Credenza
The Pokémon magazine written by fans, for fans.
Credenza is a new online-based magazine aimed at and written by Pokémon fans. The magazine aspires to provide a level of intelligent writing on the subject of Pokémon that is interesting, informative and inspiring. We want to offer an alternative look at what's going on in the Pokémon fandom – let's face it, people aren't going to download a PDF to see the news that HeartGold and SoulSilver have been announced. People can hear about that at any number of news websites and forums, and so we want to provide articles that are of practical worth – the very first article to be written is a rundown of the pros and cons of importing Pokémon games, for example. The people behind the magazine are Camisado and myself, Get Innocuous!. The magazine will be released on a monthly basis in both PDF and JPEG format, with possible scope for a Flash-based release. It will feature articles written by fans that are submitted to us. This is why I am appealing to you, the users of PokéCommunity, today; we would love to hear from anyone interested in submitting an article to be featured in an issue of Credenza.
Allow me to clarify the situation. We are not hiring staff. At least for the time being the 'staff' will continue to be Camisado and I – the co-editors. Instead, we are looking for people who want to showcase their writing, either as a one-off contribution or on a regular basis. The articles will need to be of a very high quality – such are our standards. We ask that your articles be something a little different; instead of an article listing information about HeartGold and SoulSilver, how about an in-depth piece analysing how you think the game will perform when put on sale? To give you an idea on what to write, we will set a prompt for anyone who wishes to write for Credenza. For the August 2009 issue (i.e. the first issue) the prompt will be beginning. Do not feel that your submissions have to be limited to formal pieces on a serious subject. We're perfectly willing to receive short pieces about one's own experiences with Pokémon games that are well-written and entertaining. All contributions that are accepted will be credited to their author, with links to their PokéCommunity profiles present within the PDF version of Credenza. There's no strict requirements on the word count of an article submission. As a rough guideline, just go for a round number (a multiple of 500, perhaps). In terms of a minimum length requirement, 500 words is the absolute minimum word count - this is enough for roughly one page of Credenza. Submissions should be in .doc or .rtf format preferably, and attached to an email sent to [email protected]
To give you an idea of the sort of standard that we expect from submissions, here is an excerpt from the aforementioned article on importing games:
Even if you aren't able to write an article for Credenza, however, we would be very interested to hear any ideas you have for one-off articles or for features that we might run on a regular basis – something that would make you more interested in the magazine. All ideas for articles will be considered, and if considered worthwhile will be written about, either by myself, Camisado or another person willing to write for us who may have no idea what to write about. As with submitted articles, any ideas for articles that we use will be credited to the person who suggested them (something like "Original concept by: <your name here>"), as well as the person who authors it.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this post, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Spoiler:
The drawbacks to importing Pokémon games seem more numerous, but they do not necessarily outweigh the benefits. The most popular method for importing Pokémon games is via the Internet, and one cannot ignore the general risks of buying online. Be protective of your details, and make sure you only give out sensitive details on trusted, secure websites – where possible, use Paypal. If I were to recommend a website from which to import games I would suggest credible websites such as Play Asia, or by bidding in an auction on eBay that is being held by a seller with a positive feedback rating. One of the biggest turnoffs for would-be importers of games is the price tag. Upon the Japanese release of Platinum, websites devoted to the export of Japanese games would often quote prices in excess of $50, and this is without the shipping price factored in. If you are intending to buy a very recently released game I would suggest an auction site such as the aforementioned eBay. Sellers will often buy in bulk, and then sell the games for a profit on eBay. I imported an American version of Pokémon Diamond Version in this way – luckily I was able to purchase the game from a UK-based seller, and, to boot, the price was actually lower than what I would have paid upon the game's release.
