    Virtual Reality Gaming In Pokémon

Virtual reality has taken some strides in the gaming world. We have even seen some big titles like Skyrim and Fallout go out and try the VR aspect. Upon reading some of the reviews and watching some game play it looks like there are still lots of aspects to polish but has taken strides. Rockstar had also released a VR version of their detective game of L.A Noire with the same obvious rough corners to iron out. Thank you YouTube and Steam for the quick research.

It got me thinking, and this is where the conversation really kicks in...
    .
    • Could we in the next few years see Nintendo and Gamefreak come out with a main (Like X/Y, Emerald etc.) or spin off full length game (Mystery Dungeon) that has full supported VR functionality and game play from beginning of the game to "The End" (Gym Battles +Story) for the Nintendo Switch or home console? Or even have it as an option that you could play through normally with just a controller, or go through with a virtual reality headset and controller? While we do have Pokemon GO, this is considered an Augmented reality (AR) game, it isn't to be confused with actual VR due to the fact that AR takes place in a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real world are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information. (Game Material)
    • If you were to sit down with the aforementioned companies and add a couple of elements to a potential VR Pokemon game, what would you add, propose or consider in the grand scheme of things? (Cust. Satisfaction, Sales, PR, etc.)

    My take

Surprisingly this had generated a HUGE debate whenever I was doing a group chat while playing an Xbox game yesterday. While I would love to see a fully implemented stand alone VR Pokemon game it would really limit down on their sales considering the fact that extra equipment would have to be bought in order to play the game. Nintendo could be sneaky and have it set as a special combo price. (Hardware + Game). However, given the scenario I think they would experiment more on a side game compared to a main series game to see what the general feel and feedback would be where you can choose between VR or controlled method...

I don't believe it would be for the Nintendo Labo, in fact, if this was an actual thing in development I would think that Nintendo would come out with a different add on for the VR side of things.

We have a lot of passionate fans around here... What is your perspective on this subject?

I think that VR technology still has a ways to go before a major company picks it up and uses it and it becomes a mainstream part of gaming. I've not ever tried it before, and I can't say that I know much about it, but it's always seemed to me to be a bit too rough and limited for serious consideration for use as a main entry in a major franchise. If development of it continues to progress, it'll likely happen someday, it's just a question of when exactly "someday" is, of how rapidly VR will progress.

I sincerely hope not. The concept of VR is simply too advanced for current technology to do properly, and what constitutes VR these days is gimmicky at best and painful at worst. Gaming just has not reached a point where anything is as simple or intuitive as traditional button controls, at least in my opinion. VR is cumbersome, uncomfortable, and extremely expensive. Whilst it's an intriguing concept, at the moment it is better off being just that: a concept. Until the technology is sufficiently advanced enough for it to not be an absolute nightmare to play, at least.

Nintendo haven't really dipped their toes in VR in the same way that other platforms have either - sure, we've got Labo, but they've always done their own thing when it comes to new technology and ways to play, and if they ever DO break into the VR market I get the sense that it'll be done in their own way as well, so what we currently think of as VR probably won't reflect what Nintendo will give us. If Game Freak make a Pokemon VR, it'll be in a spinoff game like the Let's Go series, and not in a core title, which they won't want to risk messing with. Core Pokemon has gotten along just fine by being exactly the same as the one that has preceeded it since Red and Blue, and that is highly unlikely to ever change.

I'd say a few more years. VR is still working through the technology world, plus many of us can't really afford a VR console just yet.

Nintendo took a step with their VR Labo, but I won't be surprised if they build a VR set with VR Pokemon.
