I am interested in playing the Pokémon Trading Card Game, but I'm not sure where to begin. Is the game cost effective? I assume that collecting cards would be expensive depending on the card, but I'm not sure. Are there ban lists? Where do I go to play with others? Are there any online resources?

    Thanks,

    Serenity

I am just going to take some time to bump this thread in case someone on the forums could answer this question and help me out.

I've never kept up with the game, only buying the occasional pack or getting one as a gift and building unlimited decks to battle casually with friends at school, but I assume that maintaining an up-to-date deck would be fairly expensive. With new mechanics and power creeps introduced every so often, you're basically forced to continue buying cards if you want any chance at winning. And certain cards might even run you hundreds of dollars if you don't get lucky and pull them yourself.

You can check for Pokémon Leagues in your area here: https://events.pokemon.com/en-us/events (you might also find some via social media)

Thank you so much for the information. This is extremely helpful!

A good place to start is the online app, it'll teach you the basics, what you can and cannot do in a turn etc.

Pricewise the TCG is at the best its been in years, there's a lot of viable budget decks right now ranging in cost between £15-£60 that are easily competing with top tier £120-200 range decks
