Tanks must be able to take a hard hit or two on their retrospective special or physical stronger defense whilst being able to hit hard back themselves with their retrospective special or physically stronger attack. (Basically what shirashi said)

The embodiment of a physical tank is Donphan.

The embodiment of a special tank is Ludicolo / Calm Mind Raikou.

Then youve got your Calm Mind Suicunes and Slowbros who can dual tank.

Meh i fail at definitions..

I'd disagree, as always :P I see donphan as a wall, strictly. The loads of Atk is nice, but its main function is to block attacks, not attack (unless you're running the CB set in which case things change ;)) Donphan can't really stand on its own very well like all tanks can. By that I mean stalling and beating down at the opponent and yeah...

Er, donphan CAN stand alone well, just it wouldn't stand a chance against other tanks...which was more what I was saying, should've explained that better.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "tank," so both of us are right in a sense :0 lol

Sorry a better example of a tank is probably Rhyperior. The main differnece between walls and tank as i see it, tanks actually have a reasonable or good base attack or Sp.Att stat, see Donphan and Suicune. Where as walls generally have a mediocre sp.att or att base stat, see Claydol and Skarmory.

._. That means Snorlax is a tank x-x;

Well yeah it is, as it can attack quite powerfully with Curse unlike wall Claydol, Skarmory etc. For example snorlax huge base attack along with Curse can tear unprepared teams apart. Unlike Skarmory and Claydol whom dont have a hope of doing that.

What im saying is that tanks can inflict large amounts damage (and have higher base att or sp.att) where as walls cant.

Snorlax actually is a tank AND special wall. I guess it's kind of both. Meh, definitions vary from place to place, person to person...maybe just listing all of them would be good I guess.

Here is a list of possible tanks.

(Attack/Defence)
Physical/Physical
-------------------
Rhyperior
Metgross
Tyranitar
CurseLax
Regirock

Physical/Special
-------------------
Snorlax
Gallade

Special/Special
-------------------
Gardevoir
Slowking
Mr Mime
Ludicolo
Regice

Special/Physical
-------------------
Slowbro
Magnezone
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

To me, a tank has always been something that could switch into fragile sweepers, take a hit or two, and deal a hard hitting blow.

CMCelebi / Cune may be added to your list Archer. It depends on whether you want to count them before or after a CM or 2.
