4th Gen Bug Catching Competition!

    Yeah I looked at the last 3 pages of threads and didn't see nothing on it so I figured Id make the thread for it.

    Basically what I'm attempting to do is to gather the information here on the competition. For instance what you get for winning, what it takes to win and stuff like that. This thread may be a epic FAIL but who knows.

    SO just post who you chose to keep as your pokemon and for what reason, what bug you caught and kept to try and win the competition, whether or not you won, and what you got for it.


    Oh and if anyone knows what days this competition is it would help. From what Ive gathered it seems to be on Saturdays, at least that's when it lets me do it. I'm not sure about the times either.

    What I've figured out so far:
    Saturdays is the competition
    You can enter it one time per Tuesday,Thursday, and Saturday.
    You get a shed bell (sp?) for not placing
    You get a sitrus berry for 3rd place
    You get a Everstone for 2nd place
    You get a firestone, sunstone for 1st place
    You seem to have to get the scyther or pinsir to win. Make sure its at least lvl 15 >.>
    Sooooo...
    Im in the competition. Ive chosen weepinbell as my partner in this go around, simply cause he knows sleep powder. Im currently decieding whether or not to keep the level 15 beedrill I caught or to use this lvl 13 butterfree I just caught...

    I lost the last one I did cause I had no idea what I was involved in.
    So Im hoping that this idea of the highest level being the winner, if not Ill be upset cause Im gonna keep the beedrill and not the butterfree...

    Im lost now. I didnt even come in 3rd. caterpie, weedle and then pinsir beat me.

    i've tried and managed to catch level 15 butterfree, but i still lost. ;A;
    i think the aspects that determines the score is the rarity and the pokemon's level.
     
    Restarted the game, cause I saved before I entered the competition. I went in with weepinbell again and caught a lvl 13 venonat, then a lvl 15 beedrill, I wandered around and ran from caterpies and kakunas and then he appeared.... PINSIR, he is lvl 13. lets see if its about the rariety or what. cause Ive caught him
    *UPDATE*
    It was a hard decision, but scyther appeared... I decieded to try and catch him, it was a tough battle but I caught him and chose him over pinsir, considering I like him better and he was a lvl 14. So we will see how it goes when this competition is over!

    I lost yet again. This time I lost to a scyther. I reckon it was level 15 or somthing, Im completely confused. Im gonna try this one last time.

    I won with a Pincer about two days ago. Got a Fire Stone.

    Ok so we figured out that you can get a firestone for first, you say you did it two days ago. so the competition is on thursday also?
     
    urm, i think the first place's prize is a sun stone? you can obtain fire-stone from bill's grandfather, i think. since i cannot find sun stone anywhere but the bug catching contest. xD

    Our threads are different from one another. Yours consist of guessing what's in the game before it was released and what people liked about the old contest and what they want in the new one. My thread consist of figuring out what you get for winning when it happens what wins and peoples stories of how they won or lost.
    Totally different threads and started for totally different reasons. So I don't see why this one would go bye bye :(

    I got second place with a level 13 Scyther. lol I love Scyther. Now for the question of how to evolve it...

    I'm going to enter it today and catch a Beedrill/Butterfree.

    Darn, I still need my National Dex. D: Where are you, Oak?
     
    Going to have to agree actually - would merge but the old thread was already from before HG/SS came out so it's mostly speculation there - now we actually know what it's like.

    It's pretty much the same as in GSC, although with different Pokemon and all after beating the Elite Four, so yay for that. I won early on with a level 14 Scyther - sometimes you could lose with that though - guess some luck is there with what your opponents get. (And the Pokemon's stats as well).

    Sun Stone prize changes the next time you win, I believe, to other stones, and it rotates through them each time you win, or something like that.

    Yeah I totally agree. It makes no sense how it all works, I think its completely random on how to win this thing. I finally just stop trying after losing with my scythers and pinsirs. Especially when I lose cause they have the same thing as them and I come in second or third.
    Also Ive noticed that the prizes are rotating as well and its random as to what you first get. I mean I was told to get the thunderstone from the tournament, but you get sunstone and some one else gets a firestone. The consistant thing is the shedbell if you dont place 1st 2nd or 3rd lol
     
    The Compe Ball has the same function as the Hyper Ball, so it's all not that bad.

    I've come first place in the competition constantly, and it's pretty easy: get rares, and don't hurt them while catching them.
    Make them sleep, and start throwing balls like a madman.

    Actually, ingame NPCs give you hints regarding how to win the competition (in moonspeak.)
