I need a New Hardrive

I am running out of space on my system and I have decided to buy a new hardrive, what is the best make? Well I am considering getting a seagate though.:surprised

Seagate is alright, but I personally use Maxtor for my desktop PC.

Speaking of hard drives, I really should get another one for the windows machine so I can separate the Windows main partition and the fileserver data. What do you guys think would be better, 40GB or 60GB?

Drive prices are down for the holiday season... I'd suggest you go full out and grab yourself a 100+ GBer.

I'd like a 64 MB compact flash card for my PDA. I'd also like a new PDA (So Pocket Gameboy will work. :p).

Seeing as some PDAs are going to be quite expansive (not including the Palm LifeDrive) I don't see need of cards unless you just want the extra storage. How much space does your current PDA have, anyway?

4000 Kilo Bytes.
4 Mega Bytes

I just wanted it to sound big. :( :p

And on CF I have 32 MB.

128 megs of RAM is impossible to work with if you like having, say, two programs open at a time. <_< Seriously. o_o; We just upgraded to 256 and the difference is immense. I mean, anything above that and it probably depends on your processor more heavily as well in terms of speed (ignore that--I've no idea what I'm on about now XD) but if you've got such a small amount of RAM, any more is bound to speed up the system. Or at least make it work decently--especially with the larger programs like Photoshop. :o

With the hard drive prices, Greg, if drive prices dropped over here I'd have a nice drive for my Mac mini right now.

Great, I've got only 6 GB on my 40 GB hard drive. Any suggestions on an externalhard drive?
Best Buy had some nice externals (200+ GB or so) for about $150.

<3 yummy

I have 256 MB Ram with a 2.0 GHz Processor (Single core). It's quite fast.

When I was using the Half Life map editor on my old computer I had 340 MB and it'd crap up a bit. When I used it upon getting my upgrade it worked great. :p

Right now, Vista is hard to call, there is going to be about 5 versions of it. I'm really questioning whether I should get a new computer now or wait as mine is just BARELY adquate for gaming as it is.

Get a new one now and you'll probably have to turn around and buy another new one for Vista. If you're a gamer, I'd just upgrade to what is needed and wait. If not, then just wait.

If I do get Vista, I hope it has Classic mode without Aero. Otherwise, I'm tossing it and going back to XP.

I run Linux, so I don't have those problems... yet. It worse comes to worse, though, I'll just run XFCE or Fluxbox.

Your right Kaizer, just found that out today, then there will be the Media Player-Less versions...when will it end, the pain of Vista?

My brother reckons, some day, there will be an exodus to Linux. :p

Microsoft makes more and more crap each day. My brother who does IT stuff at a high school said that until he is forced to, he will not install Vista on any of the computers.

Vista is big trouble for people with crappy computers. I mean, it will probably require alot of space and it needs a 3D card because of various features.

Isn't that the fault of some European judgment? I seem to remember there being a non-WMP version of WinXP being released in Europe.

*Checks Google*

Yup. Here's an article about it:

If you want my opinion, I honestly think the European Commission should leave MS alone. I mean, it's not like they're FORCED to use WMP. There's always Winamp or VideoLAN Client.

I've got a question. I'm already talking to a cousin of mine who really knows computers, but if he doesn't know, maybe one of you will. I just got Ubuntu Linux today, and I wanted to get on a site, and it needs Shockwave, which...is Windows-only, if I'm not mistaken. What to do? o_o; Is there like maybe...an alternate version of it or something? If anyone can help, thanks.

EDIT: That is kinda dumb...the Media Player thing. Nobody's forcing me to use WMP, or Windows itself, for that matter. People can use what they wanna use. And on my question, I think I've found a program that will make it possible for me to use Windows apps in Linux, but if anyone else has suggestions, feel free to post.
