Who do you prefer? Which Punk rock giant is the best? Why do you prefer one over the other and what are your favorite songs and albums by the two bands?

My vote goes for Blink, in my opinion they are far superior and are better lyricists, vocalists and overall just a better band. I have to say that Blink are my favorite band and Mark and Tom are quite possibly the funniest people on the planet :) Blink's videos are legendary and they set the 90's apart by giving something different and much better than the Backstreet Boys etc. I have to admit that a like Green Days music somewhat especially Dookie, and of course American Idiot was full of catchy, rocky tunes. However for me it is quite easily Blink 182.

My favorite song: Not Now, A New Hope, Dammit & Go!
My favorite Album: Dude Ranch & Blink 182
    My favorite Video: First Date

What are your opinions on the matter? Give reasons and your fave song(s) and Albums. You can also put your best video as well :D

I'm thinking neither, but if I had to choose, Blink 182 without question.

Green Day are the better lyricists. It's kinda obvious. Green Day has proved that they can write songs that have emotional and important meaning like American Idiot/21st Century Breakdown and still write some of the best punk rock songs ever, like their old stuff. I know it's personal opinion, and that's cool, but come on..

I disagree with you saying Green Day are better lyricists, Blink's songs can relate to everybody and some of the lyrics in there songs are unbelievable. I'm not saying Green Day are worse but I find Blinks energy and humor gives them the edge. Most people don't think Blink are good lyricists because of Enema of The State and the Joke songs, but you are so wrong. Its all opinions though, and I'm pretty sure the majority of people agree with your ill-informed one.

Blink only because I hate Green Day more than anything.

Oh man, threads like this scare me. XD I hope we're all mature enough in here not to bash the bands or their fans...

    I agree with this.

I'm not gonna bash Blink though, I love them too. I was super excited when they announced they were getting back together on the Grammy's last year.

But (if it's not known yet) Green Day changed my life and I love them more than anything. They are my freaking heroes. So I guess I'm a little biased but my vote is obviously going to them. :P But for the people who say that Blink has songs that can relate to anyone but Green Day doesn't, you should go back and listen to their first three albums. Some of their best stuff came from the songs Billie Joe Armstrong wrote as a teenager and a lot of them talk about things that any one of us can relate to as a teenager now. With American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, their lyrics are definitely more "mature" I guess, and harder for people to relate to, but they are important topics. A lot of people seem not to realize that Green Day have been around a long time (longer than Blink 182, btw) and have a lot of stuff pre-American Idiot.

I'm not even going to get into the band members and their personalities because this thread, I assume, is mostly about the music. But the members of Green Day and their music made me who I am today. :) I'm not over exaggerating, I've been a fan of them for 5 years now, going on 6. They came into my life at a very influential time in my life and that's just what they did, they influenced me, in a good way. ;)

    @ Zirico:
Why are you listening to these American punk rock bands? Do you have no sense of patriotism!? D:
You're from Manchester, so your favourite genre should be 'Madchester' you should be listening to The Stone Roses or Happy Mondays.

    On Topic:
Even though I dislike Green Day a lot; they're one of the best selling bands so I'll have to say that they are better. I have never listened to Blink 182.

Blink were the punk Backstreet Boys, regardless of what "All The Small Things" said in the video.

Green Day had good music (especially the American Idiot album) and a message. Blink had...fangirls.

I also dislike most of Blink's members. Tom went to A3, and while the band makes some pretty kickass music (better than anything Blink made, IMO), he still has a big mouth and his ego rivals that of Kanye West's.

Travis is a fugly troll, yet inexplicably gets so many women it's crazy. Is he talented? Yes. Is he attractive? Hell no.

He also annoys me when he shows up in rap videos. I seriously am left scratching my head on that one. :|

And Green Day have been around for much longer than Blink have and are much more of a relevant band. Think about it; who does reunion tours for anything but money? Seriously?

    Spoiler:

The vocalist of Blink 182 annoys me with his whiney voice. I don't listen to much of either of the bands, but with Green Day I can tap my foot to it if for some reason I have to listen to it. Also, Green Day's first songs weren't all political, they were mostly just singing about getting wasted and things like that. Mind you, I'm not liking their latest stuff, but I've never listened to the album so I can't really judge. American Idiot was better than everybody makes it out to be. Blink on the other hand aren't really that good. Like some of the guitar is okay in I can't remember what song, but as a band I just can't get into them much.

Each has a good quality. I prefer neither, more so I like them equally. XD

This thread has turned out well :) For people who say Blink aren't Punk and judge them from the Joke songs and All the Small Things etc. need to listen to Dude Ranch and Self-titled because the lyrics and power of the songs in them is incredible.

I know it was a bit stupid of me to ask you to choose between these bands as Green Day have been around for a lot longer and are a Bigger band. However you have to agree that Blink grew pretty fast and imo if they hadn't of broken up for 5 years then I think they would be as big or bigger than Green Day. I think it can be seen that Blink made fast progress as can be seen when both these bands co-headlined the Pop Disaster tour in 2002. Plus people are forgeting that Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning sucked ass.

Stone Roses are crap apart from the first album imo. Madchester music just doesn't give me anything thing and i like Blink because its fast, funny, catchy, i can relate to it and its PUNK!
My Patriotism comes in the form of being a massive England and Manchester City fan :D

I vote Green Day as they don't just write about love and death, even though they maybe curse, they are trying to prove a point in something ~ Government,War,etc.
And Green Day have better lyrics. It relates to all of us. Green Day have also been together for 21 years now, so I'm sure Green Day are a lot more closer and a better band that Blink 182. Plus Billie-Joe Is Sooooo fit! :P
So Green Day are obviously better.
Favorite Song; Holiday / Minority / Good Riddance;Time Of Your Life
Favorite Album; American Idiot Or 21st Century breakdown or Dookie

They both have great music, though Green Day does get my vote because they always enjoy their songs and their songs show inspiration and enthusiasm. The band are great overall!

I think Green Day have catchier songs than Blink 182.
Also i think Blink 182 make the stupidist videos ever >< no offense Blink fans

Blink 182..If it is only for Carousel.

I'm not keen on "American Punk"...It shouldn't really be called punk anyway.

Punk is Sex Pistols, Ramones and The Clash.

It saddens me that blink's biggest selling song is "All The Small Things", when that isn't them at all. This thread attracted me because mainly I said the answer immediately, when really if I'd thought about it it would have probably taken me a while.

I am a huge fan of Green Day, and know almost all their songs even from way back in 1990, which was before I was even born. They've always been a great band and always will, and yes, they are great lyricists, but blink-182 are just generally better. The song "I Miss You" should really be blink's number one by far, as it makes All The Small Things seem like a blunder. Both bands have come a long way but even though Green Day has been far more determined and always seemed as though they've been together, their road has been far from smooth, and it's the downfall of such songs like "American Idiot", that whilst catchy was really nothing apart from bland popularity. My favourite song from that album is "Are We The Waiting", simply because it has a lot more feeling to it than some of the other songs, excluding "Jesus of Suburbia" and "Homecoming".

So, really, I deal out blink as the better of the two but only by a small margin, and I would rather refrain from choosing if anything. But if I had to, it would be blink.

Green Day for me. The old Green Day had some really good music, at least that's what I think. They may have slipped a little but I still listen to the music from their good old days.
