Contests or Gyms?

easily gym battles I pretty much hate contests but everyone is entitled to their own opinion so ill leave it there.

Contest battles are fun to watch and are creative, but i always prefer Gym battles in the end since its a little more tense :)

I like gym battles better. I'll watch contests but I suck a dressing up my pokemon XD
im not talking about the game im talking about the anime....

I like contests more but i don't like the contests in the games, just in the anime.

I enjoy both. Through, to me, Contests are usually tougher.

Contests in the games i think are epic fails in the show there ok but i still think nothing better than a gym battle

Anime-wise, definitely Contests. I find them more amusing to watch, mainly because Contests show off all the neat moves/combos in a show-offish type of way. Also because a lot of characters take part in them, while the Anime's Gym battles are always just Ash VS Gym leader. I don't find them near as amusing anymore. Hoenn Contests were a plus because Drew was in them a lot. The only time that I bother to watch Gym Battles is if it's a Gym Leader that I like a LOT, or if Shinji is the challenger and not Ash.

Well, Gyms are defiantely the staple of Pokemon Trainers everywhere, to prove strength and the power to overcome challenges.

Contests are for appeal,
and add more stratagy, rather than beating the crap out of each other for experience points.

So, in truth,
I would do both If I was a trainer.

If I had to choose, I'd pick Gyms.

I mean, at least with Gyms, there's not any sex stereotypes going on. With Contests, well, they usually make it out to be that only girly girls/metrosexuals/homosexual guys can participate in them on a regular basis.

I mean, personally, I think it's insulting to girls (and to a gender-equality-advocator such as myself, it's insulting to me as well) to have it seem that way. I mean, it's bad enough that May and Dawn are treated like any other female is treated in an anime, but to have contests treated in this manner?! ugh.. It's like saying that Women shouldn't read or the only things women are good at are homemaking, making babies, and playing with dollies (These statements are supposed to be a negative, BTW).

They only participate in them on a regular basis because they are the only ones who WANT to participate in them on a regular basis.
Contest are girly, period. They're are like beauty pageants, which are girly.

I count 12 (confirmed) guys here who picked gyms, and a few who think contests are stupid. They're not showing mostly girls in contests because they are sexist, it's because most guys just are not genuinely interested in that sort of thing.

And HOW does showing off your pokemon's looks and using moves in a dazzling way teach women to to not read and have babies?
I would actually say Misty's part in the Princess vs. Princess promotes this as they actually fought for the prize of dolls, it was a girl's only contest and a Princess does nothing more than get married off to Princes to have babies and have to follow very strict moral and gender based standards.
Dawn and May are very adamant girls making a name for themselves in a contest of skill and beauty. :>

Oh, I choose Contests btw.

The contests this season are kinda boring--all they are basically doing is recycling RSE with pretty outfits. That said, it would be fun to see aspects of the game Super Contests in the show--Dawn doing DDR with her Pokemon and dressing them up, and no battles.

oh darn this should of been polled. But I'm more of a fighter so I like seeing gym battles more

I prefer Gym Battles, but then again I also prefer Contest combinations to Gym moves.

To be frank, Contests do and always have bored me. Gym Battles FTW.

It doesn't matter to me if it's meant to be like beauty pageants (which I also hated as a whole, as they only served to objectify women in a physical sense, and NOT under intellect or any empowering methods.). I don't like it when women are basically treated as having a large amount of beauty, and yet not being intelligent. I also don't like it when my own gender

I personally don't care for flashy stuff (I don't think it reflects a person's true character, be it men or women). But having it done in such a way that Contests are the only thing that Girls should do, and not do anything else IS sexist.

I didn't say (or at least, I didn't mean) that it teaches that, I said that it's comparable to it, because girl viewers will think that's the ONLY thing girls should do and that they can never be anything else. It's like what Zoe said in Baby Blues due to societal standards and the media. She once said that she wanted to be a cheerleader because, and I quote: "Boys are Doctors and Girls are Cheerleaders".

It was a Girl's Only Festival. Besides, she at least was better than the OTHER contestants (who only participated in the contest due to Fiorello being there. I can never forget that day I watched it and I heard those nightmarish screams. The screams that made me and my family realize that they only promoted Sexist ordeals by having women being portrayed as loud, whiney and obnoxious.).

Dawn and May are very adamant girls making a name for themselves in a contest of skill and beauty. :>

How is basically making flashy appearances "skill"? All I see is them basically making colors when attacking. In order for it to be true skill, they need to be able to actually come up with strategies and fight the enemy.

Oh, I choose Contests btw.

Fine, Be my guest.

Never is it said that the girls are not allowed to do anything else.
They choose to. Not once have the girls asked to participate in something else and someone said "No."
You're the sexist one saying that every girl who watches a cartoon show (which Pokemon is social suicide, so why would they emulate it to fit in with society's standards?) will automatically succumb to being a ditzy, unintelligent, bubble head.
Strangely, we do have some type of self-esteem. Those who choose to be anorexic flirt cheerleaders chose that life.

It does not portray women as loud and whiney, it portrays fangirls as loud and whiney, which they are. Women have been fangirling over attractive guys for a LONG time before Pokemon and there is no harm in it. Boys get exicted for their favorite female star as well.

They actually have to be successful in battle to do well in anime contests, which takes skill.
Contest appeals are not just "flashy", they don't pose and leave. They use their moves in a way that creates an appealing visual image to an audience.
That's called art, which should be promoted in every means.

On a more general note for pro-contests, the game contests take more effort than just level grinding and picking a good set of moves. You need a good set of moves for the contest side that also correlate with the type of move it is, berry combinations that result in high level and low feel for your pokemon, quick reflexes, and being able to respond to and predict what will happen in the next round.

Love contests. If boy's don't want to do it, that's cool. :> More wins for me.

Gym battle, there is nothing in the Pokemon world like it, and when I watch the first few seasons I kinda get happy when a gym battle comes on, and its kinda funny watching Ash lose.

weedle_mchairybug, why the hell do you feel the need to bash on anything that Misty isn't in?
You find a reason to believe and say that contests are sexist? And somehow shows that girls are only good for being moms, cleaners? WHAT THE HELL DOES CONTEST HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH MOTHERING/CLEANING?

Ash seems to enjoy contests. He's not a girl nor gay (well maybe ..but not flameboyantish).

Contests are a great addition to the show, to have the co-star girls do something other than just follow Ash (which sadly, Misty got stuck doing) which is why I think you're angry at contests, because May/Dawn are more important than Misty ..cause they actually have a goal. That's why I think you're all negative about contests overall. :] say all you want, be we all know the truth, eheh.
