Destiny

Swear to god; the crucible is 75% bladedancer hunters lol

I'm no better since I'm also a hunter; but in my defense I at least use gunslinger instead of bladedancer. I think the mindset of a person that the hunter class appeals to is just more likely to be into PvP than a warlock or titan.

Hunter master race woopwoopwoopwoopwoop
ffs Hunters were the bane of my existence when I played Destiny. It doesn't help that my character is a Warlock, and they die when poked.

To me it just seems that when a Bladedancer gets an Arc Blade it's almost a guaranteed two or three kills. It's an overpowered super, especially when I could drop a Nova Bomb on a whole team and still have them survive to kill me. It makes me wish I started as a Hunter.

I've had the urge to play some Crucible again recently so I might fire it up. Not sure how much the game has changed since October when I last played it - I know the DLC got ripped apart and deemed mediocre by a lot of people, not that I intended to buy it anyway.

That's the main reason why Bladedancer is so popular (and why I use it.) A lot of the supers in the game have very minimal usage in Crucible, while Bladedancer can technically rack up multiple kills (unlike Golden Gun which caps at 3 kills for instance.)

Hunters are the bane of hunters even. Although the gametype really affects how viable bladedancer is... In control it's really obnoxious, because obviously you know there's gonna be 2 or 3 opponents around an enemy controlled objective, and the melee has way too much lunge and homing for bladedancer. Nova Bomb and Fist of Havoc kinda get the same deal in control though - and for what it's worth - bladedancer is next to useless in high level PvE. It seems like a purely PvP class, since any strike or raid leaves a bladedancer looking dumb trying to get close to enemies - AND they generate less orbs of light. What could really balance it for PvP though; is if they just took off the damn armor buff for Arc Blade :I Seriously what the hell, is with giving an armor increase to the super class that you need to stop before it gets close enough to kill you, but NOT the one that you just want to avoid line of sight to not get killed by? (I'm talking about how Bladedancer makes you resist damage, and golden gun gets absolutely none of that. Every other super, can give you a resistance to damage while using it, except golden gun. You can punch a Gunslinger twice mid super and he's dead.)

And the DLC is kinda mediocre, it's mostly just upsetting to players in the deep endgame though; since they give you options to upgrade *exotics* for the new max level of attack / defense on weapons / armor, but not legendary items. So if you have all Vault of Glass raid gear / weapons, they're going to be outclassed by the new legendary items. What system are you on by the way :0

Oh- well I blew my whole bladedancer rant load right above there heh buuuut, I'd argue that Golden Gun is just as much if not more viable as well as a number of other supers in the crucible. It can counter things like snipers or bladedancers even, and the most popular exotic helmet for non-bladedancer hunters is dat Aclyophage Symbiote - which gives Golden Gun 4 shots. Plus combustion can kill people if they're close together :v

.... I'm biased towards Gunslinger hahah.

No you're not biased, I'm not saying that the Golden Gun is bad, more just that it doesn't tailor to my style of play. Considering I like to get up in people's faces in the Crucible, I find that Bladedancer fits those scenarios better than the Golden Gun as I can move easily from person to person to get the kills. I can definitely recall many times though in which I've used Golden Gun in Crucible and killed snipers that were bugging me just like you stated, so again it just matters how you like to play the game.

That's a cool fact about the Exotic helmet. I have the Dirus Lupus Exotic chest armor so maybe I'll have to look into that whether or not I should changes Exotics.

Agreed, indeed. When I go bladedancer I prefer the more stealthy options, like shadowjack and vanish for Arc Blade. Blink Strike is a PvP godsend though, since teleporting to melee does, like you said - get RIGHT up in people's faces. If you're really a fan of bladedancer though; I'm surprised you're not rocking that mask of the third man. The unique upgrade is extending the duration of Arc Blade.

I should try PvP once, seems like a lot of fun, but I am mainly a PvE person :P

Also found blue engram, gets legendary helmet, turns out to be the wrong class... WHY RNG... WHYYYYY

I've been playing a lot of Destiny recently. I play Blade Dancer (Dear god Blade Dancer is strong), and my favorite weapon is the Gjallahorn (I think I spelled that right?). I mainly play PvE, but I'm doing an exotic bounty right now, so I actually have to play PvP (Kill me).

Bladedancers; Bladedancers everywhere :'D Gjallahorn is a powerful-ass exotic though; and it really helps with the end of the new raid. Personally I prefer Truth though. Probably because I don't own a Gjallahorn but heeyyyyyy - which exotic bounty are you doing? If you complete them now after the update, you get the new versions of the exotics with max 331 attack instead of 300.

When it comes to the different bounties in Destiny, there are certain ones I avoid doing. Mostly the ones that require without taking damage or without dying. Basically since those are some of the hardest to complete.

That one that has you kill 20 enemies without taking damage from them sounnnds really hard... but if you just go do a patrol, half the enemies you kill you don't actually get shot by :I Just use Scout or Sniper Rifles, and you can get that done in about 10 minutes or less. The 30 melee kills without dying and 9000 experience without dying are just a bit harder, but if you just don't die - they're really not bad either.

Anybody doing Iron Banner while it's around :v I've gotten pretty lucky in it so far, got a new tier Perun's Fire with 331 max attack, and a legendary ship called "Shark Whisperer" lol

AHAH! HAHA! AHAHAHAHAHAHA! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Oh god that was a good one. Destiny. Hahah.

I still haven't gotten to do the 'best part of the game' because I dont have 5 friends at the same level as me who can all drop what they're doing to play a raid im not too confident about because of how colossally screwed up their mission design (And story, and loot system, and leveling after 20, and variety of equipment, and weapon balancing, multiplayer design, enemy variety(It's like every enemy from every species is the same damn thing) do I need to go on?) is. Oh! Oh! Or how Activision most likely had them remove three quarters of the game to re-sell to us as DLC. And don't even get me started on the story... The only good part is the solid actual gameplay mechanics, which the rest of the game squanders.

I havent put the game in my PS4 since 2-3 weeks after it came out. And just so you know, this is coming from an extreme bungie fanboy. I grew up on their work (Played Halo CE when I was 4 or 5) so I'm not just jumping on the **** on Destiny wagon. I tried really hard to force myself to like it. REALLY hard. It's just so bad I couldn't. I really hope its Activision that destroyed this game and not that bungie lost it's skill (though they did fire/loose some of their best members, for a reason I guess)

That's my response to the opening post and to anyone reading this who wants an unbiased review of the game from a guy who was so obsessed with it before launch that he won 75% of the trivia at the midnight release.

OK, the story is rubbish, but the rest of this? :(

The loot system, whilst sometimes frustrating is also quite rewarding when you get lucky.

Leveling after lv 20 isn't too bad, with the new legendary items you rocket up quickly - pre-update I was stuck on 26 for ages, now I'm up to 29.

Variety of equipment isn't at all bad, there are a fair few faction armours to pick from, etc.

Weapons are fairly balanced in PvP - primaries need a bit of a boost / secondaries need more limited ammo, but other than that...

The enemies are actually quite varied?? I mean, each group has at least a few niches covered - general foot soldiers and heavy tanks are the only repeats. Thrall, Wizards, Servitors, Psions, Phalanx, Hydra, etc. all strike me as unique.

Well hey I disagree with most of that, but I can see where you're coming from. It is frustrating to not be able to do the raid since as you said - that's the oft referred to 'best part' of the game. But most of the other issues you claimed with Destiny seem to have been changed already, or never been quite to the extent of actually being real problems. To break it down;

"I still haven't gotten to do the 'best part of the game' because I dont have 5 friends at the same level as me who can all drop what they're doing to play" -

The raid is serious business mate - and a really satisfying challenge. Even with 6 veterans who are overlevelled, and know exactly what they're doing, you'll still need around an hour minimum. So it's not something anybody should really be expected to drop everything and do in one sitting, from what I've seen the best way to handle it is to plan in advance and set time aside, or do individual pieces of it checkpoint by checkpoint within the whole week-long timespan you have to complete a run.

"- a raid im not too confident about because of how colossally screwed up their mission design-"

I'm not sure what you mean about the mission design being screwed up, but there are some bugs still around I'd bet, Destiny is way not a perfect game still. Regardless though; the raid doesn't use typical mission setup by any means. There usually aren't objective markers, it's mostly linear besides the Gorgon's Labyrinth, and the entire raid area is exclusive to the raid - ie; no re-used locations from free roam or other missions. But if you could elaborate what you mean about screwed up mission design I'm kinda curious if there's a PS4 / Xbone difference there.

"- (And story, and loot system, and leveling after 20, and variety of equipment, and weapon balancing, multiplayer design,-"

The story is pretty bunk lol. I can't believe they thought it was a good idea to NOT include the grimoire in game. Like; the hell. That would've been a PERFECT addition to slap into your ghost for Nav mode; to engross people a lot more in the universe. But nooo. Companion app. -_-

As for the loot system though; I'm not sure if you've played any MMO's or FPS RPG style games, but Destiny's really not too bad about this, especially now after the patches. Purple engrams being blue items *used* to be a major issue, but if you'd have played more than 2-3 weeks, they patched that issue very quickly. Legendary engrams are rare, as they should be - but you can easily earn legendary gear with Vanguard or Crucible marks, get rewarded with legendary gear almost 100% of the time from doing Nightfall Strikes (Or even very commonly exotics) and every time you increase a faction's level, bam. More legends. Maybe at 27 you weren't terribly accustomed to the post-game, but there was definitely ample rewards for the right efforts.

"- enemy variety(It's like every enemy from every species is the same damn thing) do I need to go on?) is.-"

Whaaaa - there are parallels between factions, like dregs, goblins, legionnaires and acolytes, and Minotaurs, Fallen Captains, and Cabal Commanders, but even they have large differences in design, tactics, and purpose. Dregs and goblins behave WAY differently from one another, imo they did a great job with designing 'robot footsoldier' behavior for Goblins, having them stick in hordes slowly approaching you - firing rapidly shoulder to shoulder, while dregs circle you firing spastically jumping between cover and staying spread out from one another. And making Goblins charge you when you shoot their heads off was a really nice touch heh. But there's also HUUUGE differences in unique enemies between different factions. Like; what the hell is anything like a damn Vex Cyclops. xD Or cursed thrall; that's the only kamikaze in the game. Nothing also hangs around and bothers you even after it dies like a hive shrieker too.

" - Oh! Oh! Or how Activision most likely had them remove three quarters of the game to re-sell to us as DLC. And don't even get me started on the story... The only good part is the solid actual gameplay mechanics, which the rest of the game squanders."

Yeah this I agree with you on. I've seen the videos with cracked discs months ago that had the dark below and house of wolves story markers already in place on the maps. This is a sickeningly common practice in the gaming industry today. Shame on them.

The gameplay I also agree about though - I haven't enjoyed gunplay this tight in a LONG long time.

"I havent put the game in my PS4 since 2-3 weeks after it came out. And just so you know, this is coming from an extreme bungie fanboy. Well see - this might be the problem haha. All of this- the lifespan of MMO style games is far... FAR beyond 2-3 weeks. That's not even time for them to address some issues, which they did in the first 2-3 weeks as well as almost every week after that. And - annnd, buying into the hype factor seems to me like more of a reason to discredit someone's disappointment in the game, rather than coming in neutral and reviewing it. Destiny was waaay overhyped, and I think that really damaged it's reputation post release, because really. Can anybody think, of the last triple A release title that got prelaunch hype, that came out, and actually had positive media coverage? Cuz I sure can't. :I

I really like the enemy design, thrall seemed like a non-threat before Dark Below, but after doing the first part of the new raid and getting swarmed by 100 at once while running frantically, the damn things scare me now. Wizards are always annoying but equally cool enemies, Servitors are crazy unique with their behavior and ability to actually heal the Fallen around them (which no other faction gets) Psions have abilities that Warlocks and Hunters get which is flippin' awesome, Phalanxes and Hydras are the only enemies with completely bulletproof shields, and they both use them differently- so yeah. The enemies, really come off as well thought out to me.

Oh - and the teleporting captains are sweet. Can't wait for the Fallen raid to see how that's handled.

I don't know what this madness about enemies not being unique is. I mean, the Fallen like to spread out and circle around you, making it hard to hit them, while the Vex come in huge groups and blast your face off. The Hive like to come in medium sized groups, with a good mix of everything, mostly sending out explody things and melees first, and then blasting your face off with a bunch of heavy-damaging rockets, and a barrage of arc blasts from wizards, and they also like to assault you from the shadows and sneak up on you. The cabal act like a well coordinated army, and have units placed in strategic positions to catch you offguard and blast you down. There are parallels (Dregs/Acolytes/Legionaries/Goblins, Captains/Knights/Centurions/Minotaurs), but then there are the non-parallels in each faction (Vandals/Shanks/Wizards/Thralls/Cyclops/Cursed Thralls/Harpies/Walkers/Hobgoblins/Hydra/Phalanx/Psion/Colossus). I mean come on, what the **** else is close to a damn Psion (Annoying little pricks), or a Walker, or a Cyclops? I find the enemies to be extremely unique in this game.

The story is bland and worthless, I'll give you that, and the DLC missions aren't much better. The raids are well done, I think. They're a real challenge. You can't do them by yourself. It's not possible. It's a huge stretch for 2 people that are completely maxed out to do one. It's hard for even 3. 6 people don't really have trouble, it's just takes forever. Strikes are pretty much mini-raids in a sense, although they get extremely repetitive. The loot system is relatively easy to figure out, as it seems to run off a pretty complex, yet simple, algorithm that determines what item you get, what class it's for, and how often you find engrams. Exotics are decently hard to find, but well worth the work they take to find, let alone max out. Legendaries aren't even rare. Honestly, you just do your Vanguard bounties everyday, and level up your Vanguard rank and get legendaries for it.

All in all, this is one of my favorite games. Only games I've ever enjoyed more are League of Legends and all of the Borderlands games. Dead Space may be higher than this game too, but I haven't played all of them yet, so I can't make an educated decision on that. The game is quite new still, and a lot has changed since it first came out. A lot of the problems that have been mentioned thus far have been fixed. The only real issue I have at this point is the terrible servers, all though they have improved since release. Quite dramatically, actually. They went from nearly constant disconnects, to days where they just seem to have trouble. Still don't quite understand how they could code in these error code names, and not know what some of them mean (I'm looking at you Currant.) The Hare error code is quite annoying. I would think they would have private servers for testing things, so they don't crash the public servers, or that they would not mess up so bad in the private servers (If they even have any...), that it would mess with my gameplay on the public servers.

So I played some PvP games, got carried hard in the first two games as I had no idea what to do but we won them, third game was really close but SO MANY BLADEDANCERS JEZUS. Then I played a game today and I was just... I don't know what happened but it seemed like I wasn't able to die. I got no rewards though so don't think ill play PvP anytime soon :P

I have to play PvP for an exotic bounty. I'm going for the Invective, and the 25 K-A/D spread is hard. The rest of it isn't that bad, to be honest.

You could always boost in a Free For All game if you have the right amount of friends to play with. Although frowned upon, that's probably the easiest way to do it.

All hail Bladedancers, master race.

Bladedancers are everywhere now. I don't feel special anymore.

But you still get the pleasure of having people rage about you whenever you OP kill someone, so you have that going for you!

I don't feel blade runners are that overpowered... I mean, I get more deaths from Fist of Havoc than I have Arc Blade. And several times I've gone into Arc Blade and died as it activated, pre lunge, losing the super energy ;; .
