I opened my eyes groggily, trying to blink out the bright light. My arm felt like lead- no, it didn't even feel like anything at all. I didn't look at it, knowing that it must've been awfully mutilated. But what I did see was Hachino-sensei, who was muttering calculations to himself as he scribbled in a notebook. He didn't seem to notice I was awake, so I kept it that way. But strain as I might, I couldn't understand what he was saying. In fact, it seemed as if he weren't saying anything at all, just mumbling to himself in the dork language that belonged to him and only him. So I felt as if it was okay to open my eyes.
"Ah, you're awake!" Hachino-sensei grinned, "Well, actually I've known you've been awake for awhile, but that's not the point. How's your arm?" He jabbed the air with the end of his pencil towards my arms. I took a sharp breath and looked down at what I was sure would be nothing. Instead, I just saw something that looked relatively similar to an arm, just wrapped up in a thick layer of bandanges, "It's a good thing I found you before you lost too much blood. I'd imagine somebody's trying to make Sound pull out. We can't do much with just Hiryuku-chan, you know what I'm saying?" He laughed, though he sounded a little anxious.
I was anxious too.
"Hachino-sensei, who-"
"Ah! I knew you'd ask that! I can't tell you myself- chakra does leave it's imprints, but, apparently, whoever decided to sabotage you earlier didn't use any chakra." Hachino-sensei shrugged with a sigh, "Hiryuku-chan is somewhere out in Konohagakure, I didn't bother to go find her. You two don't seem to get along very well after all~" He continued to scribble in the notebook and it was silent for a long time before I mumbled,
"I can still... participate, right?"
"Oh, well, that depends on the first exam. I'm sure you can, since the first part of the chuunin exam's are usually written tests, and they didn't get your right arm. You're right handed right? Well, I'm sure your arm will heal up well enough by tomorrow. A young girl stopped by earlier, she mended your arm in a heartbeat- Your body just needs to catch up with her healing." Hachino-sensei smiled and said, "She said her name was Hikaei."
I averted my gaze and stared at my arm. So. Was it worth letting her accursed chakra touch me after all? ...I decided that I would let it go this once. Because of the special circumstances.
"So. Technically, I can leave now right?"
"Nope. If you walk around with that bandage on your arm, it'll be all over- 'Sound Ninja Assaulted One Day Before Chuunin Exams!' and we don't want that. It already seems to have reached the other sensei's, so that's no good either. And that's why I'm here! So if anyone tries to rip your arm off this time, I can stop them!"
"Ah." I sweatdropped, "Er... thanks?"
"Welcome! You'd best get some sleep though- Chuunin Exam and all!" Hachino-sensei chirped. I sighed and reached out with a black line of ink to pull down the shades that was letting in the bright sunlight. What a pain. I shifted as much as I could without moving my dead arm, and tried to go to sleep again. Not that it worked all that great.
