Can we have a post size to signature ratio rule?

    Hey.

I keep seeing signatures that are larger than post text. I think signatures should only be used if the actual post is at least equal to the message size.

One of the points of a signature is to identify people. If the post is long, you can see the identity of the person at both the top and bottom.

If however we have a small post, it fits on the screen entirely - you can see the username so you don't need it. Big signatures are also a waste of time to scroll past...

I think it should be a rule to turn your sig off if your message is smaller than your signature. You can check if it is smaller by checking 'preview'. This post has the signature on because my post is larger than the signature.

An example of what I mean is attached and how to turn signatures off is attached below. When signatures really get out of hand.

    I think that's really a bad idea.

I mean not all of our post has to be 50% larger than out signature, I mean almost 83% of PC Members type really long if the thread they post in is like interesting,
If the staffs do at what you said this will happen:

    Thread Title: ^The One Above

    Post: ^The One Above
    < The One not Above
    ^The One who is above
<The one who is not above
^The One who is above <
<The One who is not above <
    ^The One not below <
    <The One below ^

    Signature: Kinda like mine.

Then if that happens, kinda looks like SPAM isn't it? and it will take the minimum of about 1 minute (For signature kinda like mine), 10 Seconds (For signature with just one sentence) or 3 minutes (For big signatures banner sized: 400 x 150 +)

Let's say that FTiP isn't included, then how about the Pokemon General:

    Thread Title: ~Pokemon Claim Thread~

Post: May I claim Magikarp please? Thank you Cowrie.
    [filler]
    [filler]
    [filler]
    [filler]
    [filler]
    [filler]
    [filler]

    Signature: Kinda like mine.

Then that would really give Staffs headaches, It is hard enough for Staffs to warn with the violators for the 4 word rule, what else if the rule has been added?

And If yousaid to turn off your signature if you don't wanna get caugt, then what's the point of the signature?

    Seriously, I think it's a bad idea.

I don't think it's a good idea, either. I don't see a real point in it. I like to look at signatures all the time, just too look at them-- not only to identify the person. And it's a REAL waste of time turning your signature on and off when your posts will be different lengths each time you post. And it takes like, what, two, three seconds scrolling past a signature onto the next post? Yeah, real time-waster.

If long signatures bother you, turn signatures off. It's the simplest solution.

It doesn't have to be enforced, just encouraged, like guidelines. Rule was perhaps the wrong word. Large signature creates a high visual noise to signal ratio. Ryouki, I don't understand your argument.

Akina, I don't understand how it wastes time at all. After writing my post the first thing I do is preview to proof read it. If it looks correct, I press submit. The only change to this routine is to untick 'show my signature' if my message is too small. You have to scroll downwards to get to the submit button anyway.

It isn't asking people to turn off signatures permanently, only if they can't write enough to make it at least larger than your post. IMHO posts are more important than signatures.

Sammi, I had no idea you could turn them off on this forum software. Thank-you.

They're off now. I will turn off my signature if my post is too small to warrant it - for your benefit :)
