Daily Chit-Chat -- Winter and/or Summer Edition

Yesterday, at a party, some guy was discussing some show or something about the most obsessive Twilight fans. One fan in particular had taken a film (or video, I can't remember) of herself in a wedding dress with hundreds of photos of Jacob on the wall behind her. Cause that's true love...

Twilight isn't my thing, then I am a guy, so lol!

Didn't realize it was valentines day until I got to school.

I actually went to write the date today and I had to think about what day it was. It never clued into me that it was Valentine's Day, haha. Shows how much I care. XD;

It has to do with Bella being a Mary-Sue and in the first person, so emotionally fragile teen girls can empathisize with her.

Seeing as 97% of the Twilight fans are girls, I guess you're right.
I just didn't think there were so many emotionally fragile girls.

You'd be surprised how powerful media is. Girls are told that being skinny is best, and being subservient to a man is the best way to go (the Disney cartoons are excellent examples of this). It also takes easily one week for a teacher to convince his/her class of gender identities. And what do girls play with? Dolls of course. They're learning to take care of babies already.

Now it's not to say that girls should play with robots and lego and boys with dolls (it's hard to change that social norm), but rather to make them aware that they don't have to be relegated to a social norm. People generally want to be accepted, so to do this they make sacrifices, which most of the time, is unfun for that person.

They hook on to Twilight because they like how the strong Edward holds on to Bella (so to speak). But this is why the book is such a bad role model for girls.

Harry Potter on the other hand, the wizarding world perpetuates Human equality. Of course you'll get the groups who hate non-wizards and monsters, but that was party of the book's subplot conflict.

Essentially Bella is going to become a housewife.

I see people complaining about girls being too fat or too slim all over the place and not complaining about the same thing happening on guys.

Media has way too much power. In anything. That's why I don't pay much attention to it.

I'm just glad I wasn't the only one that I was never into Valentines Day. My friends hated it as well!

May I say this again?: Ew Twilight.

Yeah, society seems to be really male dominated nowadays.
...it almost always has been. It's not a recent thing. :( I think there's only a few societies in history where women were truly equal or more dominant.

...it almost always has been. It's not a recent thing. :( I think there's only a few societies in history where women were truly equal or more dominant.

Let's see:
Ancient Greece - Male society
Roman Empire - Male society
European Dark Ages - Filled with male societies
European Middle Ages - Even more filled with male societies
Renaissance - Male societies
18th and 19th centuries - Male societies
Dictatorial regimes - Male societies

...so yeah.

Ancient times men were revered. Men went off to war, men held property, men were well-respected. Women were treated like poor people. But, women realized they needed to speak up. Pretty soon, they removed the shadow and the slanted judgment people had with women.
