How did you get to become friends with them?

That's not always necessaily the case.

Some people you can have nothing in common with.

Yeah. Someone who can really, really annoy me at first will talk to me (or vice versa) and we hit it off when neither of us thought we would.

Or if we literally can't stand each other, one of us will do something stupid enough to merit an apology and friendship starts with that--idk, there's plenty of ways.

edit: Also, don't you have friends you have nothing in common with? I have plenty and some of them are my closest friends. XD;

I don't know, it would be kinda weird being friends with someone who I had nothing in common with.. I mean it would be okay if the things they liked I didn't mind, but if they liked things I hated, then I wouldn't want to be friends with them. XD;

Actually, I have at least one thing in common with all the people I classify as real friends?

... I think.

One of my best friends from when I was a kid has almost nothing in common with me anymore. We both liked Pokémon but she's since grown out of it. The only thing I can really think of that we can both related to is the fact that we went to school together for 3 years and are the same age. She doesn't even live near me and we rarely get to talk, but when we do visit each other it's like no time has passed and we're almost as close as friends can get.

She likes a few things I can't stand and I'm certain it's the other way around too. Doesn't mean friendship isn't possible. :O

Well it depends, I mean, I hate it if people drink/smoke whatever. I wouldn't really want to be friends with people who actually enjoyed doing that kind of stuff. I've pretty much stopped being friends with most people because they go out and enjoy getting smashed for a living. :<

That's probably one reason why I wouldn't be friends with someone.

:( Most of my friends have never been like that, but I had a few friends (not close mind you, haha) who smoked pot and got drunk all the time in high school. They were still friends and I enjoyed hanging out with them in class and whatnot, but we weren't close. :/

idk, I don't think something like conflicting values should necessarily block a friendship; just talk about other things when you're around each other.

Friendship may not be possible for people that insult you... sometimes.

Um lesse... friendship with Ray? Yeah, nawt possible.

Too bad that's all they talked about. XD; Like what they were going to do on the weekend, who would buy the alcohol or provide it and other... things. :x

And I was just the lost little girl who wanted to stay at home and watch anime/play games all night. XD;

I couldn't relate to them. I mean, at first, I got along great with them and that's how we first became friends, but people change and I didn't change with them. D;

Quite a lot of my friends drink and smoke… I don't like either but I came to accept that part of them. I mean they accepted my cynicism.

@Forever: ...one of my better friends in elementary school was someone I used to make fun of. :'DD; *was a mean kid, haha*

@Closer: That's fair enough then. D: I've lost friends to things like that before too. Friendship is more about enjoying your time together than anything else, to me. And if you can't do that, it's usually not worth it.

I guess it was different for me, since my friends couldn't accept I didn't like to drink or smoke and usually they wouldn't invite me out with them. :<

Not like I would accept, but the thought counts. ;-;

talking about disliking people, back in high school, I've never really liked some of the people in my class but around year 11 I started to like them since they weren't be a bit jerkish any more or anything

D: Yeah, that sucks. If it helps any, they probably knew you weren't into that kind of stuff and maybe were trying to save you the trouble of having to turn them down time and time again.

I still have never understood the appeal in getting totally smashed or high. 8/ I like remembering what I do all the time, kthx.

Yeah but why did you insult them?

Because like... some people insult other-- oh, that's bullies.

:( Everyone insulted this poor kid. I just kind of... went along with everyone. D: Eventually I got to know him and stood up for him and whatnot, but before that I was so mean. Haha, I felt awful afterwards. But yeah, I guess I bullied him at first.

... what did the kid do to get insulted? XD;

You know what, I don't even remember anymore. Nor do I remember wtf I made fun of him for. :|

Maybe his name or something. I remember clearly we called him Martha Chainsaw and I think it was because none of us could pronounce his last name, which was French. XD;
