"But I'm not creative!"

Personally, back when I first joined PC, I was definitely not confident enough about anything I drew to show them to a group of people who were passionate about the subject. xD Nowadays I just don't really have enough finished bits to be able to post about, I guess? I work mainly in doodles and silly things.

But as someone said earlier, I definitely feel like I don't have the grounds to try and critique anybody's work if I haven't put my own work up to be critiqued.

However (and this is where I get long winded and hypothetical xD), I think the actual format of the forum itself, or the way things appear to be handled, just isn't creating opportunities for discussion. The way it looks to me right now, each "gallery" is a self contained little unit where someone posts their work and others critique. Which is fine, but it restricts the interaction to "artist" and "viewer", I think.

Baaaasically, what I mean is that in most artistically inclined communities I've been a part of, a key feature to motivate people isn't just the ability to share their work, but to actually collaborate with and inspire each other? It's weird because art always seems like such a solitary/introspective thing, but so does writing, and my favourite place on PC is still the RP section for a reason.

There are tons of ways that I know of that people collaborate artistically though. I've seen partnerships where one person does lineart and another person does the colour; giving and filling prompts and ideas etc (which I like because I get the urge to draw the silliest things); collaborations between writers and artists where one of them bases their work on the others etc.

Tl;dr The A&D section just seems a bit too static and solitary to me, and I feel like there are ways that the artists could potentially actively influence/inspire each other instead of simply working by themselves and sharing the results.

All of this is not to say I don't think the A&D forum isn't absolutely fantastic! I visited he art resource thread and was actually blown away by the sheer amount of quality resources and already have a few bookmarked. ^^ It's just that for such a creative forum it doesn't seem to spark my imagination much.

The type-change competition that you had a while back was pretty cool though. If I hadn't been too busy I might have participated!

Thanks for the input! I now have a very good idea how to improve upon the point you made about A&D being a solitary environment. I will implement this when I'm not so busy, or tired :/

I don't go there very often because of...the reason stated in the title of this thread ><

I go over there occasionally when I want to request someone make a sig and/or avatar for me. I'd like to get better at it myself so that I can return the courtesy and start making them for other people. Someday...

The reason why I don't have a gallery in Art and Design is that whenever I attempt to draw something, it always seems to come out as a impractical military vehicle. For example: a helicopter with turrets attached to the main rotor. Or a tank with too many turrets.
