5th Gen BW1 Rival music references?

Ah, gen 5, still my favorite. But on to the topic. I was going back through the soundtrack, and was listening to Cheren/Bianca Rival Battle music. It seems as if the song is a reference. First off, the beginning has a part that sounds very similar to Mario Kart's Item Box sound. And, after the introduction part of the song, the melody sounds IDENTICAL to Super Mario Bros. (NES)'s Underwater song. Here are links to both songs.

There is another music track from the Mario series that the BW rival theme sounds similar to, and it's the Mario Bros. battle theme from Bowser's Inside Story.

I was thinking exactly the same thing! When I first heard of the Rival Theme 5 years ago, I was like isn't this similar with BiS' Battle Theme? x'D

At this point this song just seems like a Pokémon-styled Mario song. Which, in multiple cases, is kinda true. :P
