So Nintendo is shutting down teh WiFi for these games, and many more.

This sucks as I havent been able to experience any of it yet, Dream World, Entralink.

...so does this mean the gen 5 GTS is going? Darn, I was hoping to get some use out of it but never got around to it.

Well, Nintendo already discontinued the DW service, so you already missed the boat on that one. But I follow you with that it's depressing. Heck, Gen VI started only 5 months ago, and they're already cutting off the last Generation. I still intended to use Generation V for some online functions... Seems we're on a timer, eh?

Since XY came out, I felt that gen five in particularly felt dead. No real way to get a decent supply of berries anymore, certain berries unobtainable without cheating and no more wifi events. This is pretty sad, but it was to be expected especially with Nintendo's lose last year.

Question. Will we still be able to transfer Pokémon from games such as Soul Silver and Diamond to B/W/B2/W2? I do use this feature a lot but I never really knew if it was a wifi feature, and I still need to start my Soul Silver.

It's a local wireless feature, so no worries there. It should still work for you.

That doesn't use WiFi, so you should be good. That uses DS Download Play which is a LAN thing, I think. I was able to transfer things just fine without my old DS being connected to WiFi.

I personally don't mind them closing it down. I never really used the online features because of how it was WEP and not WPA2. Made it hard to access because of security stuffs. I did play MarioKart DS online a couple of times back in the day and did a little - but not much - GTSing to get rare things like female Combee and Munchlax. But I think the DS WiFi is past its prime due to the glory of the 3DS.

It's kind of sad, but not a huge deal since the 3DS has so many awesome things. Going back would be hard xD

I'm pretty bummed, because I'm replaying through all of the old games right now. I'm on HeartGold at the moment. I actually never even started Black 2! Super bummed.

I'm really just hoping PokeCheck will still work. I'm not sure if it will, but that's how I transfer my Pokemon from game to game (so much easier than the other Transfer methods, and then I don't lose them from their original cart). I read that it might, since technically it connects to a clone GTS server and not Nintendo's. Fingers crossed...

Does that mean that the GTS is shut down?

Yeah it raises questions for the Pokegen and Pokecheck Pokemon users. I guess they're on a time limit eh? Until a new 3DS method is found out.

Since it uses the GTS, I'm sure it's going to be gone, unfortunately. This is how I clone my Pokemon for my shop and upload to check my RNG'd Pokemon, so this basically ruins my shop and puts me out of business.

Since my DS never recognized my wi-fi, I didn't really use these services anyway. While it will be saddening for those who use Pokecheck a lot, I guess it was probably outdated anyway ever since X and Y were released and they are basically all encouraging us to upgrade to a 3DS and involve ourselves more in 6th Gen wi-fi features.

In fact, we are basically moving forward. 3DS has newer technology used in wi-fi so that's where we're basically heading now.

That kinda sucks, since Gen V will be a lot less played now =/

I still conducted a lot of trades through the GTS and trading with people on this forum. Well I guess they wanted XY to get more popular so everyone can be familiar with the newer generation, but this is kinda early for to shut down the Wi-Fi already, imo :T

This topic is already being discussed in the Video Games section. Seeing as it effects more than Pokemon, the discussion should continue in that section.
