How does my thread which is barely a month old get closed and someone else is allowed to revive it? Moderating here is going to make me quit this place. here is the post. https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/314558 ad here is the new thread, https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/317931. Exactly the same thread and someone answered mine TODAY. I'm starting feel like I'm being picked on and I was seriously considering donating on my birthday, but after this (And this isnt the first time I've had a thread closed and killed before they start for reasons that barely make any sense).

If I'm not mistaken, there is a rule called grave-digging which is in most forums. If a thread does not have a reply on it after two weeks of it being up, the thread gets locked.

Threads that have not been posted in over a month are considered dead threads. You aren't supposed to post in them because of inactivity, and if it does get posted in, it'll get locked, like yours did. A new thread can be created if the old thread is over a month old (hence, dead). Those are global PC rules, effective everywhere (unless specifically stated), and it'll get locked regardless of who posts in the thread over a month old.

In other words, you are not being mistreated. You're being subject to the same rules everyone else is subject to. Hope that helps!

But what is the point of killing the thread if 4 to 5 people answer it? If one person did maybe i would understand. But this doesn't make any sense to me

Well, that's a time thing, is it not? Moderators aren't online 24/7, so they can't patrol threads constantly. And rules are rules. It's unfortunate that several people posted in a thread that, unknowingly to them, was off limits, but it's still an offence. An innocent one, but that doesn't change the fact the thread was bumped up when it wasn't supposed to be. That's an issue with timing, and simply keeping things orderly. Being lax on a rule like that would set a precedent, especially for a section as active as X/Y.

In this case, the thread was over a month old and the revival was simply an issue of people not looking at the last posted date. Discussion threads are considered dead and having run their course if they have received no new posts within a month, even if they receive 5 upon a revival within a short time frame, as it's likely that any of the older posts quoted in the newer posts won't receive a response from the poster whose post was quoted since they likely have long forgotten about that particular thread. The exceptions to this rule are stickied threads and sections that specifically state thread revival is allowed under certain conditions.

Can you kindly send me the link to these rules?

To be fair, the revival rule isn't something all staff really like or understand, but it's still a rule regardless.

Unfortunately, your thread had gone over a month without a reply, and with a section as active as the XY forum, it's probably happening and has happened to more than just yourself. Plus, the topic at hand is one of the most commonly asked not only for XY, but for all gens.

I know this seems like a dumb rule, and to some extent, I can agree. But it's mainly here to help keep things less cluttered with the same topics over and over again. Don't let the modding make you leave, though. Nymphadora is just doing her job. She has no vendetta against you, and it speaks nothing major about her modding or the modding on this forum. It's just a rule that must be adhered to, especially in a high traffic forum like XY. You're free to PM her about it if you'd like for further clarification. I promise she won't bite. :)

The link is right on the forum index directly below the link to the "Community Announcements" page, for future reference:

Forum-Wide Rules from the Rules thread said:
Do not post in threads that have not been posted in for more than a month. (2 pts / 2 wks)
A thread that has not been posted in for more than a month (generally around 30 days) is considered "old". Please do not revive old threads. If there's a topic you're interested in but the thread is too old to be posted in, create a new thread. Exceptions do apply in certain forums, so check the rules to see if they're exempt. Sticky threads are also usually exempt.

X&Y, being one of our most active forums, is not an area exempt from this rule.

I really appreciate your attentiveness to my entire post and concerns and it is refreshing that you are concerned with whether or not I depart from PC. Where can I view the thread rules because I didn't see them under the community rules

No problem! In the future, don't hesitate to go ahead and PM the moderator you need to contact. We're all here to help you, believe me. And Don has linked you to the rules in the post above your most recent, so just click that link and you'll be at the rules thread. :)
