What if ORAS allowed us to actually connect directly and discreetly to the original games in-game? Like, a special feature (or even a new gizmo) allowing us to link with the RSE GBA games and allowing us to directly transfer Pokémon from those games? How would it feel?

All of my Pokémon from RSE are either in my Black 2 or X version, so it wouldn't be that useful. Also, I imagine that all Hoenn 'mons (minus a couple legendaries) will be obtainable within ASΩR, so there really wouldn't be a need to transfer. Though it would be useful if you had Pokémon from Colosseum or XD that you wanted to transfer into the new games.

That...sounds really innovative, honestly. It wasn't done with any other remakes, but with the originals being more recent than R/B and G/S, I think it could be possible. More likely than not, however, I don't think you can play GBA games on the 3DS. Correct me if wrong.

You could use the Virtual Console games to achieve compatibility, though.

Probably not, since the 3DS doesn't have a GBA slot and I can't see how they would connect, or why we would need to, since they are going to be essentially upgraded versions of the originals.

I believe you have to transfer all your Pokemon from GBA games to DS ones, then to Gen 5 if you still want to have access to them in the newer ones because aren't they shutting off Wifi for the older games?

I don't know how useful that would be really. Most people have transferred their old Pokemon to newer games and then probably have even sent them to X and Y through the bank.

I'm not really seeing how this would be useful for the majority of people; this seems like something targeted at hardcore fans only, and I'm assuming hardcore fans have already transferred all of their critters out of R/S/E through Pal Park. ):

What if...what if they made the originals, plus RBYGSC available through Virtual Console? :O I remember once seeing what must have been a fake image showing plans to do so, and I was disappointed that it never came about. I would marry Game freak if that happened.

They are 3DS games, and the 3DS doesn't have a GBA slot. The only way they'd directly connect is if they had something to transmit to an original DS or DS Lite though Download Play, which would then grab Pokemon from the GBA games. And that seems... mostly pointless. Especially since it hinges on people having a functioning DS or DS Lite, which fewer and fewer people have.

I can't really see this happening. Pokemon is all about player interaction - trading, battling. Remember the old slogan - gotta catch 'em all?

Putting them on the Virtual Console would essentially remove the possibility of multiplayer. Not only could you not complete the Pokedex, because of version exclusives, you also couldn't even evolve all the Pokemon you can catch, because of trade evolutions.

Pretty much the only way this would happen is if Nintendo was desperate enough for cash that they'd bother essentially completely rewriting how the game handles multiplayer to handle 3DS wireless.

Yeah I know...it would be nice for just having access to them, but the chances are slim. :\

PokeBank would've been a complete waste of money for a lot of people.

Yeah, I agree. I couldn't see this happening, because most people have by now restarted their original Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire games so they have lost most of their Pokémon. Or most people, like I, have transferred their Pokémon over to later games which we can just use PokéBank for now. Even if allowed this feature, I don't think many people would use it and Game Freak would lose money.

Although it sounds fun, I guess its not probable considering most people must have broken their copy of RSE or lost it or is corrupt. Besides if they did love their Pokemon, they could have imported them in DPPt before so I guess I would say no. :(

They made the remakes mostly because connection with 3rd gen was getting complicated (RS to DP, DP to BW, BW to XY), so it would be pointless to connect to the originals

I definitely agree that it will likely not happen because of PokéBank. There is no need to create an accessory that allows the 3DS to communicate with GBA games when PokéBank has been created for the purpose of transferring Pokémon. PokéBank wouldn't be a complete waste, because you'd still need it to transfer Pokémon from gens 4 and 5, but I still have my doubts, as the GBA is very old technology that the 3DS is most likely not compatible with. It just seems like the resources that went into such a device would be best focused elsewhere.

While it would never happen, I'd like to see peripherals for the GBA and DS come out to transfer directly from Gen III and Gen IV to Poke Bank.

I was just thinking what if they included an emulated Ruby/Sapphire that you could unlock after defeating the champion in the remakes? It would be pretty nifty.

    Omega Ruby - Unlock Sapphire
    Alpha Sapphire - Unlock Ruby

Sure it would be kind of pointless, but the brilliant kind of pointless!

I agree that would be really cool and actually helpful for those who skipped out on the 4th and 5th gen games to transfer their gen 3 Pokémon (and their gen 4 Pokémon if they missed out on gen 5)--but as said, sadly it's almost impossible simply because of the hardware limitations of the GBA.

There's actually a reason why the 3DS is not receiving the GBA VC titles while the Wii U is. It's difficult for me to explain since I'm not so tech-savvy, but essentially the 3DS processor "becomes" a DS processor while playing DS games...and it's unable to really work for GBA games. The Ambassador titles were not up to Nintendo's quality standards--you couldn't pause the game with the Home button, there were no quick-saves; things that you've come to expect from VC titles because that's what the NES/SNES VC titles include. So again, it would be neat (its basically two games for the price of one), but it's essentially impossible because of hardware limitations--you'd be better off playing the originals on a GBA SP!

Or on the DS Lite or Original DS if one broke their GBA SP.
I wish it were easy to directly transfer into Pokebank. Especially considering that the Pal Park and the Gen V mini games become tedious after awhile...
