Controllers

I don't really understand what 3D has to do with anything but... yea, stick is used more in games which is WHY I can't understand that placement on Xbox controllers.
If you move with your thumb, why would you want to put it up into wtf position? =D

Because the main mode of moving a character has always been symmetrical with the face buttons. 2D games had the D-pad symmetrical with the buttons and 3D games that don't need 8 directions have an analog stick symmetrical to the face buttons. No one picks up an NES or SNES controller back in the days and keeps their left thumb down and their right thumb up. That's why Xbox and Nintendo controllers have the analog stick next to the face buttons, since the D-pad isn't used as often due to more 3D environment games.

Props to Nintendo: GameCube, Wiimote + Nunchuck, Classic Controller Pro, Wii U Gamepad. You've made some damn comfortable and ergonomic controllers over the years.

The Xbox 360 controller is also impressive.

Worst for me would be the six-button Sega Genesis controller. How is this useful for anything outside of fighters? So many Sega games just duplicate functionality across multiple buttons and it is confusing

On top of my list, it would have to be WiiMote. Although some might call it gimmicky--I could definitely see why, as it breaks away from traditional method of video game controllers and whatnot--I feel it's also rather innovative, so to speak. It requires us to move our body parts around (well, at least in most games) in order to control, which I believe makes this controller in particular stand out. If it weren't for that, I likely wouldn't have felt the same about it!

Second on my list is Xbox 360 control. This one's got a nice shape, making it easy to hold into your hands. It's also got a nice button layout, in such a way that we don't wind up confusing which button is which while playing games and whatnot (of course, most controllers are like that, but I feel that 360 one is slightly better in this regard). All of these features certainly help when playing fast-paced games, such as Call of Duty and Need for Speed.

As for third, that would likely have to be GameCube controller, due to similar reason as Xbox's. Fourth is PlayStation 2, 3, and 4, with fifth being Wii U tablet.

To this day, I've yet to encounter anything made before or after that tops the Gamecube controller.

It baffles me that Nintendo adopted the SNES layout for their future "pro" controllers. The GCN controller just needed some tweaking (wtf with that tiny Z button, awkward C-stick, tiny D-pad, etc.). But the four main face buttons are godly

This thing is the best controller imo:
Spoiler:

Oh wait it is a mouse... nevermind.

I have to go with the PS3 controller as my most favorite. It has the PS2 feeling but wireless and I like not having to care about a wire hanging around the place and someone could even trip over it. Downside though is that at some point it has to be wired to recharge :P

Least favorite... Don't really have a least favorite since I only own the Playstation line of consoles and never even touched a Xbox or the older Nintendo systems :(
