rocky holes were pools of boiling hot water. A little way up the cliff, water and steam trickled from small holes in equal measure, feeding the baths. But Warren was busy looking at what, or rather, who was in the hot springs. Four strangely familiar Pokémon faces were staring back at him. Then, after a moment's pause, all four turned back and returned to their bathing. Warren paused. This wasn't quite what he'd expected. At least they were here.

"Alright guys, good to see you're all here. We've got a gym to beat, so let's get going, eh?" This was rewarded with a slightly longer glare, but nothing else. Warren turned to Flannery.

"What do I do?" She shrugged.

"They're not my Pokémon. I found the Ralts wandering around with her arms full of Pokéballs, so I suggested she rest up here until I found her trainer. I'm guessing that's you." Warren's hand went to his belt. The only ball there was Cuddles's.

"But...you're, like, meant to be the expert. Can't you tell why they're acting so pissed?" Flannery raised an eyebrow.

"Pokémon and people aren't all that different. If they're annoyed, it's probably because you annoyed them. I'm not going to make you do anything, but you're not forcing any of them to follow you. I'm the gym leader here and I have a responsibility to protect Pokémon welfare. So they either choose you or they stay here." Warren frowned.

"Fine." Stepping forwards, he cleared his throat slightly and the Pokémon, his teammates not long ago, looked up once more.

"I know I haven't done that great a job. So, let's just take the chance to think things over and try and sort out where we stand." Warren paused. "I'm not leaving this town unless all of you are coming with me." The team ignored him. Looked like he'd have to try a bit harder. One at a time. Start with the easy ones.

"Silver." The small wolf looked up from where it was lying down on a narrow ridge of rock between two pools. Warren paused, unsure how to start.

"So. I shouted at you." Silver ignored him. Ok, that was kind of weak. Warren sighed.

"Well, what do you want me to say?" Silver stood up, yawned and looked at him expectantly.

"Fine. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have tried to force you to fight." Silver nodded slowly, then stepped towards where the five Pokéballs were, lying against the Pokémon Centre wall. It stopped, looking up at where Violet was sitting, arms crossed, on a narrow rock spire. She looked down, nodded almost imperceptibly, then resumed staring at the mountain. Silver poked it's Pokéball with the tip of its nose, and disappeared inside with a flash of red light. Warren looked up at the rest of his team. Useless was sitting next to Violet, looking a little confused. Cannonball was resting underneath a small waterfall, eyes closed. Taking a deep breath, the trainer stepped up and rested his hand on its side. Its eyes blinked open and it looked down at him.

"I'm sorry for getting you hurt like that, okay?" Wailmer said nothing. Warren turned to Flannery.

"Now what?" Flannery raised an eyebrow.

"Maybe you're apologising for the wrong thing." Warren chewed his lip as he sat down next to the large whale. Maybe he should just take it from the top.

"We seemed to get along to begin with, didn't we?" Cannonball made a low rumble which could have been assent or disagreement. Warren paused.

"...didn't we?" Warren tried to think back. He'd caught Cannonball aboard the boat, then used him for the first time in that battle alongside Sam, where he'd...oh yeah. The first time he'd sent out Cannonball, it had been to get clobbered in the face by an Onix. They'd won the battle, sure, but it probably hadn't been the best start. Warren stood up again and looked the Wailmer in the eye.

"I'm sorry that I just threw you out there. I didn't even say hello, just sent you out to be a meat shield. I should've met you properly first. I'd like to try again, if you'll let me." Cannonball let out another loud grumble and motioned towards one of the balls with its flipper. Warren held it up and the whale tapped it, shooting inside it in the form of a red glow. Warren let out a long breath. Two more to go. He'd leave the really hard one for last.

"Useless?" The bonsai looked down at him, then quickly hopped off the rocky perch. Warren frowned. This one was different. He knew the problem, but how do you apologise to a baby without becoming a baby yourself? Warren crouched, trying to get somewhere near eye level.

"Ok. I know I probably haven't been a great role model. I always just ignored the fact that you were a kid and treated you just the same as the rest. " Violet made a sound that sounded distinctly like disgruntled muttering. Warren ignored her.

"If you rejoin me, then I'll let you decide which battles to fight, okay?" Useless tilted its head to one side, then nodded amicably. It too returned itself to one of the Pokéballs. Warren grimaced. Now what did he do? Violet and him had never exactly seen eye to eye. Warren looked up. Right at the empty stone pillar. She was gone.

[Presenting to you, boys and girls: a JP by myself and that guy laughing at my misfortune ¬¬]

As Kliff shifted uneasily in his sleep, he was woken up by the familiar hard surface he had laid back on earlier. He stretched and let out an unessesary yawn as he came to his sense. The hot spring was still as relaxing as before, nicely lit by the afternoon sunshine.

"...wait."

He hadn't, had he? Did he just sleep the whole night in a pool? He resisted the urge to look at his hands, which were probably looked like rotten prunes at this point.

Kliff sighed as he put his hand to his forehead, "The pokemon. They've been at that counter all night..." He was just about to stand up, however as he turned his head to the side, he was met face to face with a small, green helmeted white thing.

The thing look down at him inquisitively. A little aggressively, even. Then, with a flick of its head, it turned and hopped away from the edge of the pool and quickly scaled a small pillar of rock where it sat, scowling down at the trainer.

There was a silence as the two stared.

"What's your beef?" Kliff asked the grumpy looking thing, sitting there scowling on the mere mortal in its sights. It didn't reply as such, choosing instead to wave its hand lazily through the air. A small pebble floated up to hover by the Ralts's head. It glared at Kliff, the threat obvious.

Kliff's eyebrows ascended. This thing must be crazy. He stood up, swaying a little due to not using any muscles for hours. He was almost at the same height as the smurf.

"Surely you must have a rational reason for doing this?" He asked, still bemused, "You know I do have some pokemon of my own, so watch it." The Ralts glared back, then pointed with its free hand, making the message clear. Go away. To emphasise its point, it wiggled its hand, and two more pebbles rose into the air beside the first.

"No pleasing you, is there?" Kliff sighed as he picked up the towel and slung it round his shoulders, "Fine by me, besides I have stuff to do." He stepped out of the pool, but nonetheless, he was p*ssed. He didn't want this thing to think it had scared him off.

"You could use a bath anyway," he added as he walked away, "Your attitude stinks."

At that precise moment, the nearby back door of the Pokémon centre burst open and another trainer, about Kliff's age, stepped out. Warren stared up at Violet, who glared right back.

"Alright...now I've got you."

Kliff stood in the same spot, switching gaze between green-hair and the trainer that just burst out right infront of him. Slowly, he walked over to the wall of the pokemon centre, and watched the current sutuation. Warren glared at him.

"And who the hell are you? If this is your attempt to kidnap Violet, then you're gonna be really sorry. I've had more than enough of thieves."

"I - what?! Kidnap? That thi- er, Violet, was about to pelt me with rocks!" Kliff replied as he pointed accusingly at the white pokemon,

"And since you asked so nicely, I'm Kliff." Warren glared at Violet.

"So you're happy to pelt random trainers with boulders but a gym battle is far too much to ask? What the hell is going on in your head?" Violet chose to respond by jumping onto Warren's head, then bouncing over a wall. Warren groaned.

"Great. Now I have to find her all over again." Turning, he looked at Kliff.

"What are you doing here anyway?"

Kliff gave the other trainer a funny look, "I was just using the hotspring. What did you think I was doing?" Warren stared at him.

"You were here last night too and you were here when I woke up. Did you spend the entire night in the pools or something?"

Kliff scratched his head, "Yea... I dozed off." Warren snickered.

"Nice one...Kliff, right? Did you see where that Ralts came from, by any chance?"

Kliff's eyes narrowed slightly as the mystery trainer laughed, "No, just sorta crept up out of nowhere." Warren frowned.

"But why come here if she's trying to avoid me?" Warren paused, then looked over at Kliff again.

"I'm Warren, by the way. The delinquet is Violet. Basically the most violent Ralts you'll ever meet, until you ask her to battle, at which point she becomes the world's sternest pacifist. And now she's gone running amok and I've been trying to catch her for three days." Warren paused again.

"Well, that's my story, more or less. What about you?"

"Wow, I always heard Ralts were quite friendly creatures. Well, nice to meet you Warren. Me? I'm just competing in the Hoenn league. Oh, and I'm also on the lookout for Teams Aqua and Magma." That's when it clicked. Kliff froze as he remembered hearing Warren's name from Sam. Warren tensed up.

"Good. I'm not exactly a fan of either of them myself." He looked Kliff in the eye.

"I heard they'd been spotted near here. So if you know where they are, it would be really great if you'd feel like sharing."

"Your guess is as good as mine," Kliff sighed, "you've heard more than I have." As Warren stared at him, he bagan to recognise him more. He completely resembled the Warren he'd seen on the TV a few months back.

"As a matter of fact," Kliff added, "Sam Saruno told me all about the situation. That's part of the reason I'm looking for them." Warren bit his lip.

"Fine...look, I know it's kinda presumptuous, but d'you mind helping me look for Violet?"

Kliff paused. He was still in his swimshorts. But it was a hot day, and a warm place, "Sure, why not. Just let me go grab my team." He quickly strode into the centre and approached the counter.

"Here for your pokemon I take it?" The nurse asked.

"Yea..."

"You left them here all night. They don't look very lively."

"I know, I, um... dozed off." Without another word, he took his belt from the woman's hand and clipped it around his waist, before returning outside to meet Warren,

"Okay then, let's go get her... him?"

"Oh yeah, Violet is definately a boy, you pillock," Warren replied, "I was thinking, this is a fairly small place. Violet can't have gotten far, so if we spread out and sweep the place methodically, there's no way we can miss her."

Kliff sighed, "I suppose. Okay then, I'll go that way," he pointed towards the direction of the town's exit, "And if I see her, my Tangela can probably bind her or something." Warren glared at him.

"No. If she comes, then she comes of her own free will."

Kliff raised an eyebrow, "O-kaayy." He began walking in one direction, "I didn't expect you to be the type that lets their pokemon make the demands, though." Another glare.

"Well up until recently, I tried ordering them around. And it backfired pretty damn badly. Pokémon aren't slaves and you can't act like they are." Warren paused. "Don't get me wrong. I'm not the touchy feely huggy type. I'm just trying to be the best trainer I can."

"Yea, I know what you mean," Kliff replied. He didn't want to admit it, but he did set out on this journey with that view.

"Anyway, let's not dawdle. Violet could end up who knows where." Warren nodded.

"If you see her, just shout, ok?"

Kliff walked to a gate in the hotspring walls, "Simple enough."

He gently strode along the outer road of the town, scanning the surroundings for the pebble dasher. He got a couple of looks from some of the senior citizens, presumably to do with his current attire. He payed no attention - it was a really nice day, and the sun was slowly drying him off.

"Let's hope this thing hasn't threatened someone else..." Kliff sighed to himself. Warren, meanwhile, walked off in the other direction, his eyes flicking back and forth, looking for the telltale flash of green and white.

Kliff stopped. He heard something fly past nearby. He turned to rougly where the noise had come from. Nothing. He was at the other side of the town now, with only a few pedestrians dotted here and there. As he watched, something suddenly smacked him in the side of the head. It was painful enough to cause Kliff to swear loudly as he held his head tightly. Looking in the direction of the culprit, he wasn't surprised to see the green helmeted brat snickering heartily.

"You little-!" Warren spun as he heard the shout. At the other end of the main road, Kliff was clutching the side of his head. Going with his gut, Warren shot off down the road, shouting as he did so.

"Don't let her leave until I get there!"

No sooner had Warren called over, Violet was preparing to take off again. Kliff tried to grab her attention.

"That was a lucky shot," he said dissmisingly, causing the Ralts to stare at him once more, "I bet you couldn't hit me again. Call that a Confusion? I've seen stronger Splash attacks!"

Voilet growled surprisingly deep for her cute look. She raised a hand menacingly, and suddenly Kliff felt like gravity had doubled. He could feel Violet try and force him to the ground with Confusion - obviously aiming to prove him wrong. He grunted and groaned as he was able to stay standing. An attack of that strength wasn't going to send him to the floor, but he had to push against it. Warren skidded around the corner, almost falling over in the rush. A strange sight awaited him. Violet was glaring maliciously at Kliff, hands outstretched. Kliff, for his part, was grunting under the strain of...nothing. Warren began to wonder whether it had been a good idea to ask along the boy who'd spent the night asleep in a hot spring.

"I found your Ralts," Kliff grunted as Confusion tried to push him downward, "It would be great if..." the gravity increased, "you could retrieve it now!" Warren grimaced.

"Alright, Violet, that's enough!" The Ralts scowled, but dropped her arms to her side. She turned to go, but Warren stepped forwards.

"Look, I get why you don't have any respect for me - because I never earned it. But why don't you just tell me how to change that?" Violet glared at Warren, then raised a hand and flicked it to the side. Instantly, he was sent crashing against the wall of the building they were standing behind. Warren winced as he bounced back, rubbing his shoulder, but grinned anyway.

"Right...I guess Brawly did say that I never fought you myself...I just assumed it would be in a normal battle," warren raised his fists, "But I'll take you on anyway I have to!"

Kliff turned his head, his neck giving out an audible crack, "This should be good." Warren looked over at him.

"You don't have to stay for this. I don't want you to get hurt." Turning back to Violet, Warren stepped forwards.

"Enough talk. You wanted to fight, so let's fight!"

"Are you kidding? I'm watching this." Kliff said as he took a few steps back and leaned against the wall of a building. Warren nodded.

"Fine, suit yourself." Then, with a bellow, he turned and swung his foot squarely at Violet's face. Somewhat predictably, she held out a hand and he froze. Then, with a gentle push, Warren was sent crashing to the ground. Winded, he looked up at Kliff.

"This strategy may require finetuning."

Kliff supressed a laugh, "Call me old fashioned, but a pokemon could probably do the fighting for you." Warren shook his head as he staggered upright.

"No...I have to prove that I'm tough enough, not just that I can give orders." Violet was just staring at him, waiting for the next attack. Well, it wouldn't be that simple. Warren bent down and picked up the stone that Violet had hurled at Kliff. With a casual toss, it sent it spiralling towards Violets head. She batted it away with a lazy swipe, but that hadn't been the point. Taking advantage of the distraction, Warren aimed another boot. The Ralts switched her attention back to him, but not quite quickly enough. Both Pokémon and trainer were dealt glancing blows and sent staggering back. Warren looked up at Kliff.

"Now I'm getting somewhere!"

Kliff nodded, "So I see." This way was slightly more entertaining. He looked at Violet just in time to see her raise a hand, "Head's up." Warren looked up, just in time to be sent flying back, rolling head over heels. Shaking his head to try and clear the dizziness, he concentrated hard. He needed more of a distraction. Something to really confuse her. Kicking his foot into the ground, Warren sent a small cloud of ash and dust into the air, enveloping Violet. Warren grinned, the muttered under his breath,

"Warren, use Mega Kick!"

Despite the cruel nature of the action, Kliff felt slightly relieved to see the Ralts fly out of the dust and thump off of the ground a few feet from it.

"I'm sure he's crying on the inside..." Kliff muttered to himself. Warren, of course, was most definitely not crying on the inside. With a grin on his face, he stepped forwards towards the Ralts.

"Are we done yet?" Violet glared at him, but this time it was with an odd grin on her face - a mix of savagery and delight. She was enjoying this. Warren stepped forwards, but this time, Violet raised her hands and he was sent crashing to the ground once more by a wave of energy. He looked at Kliff, still just casually leaning against the wall.

"I bet this looks goddamn hilarious to you."

"Well..." Kliff began, "Yeah. I suppose help would be out of the question?" Warren snorted.

"I don't need your help." He stood up, then cried out as Violet threw him into the wall again. For a second, he lay there, panting, then looked over at Kliff.

"On the other hand, help me, for god's sake help me!

Kliff stood up from his wall, "Fine, fine." He unclipped Zabe's pokeball and dropped it to the ground. The Sableye appeared and imiddiately stared down Violet with a toothy grin,

"Night Shade, Zabe." With a black glint of his diamond eyes, Zabe fired two bolts of darkness at the Ralts, who was struck and pushed back, crashing into the opposite wall. Kliff looked at Warren,

"Shall I continue?" Warren stood up.

"I think that's enough for now. I need to do this myself to win her respect." That said, as Violet staggered forwards, she was looking pretty beaten up. With another flourish, she raised her hands, but this time, Warren remained standing. Leaning into the attack, he felt his cheeks begin to ripple back as the force of Confusion pulled him backwards. But, jaw set, Warren raised his foot and stepped forwards. Violet grimaced and intensified the attack, but the trainer made another step, and then another. Dropping his hand to his belt, Warren pulled out Violet's Pokéball. If he could just return her, it might be enough to prove that he was tougher than she thought. Another step. This one was harder, the attack increasing in strength the loser he got. Now he was just a foot away, but it was like trying to push through a brick wall. Reaching forwards with the Pokéball, Warren focused all of his strength into one arm, reaching forwards inch by inch until the ball brushed against the Ralt's green helmet. With a flash of red light, Violet was pulled inside and Warren collapsed, exhausted, on the ground. After a few seconds of panting, he rooled over to properly face Kliff.

"Thanks. I mean it. We might actually begin to get along now." He looked over at the Sableye.

"And your, um, Zabe, he's pretty tough as well."

"Like carrots and peas" Kliff said with a laugh, "Glad you think so. I was probably cheating by using a dark ghost on a Ralts but whatever." Warren shrugged.

"Winning is winning. Cheating is just another way of saying your opponent is bitter."

"I've... never thought of it that way." Kliff said as he raised an eyebrow, "Hm, well, we should probably go back to the centre. I miss my shirt." Warren grinned.

"Leaving so soon?

"It breaks my heart to say it, but yes." Kliff joked, "Besides, I've got plans today. Namely the Gym." He turned to leave,

"I'll see you later, I guess." With one final gesture, Kliff made his way back to the Pokemon Centre.

[OOC: Oh, and, the game =D]

Yay, I has internets!!!! :D

@ILAYM - Sorry I took so long to reply, but with my lack of internet it made it impossible. My phone isn't good enough to load full pages, so I could only reply to a thread, not read it if that makes sense?

Anyway, glad to see Warren managed to convince most of his team to come back to him. Can't wait to see how he tries to get Violet back!

@ILAYM & Zeph - Great Joint Post! Really unique way for Warren to earn Violet's respect. Will be interesting to see if their relationship dynamic is changed by this.

Since its been a while...
Congratulations Sableye (Zabe) grew to Level 16
