6th Gen Changes in Models for Pokemon?

Models, unlike sprites, are real hard work. With the release date in November, I can see them having time for new animations for battles and perhaps new models of Hoenn Pokémon, but I'm not expecting much more. Something like the transition from BW to B2W2 would do good. Because, now they'll have a friggin 719 models excluding megas and formes to renovate. 493 or 386 were easier number, don't you think?

I don't see GF replacing any of the models unless they had a glaring flaw (make wailord bigger pls), so the most I'm expecting that they will do is fix or smoothen out any animations. I'm actually hoping that they fix some of the animations, mostly the idle animations though. For specifics, I really want Tropius and a lot of the other flying Pokemon to get some re-done idle animations. I'm aware that most of the flying Pokemon are supposed to be airborne because of Sky Battles, but still, Tropius' idle animation looks fairly odd.

I agree. When I made this thread I had the idleness of the models in mind. It bothered me that some of the models were more idle than the sprites in Gen V were.

Oh, most definitely. Skarmory and Xatu instantly come to mind. In Gen V, they actually had some pretty active animation in that they were actually moving, for the lack of a better word. In Gen VI, it's as if they're a stationary model with some fluttering of the wings, of course I'm over exaggerating this slightly.

It did feel to me as if Skarmory (I have yet to use Xatu in XY...) and some others were simply flapping their wings (Charizard too but it wasn't as idle as Skarmory). Speaking of Charizard i disliked the animation of it's Mega X. It moved like a kite...

I honestly have no idea. Either way, it's likely that they will be updating the battle field anyway, so I think it could really go both ways. The release date is November, yeah, but we honestly have no idea how long they have been working on these. However, would they really have had time to create 2 different models for each Pokemon? Would they really add something like that if they had to develop both XY & ORAS?

I actually thought Charizard's idle animation was fine. Sure, he could have needed something else, but at least he was flapping his wings "fully". Charizard-X is a completely kite though, I have to agree with that.

Anyways, here is Xatu's idle animation. The thing is not even flapping it's wings.

I don't think they'll be revamping models this time around, they take much more work than the old sprites plus with 719 Pokemon it's surely gonna be hard. I know that in Black 2 & White 2 all the idle sprite animations were left unchanged except for the Unova starters and their evolutions, so I guess it was just giving the starters special treatment in that case.

They wouldn't need to necessary make entirely new models. They could enhance the existing models and give them better shading, change the way they move, and other things.

I think I can see where you're going here, I know that if you leave the battle scene idle for a while the Pokemon may sometimes do a little animation (such as Roserade smelling its flowers or Kecleon slightly twitching its head) so maybe I can see that getting improved upon in the remakes.

The only time I'll see them alter some of of the models is after one generation. To perhaps make them more realistic with more to-scale sizes. (Can't imagine wailord)

That'll be cool to see, but Wailord compared to Pokemon like Shaymin (land forme) and especially Joltik will be a dot...or a pixel (at most?)

Most developers make the jump to 3D because 3D models are easier to work with and are more cost-efficient...sprites are actually very hard work and even more time-consuming than 3D models (there's a reason why sprite-based games are becoming less and less common nowadays).

Now, I don't expect full model revamps (I honestly think there's no need), but if they were able to spruce up the animations for a few Pokémon for B2W2 (the starters quickly come to mind), I wouldn't be surprised if a few Pokémon got their animations altered a bit for ORAS.

I agree full model changes would be too much. All they need to do (imo) is fix the shading (some of the shadows seem off on some of the Pokemon) and their animations in battle...

Maybe they could make the animations different this time around since XY had a kinda lifeless animation imo. But I don't know if that would be changed considering it may contribute to the lag like it did in XY. So, I don't know.

I think it's possible to do both (fix both the lag and make them more animated). Also by pushing the models they'll contribute to making the final game of the generation better like how Pt contributed to HgSs and it in trun contributed to making BW better and in turn doing the same for B2W2.

I guess XY was like a beta testing phase for the 3D effect, see if people like it and any problems arise I think. If so, then I know they would be fixed in ORAS and the 3rd Version so I'm kinda excited to see them again! :33

Yeah, just like parts of the light house in HgSs was a testing ground for the 3D style that will be utilized in Gen V.

They will not renovate models, they already made the highest-fidelity ones they can for X/Y. They will likely change the animations if anything.
Personally I dont think they need to be changed.
Come to think of it, if they do change any, it will likely be Kyogre/Groudon/Rayquaza.
