*click* Video Game Removed

I know about that. My point is that they didn't make the genre though, like Street Fighter 2 did, they just set a questionable standard for it, so I didn't feel it was fair to name it. It's a lot more like Super Mario Bros' influence with platformers (as in, positive influence), and is also still the undisputed king of the genre.

Remove games that are universally loved and near-revolutionary because you think they're overrated? Why?

Party a case of 'stop liking what I don't like' and partly because it would be interesting to see what games take their place.

I'm not trying to say they're the best at what they do, nor are they so good that they make other developers want to emulate them and spin-off from what they did right, if that were the case I would have posted Everquest for MMO and maybe Soldier of Fortune or Medal of Honor for FPS. In the cases of Everquest, Soldier of Fortune, Street Fighter, and Mario, the respective genres were inspired by the games and didn't just copypasta the formula with their own added flair, but instead took a look at what the games did right and tried to incorporate it into their own ideas. At their base, you can feel the Mario or SoF in them, but you are definitely playing a different game.

In the case of WoW and Call of Duty, it's because they sell better than any games in their respective genres (and outside, really), not because people necessarily feel that they're the best or because they actually are, that developers copypasta the formulas and add their own flair to them. I wouldn't say they're standards in the sense that they are so revolutionary in terms of gameplay (and presentation) that developers want to build off of it as they are such a stamp in history in terms of sales that developers want to do what they did to generate revenue, trying to make their games like them without making the games themselves. As such, they are revolutionary and they have influenced an incredible number of games in their respective genres, just not necessarily for the better.

And I'm not trying to say that either. Haha, I agree with you. It's because CoD and WoW set a bad standard for their respective genres that I felt it was unfair to mention SF alongside them, is all. (and yes, I know you didn't say SF shouldn't have existed. :P)

Ah, sorry about that, I really should have taken more care in differentiating :P

Their predecessors will take their place as the best games ever made (FFVI, ALttP, etc), based on the flame wars between both sides of their respective fanbases, if you removed either of those games. I'm pretty sure you'll feel the same about those games too if they did never exist.

Personally I would remove the game I would remove this the lego building game Minecraft. Sorry Guys but I find this game a little over rated and Boring. If you like this game good for you.
If that's the case, why would you delete it from existence? I mean, that's pretty drastic for a game you just kinda don't like.
