In Generation IV, there was two exclusive HMs. One was Defog, which was only in the Sinnoh Games, and Rock Climb, which was in all of the main series generation IV games. These moves were only HMs in Generation IV, and have since been mostly forgotten since then.

Defog removes heavy fog in an area. It can be found in the Great Marsh. However, there aren't that many places where Defog can be used in the overworld, so at best, it's a very optional HM. In battle, Defog can decrease evasion, but it can also remove entry hazards & screens when used in battle. It an also remove Mist and Safeguard from battle.

As for Rock Climb, it can be found in the snow routes of Sinnoh, but I forget where you can get it in Kanto, as that HM is only unlockable in the post game. Obviously, as the name implies, Rock Climb can be used to scale rocky mountains. It's mostly in areas that are optional, but in the Platinum games, you need Rock Climb to continue on with a part in the story. As for the move itself, it has a chance to 20% to confuse the target.

What did you think of these HMs? I've always been puzzled by Defog was ever a thing. I never really cared to use it because it just felt really useless, and a waste of a move slot... but I really liked Rock Climb. Now that was a fun HM. I really wish they'd at least bring back being able to scale a mountain, even without Rock Climb.

I typically found them both to be subpar moves, so I didn't bother teaching them to any of my team members. Unfortunately, that meant that I had to sometimes withdraw an HM slave from my PC in order to use Defog and Rock Climb in certain areas.

I'm currently nuzlocking platinum and I forgot defog was an HM. The fact that fog lowered your pokemon's accuracy in battle was frustrating as well. It's like you had no choice but to have to use defog. However, I'm glad they turned into a useful move competitively. Rock Climb I thought was pretty cool and never minded to teach it to one of my pokemon. It does good damage and has a secondary effect.
