Simple, discuss all the characters that are currently around and all the ones that have left. IF THIS TURNS INTO A MISTY BAWWW-FEST SOMEONE'S GETTING SHANKED!

So, since this is my thread and I started it, I say the first character.

    Um...

    Spoiler:

Yeah, I think Paul's an interesting character. Sure, he's a little 1 Dimensional, then again, so is everybody, but still enjoyable to watch. Although, he does think he's perfect and never makes a mistake. Whenever he wins, he says it's the trainer's fault that his Pokemon lost, yet when he himself loses, he just blames his Pokemon.

    So, yeah, DISCUSS AWAY!

I like Paul as a character. My gripe with him is that, no matter how many times a Trainer more powerful than him beats the ever-loving daylights out of him, and tells him, "To win, treat your Pokemon better blah blah blah", he doesn't. I'd appreciate him more if he got the message and stopped being a total douche to all of his Pokemon. I respect how he battles, just not how he treats his Pokemon when they lose. I understand he doesn't want to spoil them, but he takes it way too far.

I love this little douche so much. His Pokémon are alright and I love his voice actor and, well, his voice I guess. It's obvious that he's going to lose to Ash in the Sinnoh League so I can't wait to see his expression when he loses. He's a lot more interesting than his brother but that's too be expected since Paul would be better developed. Since he's Ash's rival and all I guess.

25.5 posts is the over-under in this thread kids. I'll take the over though I was always raised to take the under.

BAWWWW MISTY I LOVE YOUUUUU I'm just kidding. I don't really like Misty that much.

I reason I love him, even though he's a douche who blames his failures on his Pokemon (or as people above me suggested that he blames the trainer when he wins), is because he has so many strategies up his sleeve, something that Ash doesn't really use well in battles.

Plus, his Pokemon are superb. Defeating 3 Pokemon straight with just one Ringuma?

Shinji/Paul has one problem: He works best to play off of Satoshi/Ash, because their ideologies in training and battling are so different. Without having that two-sides-of-the-same-coin thing, it won't be as entertaining to watch. Jun/Barry is kind of like an in-between Satoshi and Shinji, so even though he's ALWAYS entertaining and hilarious, he won't have the same dynamic as they do. Brock is a lifeless soul posing as a side kick, and Dawn does contests.

That said, he is the best rival the anime has ever seen, if only because he shows up so often. Gary rarely showed up (being completely absent in Orange, Hoenn except for the last episode that took place in Kanto, and rarely seen in Kanto and Johto and Sinnoh), and the contest rivals have always had a different dynamic.

The one thing we haven't seen is Paul have a battle with someone that was a challenge. We all knew he'd win the full battle with Ash, he knew what Pokemon that Ash was going to use. We knew Cynthia and Brnadon would wipe the floor with hmi...because they're the Champion and Battle Pyramid King, respectively. I want him to have a battle with a trainer, not a champ, with a team that at least he doesn't know the members of in advance.

**I'd also like it if every bit of hax didn't play in his favor. Activating Guts due to Pikachu's Static? Pikachu getting burned due to Magmortar? One of Ash's Pokemon flinching? COME ON, it was ridiculous**

Paul isnt all that bad, hes a real jerk to his pokemon and all but he still has a good sense for battle. It can be slightly amusing sometimes to see a character like him here and there.

Yeah, this is getting to be a tiny bit annoying and repetitive now. On the one hand, good for him for sticking to his guns...but on the other, he even ignored the advice of the Pokémon Champion, who regularly kicks the Elite Four's butts on the tellybox and swept his entire team with just a Garchomp. -.-

That being said, I can actually picture the universe breaking as a result of Paul patting his Electabuzz on the head or something equally as affectionate. So maybe in reality he's doing us all a favour by being a douche. XD

There's a subtle hint that his behavior did change due to his battle with Brnadon. You didn't see him trash talk Honchkrow or Weavile when they got KOed in the full battle. Weavile performed especially poorly.

You know, there is such a thing as cursing them offscreen. Of course, we don't have anything to suggest that yet, but still.

Actually, the part involving his changing even slightly in regards to Brandon when he didn't change at all with Cynthia implies that Brandon might actually be far stronger than Cynthia.

It's funny how some common things change with your perspective. The release option in the PC was never an issue in the games. If that Pokémon didn't match your target for IV and stuff you could just say a gentle Bye-bye and move on. But in one of the first scenes of Shinji, the one that he releases 2 Starly he caught to keep the best of them, this is shown as a VILLANIOUS thing!!! "How can you treat a Pokémon like that blah blah blah!?"

IMO, Shinji is a strong character, whose journey is sometimes more valuable than Satoshi's (in number of victories). I would never do my training his way, but I admit that his Pokémon are that tough-to-beat due to his hard work. He's not evil at all. (I just feel sorry for any Chimchar who just can't get a real training like his.)

Also, losing to the same man who defeated his brother and made him give up training (I kinda want to know more about this - there's no way Reiji would have just gone O WELL BETTER DO SOMETHING ELSE over one loss, surely?) would probably have more of an impact on Shinji than losing to the champion, who has been shown to defeat members of the E4 on the television. (And Shinji himself told her that he never won at any of the Elite Four Leagues he's competed in, so I don't suppose he took the loss as sorely).

As for the 'he's not evil' comment from iLaxbe!...he can be sometimes. Maybe not out-and-out evil, but certainly heartless. We all in our games release the Pokémon who we don't want any more (or leave them in the PC to rot, which to me is worse >_>), but we don't shout at them or tell them they're 'worthless' when they don't perform as we expect. Shinji can also be rather narrow-minded in his training - he sometimes tells his Pokémon that they're doing X, Y or Z wrong, but doesn't offer them any solutions. I suppose at least Satoshi tries to work out their problems?

idk. I just find Shinji more interesting. XD And his Torterra has a nice characterisation too. :3 ♥

Why do you think such a thing?
