    Credenza
The Pokémon magazine written by fans, for fans.

Credenza is a new online-based magazine aimed at and written by Pokémon fans. The magazine aspires to provide a level of intelligent writing on the subject of Pokémon that is interesting, informative and inspiring. We want to offer an alternative look at what's going on in the Pokémon fandom – let's face it, people aren't going to download a PDF to see the news that HeartGold and SoulSilver have been announced. People can hear about that at any number of news websites and forums, and so we want to provide articles that are of practical worth – the very first article to be written is a rundown of the pros and cons of importing Pokémon games, for example. The people behind the magazine are Camisado and myself, Get Innocuous!. The magazine will be released on a monthly basis in both PDF and JPEG format, with possible scope for a Flash-based release. It will feature articles written by fans that are submitted to us. This is why I am appealing to you, the users of PokéCommunity, today; we would love to hear from anyone interested in submitting an article to be featured in an issue of Credenza.

Allow me to clarify the situation. We are not hiring staff. At least for the time being the 'staff' will continue to be Camisado and I – the co-editors. Instead, we are looking for people who want to showcase their writing, either as a one-off contribution or on a regular basis. The articles will need to be of a very high quality – such are our standards. We ask that your articles be something a little different; instead of an article listing information about HeartGold and SoulSilver, how about an in-depth piece analysing how you think the game will perform when put on sale? To give you an idea on what to write, we will set a prompt for anyone who wishes to write for Credenza. For the August 2009 issue (i.e. the first issue) the prompt will be beginning. Do not feel that your submissions have to be limited to formal pieces on a serious subject. We're perfectly willing to receive short pieces about one's own experiences with Pokémon games that are well-written and entertaining. All contributions that are accepted will be credited to their author, with links to their PokéCommunity profiles present within the PDF version of Credenza. There's no strict requirements on the word count of an article submission. As a rough guideline, just go for a round number (a multiple of 500, perhaps). In terms of a minimum length requirement, 500 words is the absolute minimum word count - this is enough for roughly one page of Credenza. Submissions should be in .doc or .rtf format preferably, and attached to an email sent to [email protected]

To give you an idea of the sort of standard that we expect from submissions, here is an excerpt from the aforementioned article on importing games:

    Spoiler:

Even if you aren't able to write an article for Credenza, however, we would be very interested to hear any ideas you have for one-off articles or for features that we might run on a regular basis – something that would make you more interested in the magazine. All ideas for articles will be considered, and if considered worthwhile will be written about, either by myself, Camisado or another person willing to write for us who may have no idea what to write about. As with submitted articles, any ideas for articles that we use will be credited to the person who suggested them (something like "Original concept by: <your name here>"), as well as the person who authors it.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this post, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Because I'm far too lazy to leave you a note on your LJ(s) or VM(s)... or, well, before anyone else asks to get an (insert something here) article, I'd just like to verify that I'd totally be up for writing for Credenza again because it really, really was a neat idea. I mean, I've seen papers (quite a few, actually) that were all like, "lol, let's get information from Serebii and repeat it for the umpteenth time," but Credenza was basically about the fan's perspective of things, not the news perspective. It's just a shame the writers from the original didn't keep up with it.

That being said, I'd be willing to do a column on advice to fanfiction authors, if you think it'd fit in the magazine on a regular basis. Alternatively, I could go back to my original beat and do advice to forum admins/staff. Whichever you think would work better.

Also, would it help much to have a submission form/set of guidelines? Like, "By the way, this is the maximum page/character limit we're accepting before it gets WTF-worthy, this is how we want your article saved, and this is where you send it to"?

As always you're all kinds of awesome, Jax. =D

Yeah, I was tired of seeing stuff that was essentially regurgitating what Serebii had written and then bawwing about the new GSDS girl. The fan's view is always more valued by fans, in my opinion, than the news site's view.

The fanfic advice idea sounds great. =D I don't know how many words you plan on writing, but make it a nice round number and it'll be fine. My imports article was 1,500 words including the headers, so something like that would be awesome.

    One of the many things I surely forgot in my first post. xD; I ought to plan this stuff out, but instead it was one of the To-Dos that got forgotten as I wrote. >>;

May I say you are both fantastic xD

Anyway, if anyone would like to submit anything to Credenza, like Get Innocuous! said, send it to [email protected] by the 25th July, as the first issue, we're hoping, will be released on 1st August.

I would love to participate! As a Battle Frontier fanatic and crazed member, I think I could submit some rather fun articles analyzing certain aspects about a part of the fandom I'm highly interesting in. For example: Battle Frontier facility advice or analysis.

Fantastic! I'd be very glad for you to contribute with something like that regularly if you're up for it. =3

Oh, I remember this! I'd love to contribute, but I can't think of anything interesting I could write.

    :(

In which case, you might be able to offer your services if someone comes up with an idea and doesn't want to write, or something like that?

    Thanks for your support! =)

How goes it, Ryan? Same goes fr you, Jax. =3

Anyone else who wishes to participate has less than three weeks to get their articles written. We will accept late submissions, but we would much prefer it if everything is emailed to us at [email protected] Additionally, we now have a submissions guide up over at the website that goes into a lot more detail and provides a list of dos and don'ts.

To be honest, we'd just be happy to have submissions on any topic that isn't the Pokémon equivalent to saying "I don't know if you've noticed, but did you see that Michael Jackson died?". xD; We have a prompt of 'beginning' if you want to use it, but it's not the be all and end all.

    Hi guys.

Unfortunately due to lack of interest (we don't want a magazine full of just us two!) we won't be releasing the first issue of Credenza this month.

Therefore, the first issue will be released on 1st September, with a submission due date of 25th August.

Hey, I have a question. Can there be Pokemon fan-fics, or is just our opinions on canon stuff?

Not many in an issue, and they'd have to fit our short word limits. Maybe some short one-shots on the issue's prompt? We just don't want to be advertising fanfics xD no serialisation or anything.

    Hope this helps =)
