I was going to attempt proving your point by going:
"<sarcasm "Tasteless-kind"> Of course it makes you look like an arse! </sarcasm>"
But, that would be pointless.
Your efforts will be remembered. *salutes*
The reason sarcasm fails over the internet is due to the fact that what makes a statement sarcastic is the tone and emphasis used when you make the statement, and there is no good way to mimic these two components over the internet Moreover, most people on the internet are a tad naive and don't understand sarcasm and irony.
<sarcasm 'false-kind'> You are very wise. </sarcasm>
See? It still makes me look like a dumbass.
Exactly. Not to mention that by stating that you're being sarcastic somewhat nullifies the sarcasm.
Though istead of saying "<sarcasm 'false-kind'> You are very wise. </sarcasm>", I'd go with something like "Well aren't you smart? >.>"
I was going to go with the whole;
"You are soooo wise. Tutor me? ^.^"
Although, that doesn't seem very sarcastic. Dang, I'm terrible with sarcasm.
That statement makes it seem like you're actually thanking me XD
You'll get the hang of it, it just gets way too complicated when used on the internet.
If only there were a better way of conveying sarcasm over the Internet. Unfortunately, appending "</sarcasm>" or similar to a post makes you look like an arse.
Surely the whole process of being sarcastic does that anyway though?
Unless used in moderation and at the right time only, then yeah, I guess. =/
The right time being in jest among friends or just light hearted of course ;]
