The rival in the newer best wishes sieries I feel has been great in terms of bing a charicter who draws you into the show with aggrevation. However I hate his additude and would love to see nothing less than him getting his ___ kicked by someone like Paul and his more original "out of my way" style, even someone like Gary or Drew would do.

but when it comes to what he's like I'd love to face him in my white version so I could make him go crying home with his lame dreams of meeting that wannabe champion. I swear I was so used to fighting a nicely balanced champion that when Alder came I was severely dissapointed. Steven, wallace, cynthia and lance are the best!

I guess since I only watch the english version of the show I'm probably behind by months when it comes to their rivalry, but is it just me or do all people they seem to encounter happen to be mean and rude? The newest episode I watched had this girl with a beartic who stole their breakfast, taunted them to battles and laughed in their faces when she won. What is with that trend?

This attitude and aggravating Ash is nothing new. This has been going on since the inception of the anime and will continue in the future for sure. At some point he is bond to be knocked down a peg. He has already tied with Ash(although he said he was experimenting). I don't want to spoil what happens in the future if you want to know go to the spoilers episode considering Don Tournament. At some point all the snobbish rivals get what's coming to them. Gary had Mewtwo beat the living hell out of his team at Viridian, then loses in the League in the round before Ash. Paul gets pwnt by Cynthia Garchomp, and then proceeds to lose to Brandon(whom Ash has previously beat). So like I said there is a point where they take the rivals and bring them down to earth.

As for the rivals being mean and rude that is on a rival by rival basis. I mean Stephan really isn't either, he is just eager to battle. Luke if we see him as a Rival is polite, and friendly far from rude. Bianca is kind of rude(maybe not the most well mannered person), but far from mean. It's rivals like Burgundy who disdains Cilan, Georgia who has something against Iris cause she is a Dragon Buster apparently, then Trip who is generally well mannered but smug and a jerk to Ash calling him a hillbilly to a certain extent cause he is from Kanto. So I really don't see this as a trend as much as certain characters have distinct personalities some are nice some aren't.

I agree with you, Kenshin. Luke is sort of friendly in comparison to other rivals, even though Trip did call Ash a hillbilly and even referred to Kanto as the boonies, but Trip sometimes gave advice like when Oshawott couldn't control Aqua Jet at first because Oshawott had his eyes closed. Trip is very strong despite just starting his journey, he caught six Pokemon by the time more than 30 episodes passed. Trip's Snivy was strong, defeating Pikachu because Pikachu had no electric power and Snivy even evolved by the time Ash met up with him again. Bianca was OK and Burgundy and Georgia totally dissed their rivals. Stephan proved to be strong too as his Blitzle evolved before Ash met up with him again plus Stephan is voiced by the Pokemon voice acting veteran Darren Dunstan. It was good to see him voicing a Pokemon character again.

Actually I am pretty sure he caught more then six(at the very least six) by BW010 when they got to the Battle Club fight. My guess is he probably has 30+ going back to say Gary. And unlike Paul he doesn't actually treat his pokemon like garbage. I think it's more of Trip being annoyed by Ash personality then actually just having a sort of hatred towards him like it kind of seems like with Burgundy. He is from what I remember courteous to people like Cilan, Professor Juniper, and so on. And just for reference the girl with Beartic is called Georgia.

I didn't like Trip's attitude towards Ash because judging by his attitude, he might hate people from other regions. But I do like his character better than Paul's.

But I actualy like paul more for that exact reason that he doesn't hate people from other regions, he's just grumpy overall which I can respect a little better.

I like Trip's character a whole lot better then bland boring Paul,Trip have a fresher new personality then Paul.
