I'm an idiot? I don't know...I didn't do any of the work and rarely showed up for class. I also hate children so when I did turn in work it wasn't anywhere near what she wanted.

Now I'm down one upper division elective and so I'm looking for an online course to fill it in (had to do it for Cultural Anthropology because the course wasn't offered in time for my graduation). Expository Writing (course I'm looking at) is more my style anyway...
Take Expository Writing. I'm taking Advanced Writing and Literature 3 in my school (There are no Honors or AP for Electives here), and I'm loving the teacher. She also teaches regular students who call her the grammar nazi, but we get along fine.

Ouch.. but you're just gonna have to blame yourself for that one. Good luck, though.

Though I find it hard to believe that you "just found out" that you failed if you were failing all along.. denial perhaps?

Either way it's not too big of a deal. Just make it up :3 Shouldn't be too bad.

I already admitted I was an idiot. I say that counts for blaming myself...

Eh. I figured a low C or D+ enough to be considered passing. My prof notified me this afternoon that even if I aced the rest of the assignments I wouldn't be able to pass. So the only choice is to formally withdraw so it doesn't wreck my GPA.

No...but I have to face the wrath of my parents (who are helping me to pay for this expensive education) and my academic adviser (who is also my friend/mentor).

Ouch! Tough! But I'm sure you can get through it. It's not the end of the world.. even though the wrath of parents may feel like the end of the world sometimes.. lol

Most definitely, of that I have no doubt. It's just...I wish I could skip the whole wrath part and go straight to completing my online course...that would be way better...

Oh well...what's life without rebuke, hmm?

Yeah.. haha.. but in all fairness if they're helping you pay they kinda have a right to have their angry moment. Let's just hope it goes by quickly lol..

Yeah yeah yeah...that's what I keep telling myself...it'll blow over...at least in a week...I just hope I'm ready for it...they are out of town for the week so I'm debating whether to tell them while they are away so that they can cool off or tell them when they get back...

I dunno.. that's a hard one to decide there.. maybe tell them that you have something to discuss with them when they come home? Cause I'm sure you don't wanna ruin their week ://

I would just tell them while they are away, as you said it won't be as bad when they get back. Heck, if you're lucky, they might forget about the issue as a whole. That has happened to me a few times. Not because my parents were out of town, but they are always so busy.
However, as Kura said, unless they are on vacation, you should probably wait until they get back.

Yeah...they will forget...except the $300 for the online course....

Hmm...besides they are away for business (one for business meeting the other for business training) I'm sure they week is already rough...maybe it'll get lost in the frustration of the week...don't know...

I should open up a poll in "Other Polls" to get the community's opinion XD

Then just tell them you'll pay for the online course. $300 isn't too much of a deal compared to the rest of a lot of tuition prices.

I think you should wait. Think about how it must feel in their position. Plus.. what if you get two lectures? One on the phone and one when you come home? You might as well just deal with it once and get it over with instead of letting it fester.

Very wise. That's what my best friend (who isn't always wise) said to me too when I called him. We will see if I crave or not before they get home...

Well off to my night classes. See you guys later!

That was the first thing I thought when I thinking about your situation. o_O

o_o Really? To let other people what you should do in a troublesome situation? o___o That is the LAST thing I would think of personally..

Some people need help deciding but man o_o; that's so not me.

I was just thinking, he should see what other people think. I realize that more people would be looking at the Voting Polls as a whole than the Daily Chat, especially newer members. Just a wider range of opinions could help his situation. Since I've been in a similar situation like him, then there might be others like us, and he could relate more.
Just saying, as all.

Yeah I guess so.. but people don't really know his relationship with his parents ._. I think it's something he'd best trust asking people closest to him IMO..

It's a shame that "just passing" doesn't really work out there in the real world. As I said, there is a reason that they did sacrifice about 10 or so years of their life. And you're missing my point. You're focusing on the part of the exams when that's not what I was referencing to at all.

And this is why people get so many misconceptions about doctors and the medical field. You can watch House, you can watch Scrubs, you can watch any TV show that you want, but nothing shown on TV would capture the real essence of actually being there in the emergency room trying to take care of your patient, with their life on the line with your blood pressure and stress levels literally doubling because you know that these things are on the line.

The problem is that you see this stuff in black and white; you refer to this stuff like it's hit-and-miss like it's High School. You should know this of all people, but grad school is a place where there's little room for error, especially the really tough med schools out there. My point is that there is absolutely no such thing as a doctor completely BS-ing his way through school, otherwise, he wouldn't be a doctor.

You'd realize that you'd have to be a doctor's apprentice and go through several tests because you can actually call yourself a doctor, right? You're deluded with this High school class rank crap because not only will it not be looked upon by your future employers...well guess what, it's hardly gonna be looked upon at all. Sorry to say. It's nice to have, but I don't care if you're #1 in you're class of 20,000, if you make a mistake, you're honestly no different than someone who graduated and still became a doctor at the bottom of their class.

The amount of effort that one puts in their med school education is absolutely critical, and it's through that effort that one can really determine who is a credible doctor or not. I'm not gonna deny that there are some doctors in the world that you would not know how in the heck they would get their Doctorate's or PhD for matter, but that's so far and few between that you can hardly ever count them.

You(apparently) think that people who graduate at the top of their class are perfect because they earned the beautiful name of "valedictorian" or that beautiful "John Smith graduated in the top 5% of his class" crap. Tell me Kura, if someone in the midst of dying of cancer, how in the world would class rank would ever so be relevant to saving their life? The focus on the matter is saving the person's life, not the choice of the doctor who either got a A or a B in Anatomy. That is insignificant and ridiculous.

I didn't mean to "belittle" you, but you did explode on me for little reason, and I find it offending and quite confusing that you would think that something as small as class size would play a part in life decisions. It's pretty, I agree, but it will hardly help you in the world out there.

By the way, my name is Derky. People can call me either or, it doesn't bother me.
Holy snap you're bringing this up again?

:C Well since you wrote all that up I might as well read it all so it's not a post that goes wasted..

Edit: Listen.. doctors was only using a bad example for my point in it's entirety: That classmarks matter. You're taking this whole thing and making it about being wrong and right about doctors. Okay, yes, you win- doctors go through crazy amounts of medical training- I get that. For them it wouldn't matter because they're ALL dedicated. But over here I'm talking about marks in any profession in general. And this is why I believe it matters: Like if I were going to get my hair cut! I can't walk in and ask to see the hairdresser's portfolio. I just have to take my chances and hope they do a good job- and if they passed beauty school with a 55% on practical exams then it's way different quality of a cut than what I would get with a person who got 100% on all their practical exams. (Technically I'm paying the same amount of money to someone with the same status of Junior Hairdresser.) Some people know how to cut and foil hair without bleeding and others just need more practice. Sometimes even experienced people hardly get it right if they never care to perfect it in the workplace after school is over.

I just gotta say I've seen a lot of stuff.. and to me it may not necessarily be "hit or miss" but explain to me.. then how can you pass through 3 years of university level writing/ english courses and have to read a peer's work who's writing looks like this?:
[PokeCommunity.com] Daily Chit-Chat -- Autumn and/or Spring Edition

._. Please explain this.. I tried to rewrite it a little to help make some sense of it.. >_> But even I can't salvage everything.. that's 1 of 4 pages.. and yes I realize I probably missed stuff like "stays" instead of "stayed" and "opens his eyes" instead of "opens eyes"

What in God's name is that? o.0 My background in English/writing is telling me to be kinda ill at the moment.

This, I agree with you there. As far as biological things are concerned, doctors have little room for error. As far as English essays are concerned....you know, there is the saying(sort of but not really) "you write like a doctor". From my point of view, this sorta means that the person would write pretty messy for the most part, and even though it's stereotyping all doctor's handwriting as messy handwriting.

Correcting essays like this is sort of what I did for a hobby last year, and I can honestly say that it is indeed quite a shame if you've been through years of English courses and yet forget to input certain words in sentences or use unnecessary words or punctuation.

---

And I didn't really mean to "bring it up" again. You must realize that as a pre-med student myself, I do take these things quite seriously. I could've dropped it yes, but it would've made it like I had no defense on my behalf. I wanted to explain myself and further elaborate on the things that I said, and truly explain my point rather than leave someone in the dark about it and for them to form misconceptions about my views.

Yeah I get that, that's why I read your post instead of ignoring it.. by the way I edited my last point again to add some more to what I'm trying to say.. hope you get it.

Honestly I didn't really have to go through the thing and like.. cross stuff out. We just had to sorta give an evaluation on the story on a separate sheet. I missed stuff because everything was just.. mind-bogglingly bad.. as you can see.. >_> But it gets worse on other pages.

What in God's name is that? o.0 My background in English/writing is telling me to be kinda ill at the moment.
