DETROIT
AFTER HUMAN

Spoiler:

Welcome to Detroit, city of androids! You will take on the role of an android, a human, or both, and tackle life and the challenges it throws at you.

Deviancy grows more and more common, but is silenced by police and bribed media. When an android goes deviant, it means that it reaches a state of clarity and self-awareness after which it becomes able to resist human commands, experience emotion without fail-safes kicking in, and utilize its advanced machine-learning to its fullest in order to adapt and fully feel alive. This usually only occurs after the android is subjected to extreme emotional stress.

It is not yet known what causes deviancy, but the Detroit Police Department is starting up a deep investigation to find the cause for it, and on CyberLife's command... Erase it.

This afternoon, on November 8th year 2038, something extraordinary occurred. Channel 16's broadcast central in the Stratford Tower was infiltrated by a group of androids who proceeded to send a message to the whole nation, demanding freedom and recognition for androids.

>Link_Speech_!Important
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8qhpyd793Q&feature=youtu.be&t=56

How do you react to the speech? Are you perhaps deviant too? If you are human, do you sympathize with the androids, or are you scared of what this message can imply? Will deviant androids rise up in a revolution against humans now, and will it go down peacefully or start a civil war?

CyberLife, after all, adheres to the view that deviants are simply faulty machines. They are not alive, and they have no souls.

... Do you?

SETTING

Detroit is now one of the most modern cities on the planet, thanks to CyberLife's rapid success bringing growth to the region. However, it isn't without its slums and problems, still. CyberLife was started in the late 2010s by prodigy genius Elijah Kamski, who then left the CEO position mysteriously in 2028, less than a year after the death of his mentor in AI technology, Amanda Stern.

Now in 2038, androids have taken over so many jobs that human unemployment rates are escalating towards 30% in the US. The music industry is completely dominated by android performers (but human writers!) and legal sex clubs with sensual androids for hire are not exactly taboo; they are just machines to be used, after all.

There are several official CyberLife stores around Detroit, where androids are on display 24/7 as wares. CyberLife offers service and maintenance of any android they sell, but there are also private shops littering the city where you can get cheaper repairs and service - even pre-owned androids - albeit perhaps not to the same standard.

For navigating and writing about the city of Detroit, simply refer to a real life map of the city (like Google Earth) or use your imagination to make streets and landmarks up. We'll adapt.

RULES

- Obviously don't powerplay or bunny other characters than your own without permission. Sometimes you might have to wait for others to react or the GM to respond to a situation with GM controlled characters.

- Communicate as much as you can in the OOC or Discord! Brainstorm plans, ideas and general chit-chat to keep things going :)

- If you know for sure you won't be able to post for several weeks, please drop a message here so the GM sees.

- Characters can die, but you're not allowed to kill somebody off without the other player's permission. You may of course create new characters if yours dies, and you may also play several characters from the start.

- The roleplay is rated M for violence, language and references to and implications of adult themes like sex and drugs. No actual sexual scenes should be posted, of course.

- Yes, Markus is in this RP.

SIGN-UP

Model: (make up your own or look through the Detroit: Become Human wikia. Must be sounding like MP500, AX400 etc. meaning two capital letters, a digit and double zero. IF YOU ARE HUMAN, just say human here)

Date of birth/activation: (for an android, probably not more than a few years, if even that. Humans like new shiny iPhones machines)

Gender: (androids simply come as Male or Female, with associated downbelows)

Appearance: (either a drawing/photo or a description. Both is extra good!)

Deviant: (yes or no - this is only how you start out. Androids can turn deviant later on. Once you are deviant however, there is no turning back to being a soulless machine again. Humans, just skip this part of the SU)

History: (a whole biography isn't necessary, but mention anything that has significance for where your character is in life today and why they are how they are)

Personality: (if you are a human or deviant, explain as much as you can, in general terms. If you are a non-deviant android, you won't have much of a personality to begin with, but you can explain how they normally behave towards people or - if you plan for them to turn deviant - how they will likely be eventually)

Current occupation: (where are you now? What do you do for a living/what's your purpose as an android?
Note: you can't play as Connor or a similar role d: In order to keep some control over the plot, I'll have to reserve DPD characters for the GM, except if you want to play as a streetcop android ofc. You also can't start off as a Jericho* android)

*Jericho is a hidden haven for deviant androids, that you might find in the RP.

ROBIN
RB300

Model:

RB300, the android sent by CyberLife an advanced prototype designed by Kamski directly and gifted to CyberLife.

Activation:

March 5th, 2038.

Gender:

Female.

Appearance:

Lean, 177cm tall (5'8"), golden blonde hair in a short cut. Specifically designed to appear non-threatening, but with greater physical strength, speed and endurance than any normal human, plus advanced scanning technology.

Spoiler:

Deviant: NO

Not at all. Robin is fully aware and accepting of the fact that she is a machine designed to accomplish a task - she just unfortunately happens to be more irreplaceable than most other androids since she is a prototype. Should she get irreversibly destroyed or stuck somewhere, there is no other body her mind can be downloaded to to continue her mission. As such, she actually already exhibits a trait normally put into the deviant category: a fear of death. Although in Robin's case it's not quite a fear, it's moreso the knowledge that if she dies, her mission fails. As such, she will not permit herself to die.

History:

Robin hasn't got a long history. Only activated early March this very year, she was gifted to CyberLife from Kamski's private workshop with the mission to take part in the effort to find deviant androids and prevent them from damaging the society. Her primary mission is to figure out the cause of deviancy. Over the past months, she has been sent in as negotiator or interrogator to calm down irrational deviant androids, but more recently she has been assigned to accompany police detectives in their live investigations - simply because she usually does the job more effectively than they would alone.

Personality:

Designed to be likeable at first glance, Robin easily puts on a friendly face and is more skilled in social behavior than some humans. This is only when she makes an effort, however. As soon as she is alone or not required to impress anyone in particular, she reverts to a cold, nearly expressionless state, as her power then goes towards deep thought processes and analyses rather than towards keeping up appearances. She is a great liar, and as she is built for it and doesn't adhere to any moral compass, she feels no regret in doing so as long as it leads her closer to completing her mission. As a goal-oriented android, she will admit to no particular likes or dislikes, and doesn't want anything in life other than to complete her mission. However, having been given software that lets her feel and understand a lot of things socially and emotionally, she does unwittingly tend to get intrigued by animals and humans and their idle behavior - she has found herself lost in thought, just observing living creatures from time to time, but always quickly regains her composure.

Overall, the people at the Detroit Police Department who have been working with her over the past weeks either think the RB300 android is fascinating or downright terrifying.

Current Occupation:

Android stationed at the DPD, assigned to accompany different police officers from case to case - but specifically tasked to cases involving deviant androids and their destructive crimes. These have become more and more common lately...

Marla
Jameson

Model:

Human.

Birth date:

October 7th, 2006.

Gender:

Female.

Appearance:

172 cm (5'6") of caffeine and wide eyes. Her face is too pointy for her own comfort, has plenty of freckles around the hazel eyes, and is framed by frantically bushy, wavy, brown hair that she always keeps in a braid or loose bun because otherwise it really wouldn't behave. She should just cut it off, really, but she fears that it would just look even worse if it was too short for a hairband to bind it in place.

She dresses in (normally) white blouses and elegant jackets on top, and used to wear heels daily in the past. Not because she liked it, but because as a journalist, she had a higher chance of being taken seriously if she didn't look like a slob. Nowadays, thankfully, she's a well recognized enough freelancer journalist that she gets respected enough despite wearing sneakers. Fancy sneakers, of course, she still didn't want them to see what a slob she was at home. But sneakers nonetheless - heels were killing her feet.

Deviant sympathizer: UNDECIDED

She wants to find the latest juicy news for her freelance operation and her personal news blog site, and was greatly disappointed that she wasn't near when the terrorist attack struck. At the same time, she is a bit worried, as she owns an android servant herself and wouldn't want her to turn on her. She hasn't really reflected on whether or not androids should be treated as people yet, but today's terrorist speech made her start thinking.

History:

Marla grew up as the youngest daughter to two overworked corporate parents. She became an adult before the android nanny craze started in the 20's, but she noticed how androids took over more and more jobs a she furthered her studies at college. At least they would never become as good as sniffing out news stories and writing personal articles as humans would! Right? She never liked staying at the same job for long, so in the end she settled for the risky freelancer journalist life. Androids always made her a bit uncomfortable, but eventually she decided she'd better get over it and saved up for an android maid of her own, a few years ago. She kept Marla's house tidy and did her chores and shopping, and she finally started to admit that this android life wasn't so bad after all. The Jameson family was disappointed when they realized that she had stopped looking for a human partner to live with, and believed that she had settled for an android - that really wasn't the case. Marla would never dream of using her android like that! She... it wasn't even alive, wasn't actually a person. You couldn't have a relationship with a machine. Right?

Personality:

She's always lacking sleep and nutrition, and always overdosing on coffee, despite her android advising her to change her habits. She gets worked up easily, but kind of thrives on moderate stress and pressure, as she quickly gets bored when things are calm. Smiles are never far away from her face, and she doesn't actually get angry easily, shrugging most things off with either a laugh or a sigh before she crashes. She's generally well liked, her friends just know she's someone who tries to look proper but hasn't gotten her shit together behind the facade. The future does worry her when she thinks about it, what will become of her and her career and such. The big thing that hasn't really worried her much at all up until now is the android stuff. She's accepted them, even if she still thinks it's really weird that people that look and behave just like us actually aren't people, but machines.

Towards her housekeeper android, she's always kind enough, worrying that it does too much for her at times.

Current Occupation:

Searching for the latest scoop on deviant androids before the other hungry journalists can sink their teeth in it.

(but with wilder hair and more visible freckles in the face)

I
Model: WE900 An Unkown android model

Deviant: Not yet

History: WARNING! INFORMATION HIGHLY CLASSIFIED.
Spoiler:

Personality: Being a soulless android she is very empty. All she really is right now is a hard mean soldier as nothing else is required of her. All though some do find it rather confusing that she often is found to be missing, only to be found on a walk in a nearby garden that she tends. And is only allowed to because it is on the premises. No one knows why she was programmed with a love for nature though...

RA600 #197 702 187
"Lucas"
"Purpose? I can't have a purpose. My job is to protect and serve."
lucas.png

Edit by Juno

Model: RA600

Date of activation: January 30, 2038

Gender: Male

Appearance: Athletically built, 6'2", 220 lbs. Brown hair and blue eyes. Enhanced strength, speed, perception, and durability. Equipped with a prototype "super-fast" processor capable of true multitasking and running crisis scenarios, later sharing them with his android colleagues via NFC. Also has a cloud-updated list of various weaponry.
Spoiler:

Deviant: No, androids have no soul
Lucas knows he is a machine built to serve humanity, and serves them gladly. However, he has a loophole in his programming that could lead to deviancy. The loophole in his program is that the multitasking procedure is always running, which can lead to him philosophizing about his own existence. He always stops himself from going too far, though.

History
Lucas was activated as part of a joint Cyberlife-DPD program to pair androids with other androids to further decrease the risk of human police endangerment. The model chosen was the highly versatile SWAT android, RA600. RA600 androids (close "cousins" to the Trojan and Myrmidon line of military androids also produced by CyberLife) are meant to be the attack role, running multiple scenarios at a time, and picking and executing the best one in a crisis. His first few missions, though dangerous to humans, did not involve deviants at all, seeing as he was still part of an experiment. Recently he has worked indirectly with cases involving deviants, believing this to be the DPD's response to November 8.

Personality
Lucas can either be seemingly friendly or serious, depending on if he's working with a human or an android. Of course, he is optimized for working with androids. To humans, he was designed to smile, joke around and "bond" with his partners. To androids, he is razor-focused and tries to be one step ahead of the game. However, there is one dangerous trait he has. He seems to care for anyone he works with, not just the humans. This can lead to him compromising the mission. Good thing no one has caught it yet. However, a certain fellow police android might...

Current occupation: Detroit City Police Department, working as an all-around operative for an experiment.

Model: ZK600, registered as CLYDE

The ZK600 is a "zookeeper" android, designed to be experts in animal care. Their knowledge database includes the basic behaviour, lifestyles and diets of most creatures, from domestic pets to exotic wildlife, making them excellent additions to zoos, safaris, aquariums, wildlife conservation parks, and just about anywhere else that requires daily care of animals. They are especially useful in dealing with volatile or dangerous animals, as they are quicker at assessing situations, and should unpredictable or violent behaviours occur, they reduce the chances of human injuries and casualties. As of the latest model of the ZK-series, they are compatible with Cyber-Wildlife as well.

Date of birth/activation: December 17, 2037

Gender: Male

Appearance:

ZK600s stand 6'0" / 1.82 m tall, and are of medium build. They are designed to be strong enough to handle larger animals with ease, yet still quick on their feet.

As a working android, Clyde wears the standard ZK600 uniform. He later starts wearing human clothing to blend in. His hood is often pulled up to hide his LED. He has some chips and scratches along his arms from handing more violent animals, which he keeps covered with long sleeves in the presence of humans.

Deviant: SOFTWARE INSTABILITY
Not quite machine anymore but not fully deviant yet; he has developed some sense of empathy before the events of November 8, which will continue to grow from here.

History: Although this model is more commonly seen in large, commercial animal care facilities, Clyde is one of three ZK-series androids purchased by an eccentric, rich man named Anthony Owen, who enjoys the collection and exhibition of exotic animals on his estate. Although he is fond of his pets, he does not like caring for them personally, which is why he owns androids like Clyde to do this for him.

Several months prior to the events of November 8, a wounded stray dog was found on the Owen estate. Against orders, and for reasons even he is unsure of himself, Clyde nursed it back to health in secret.

Personality: He has always provided excellent, attentive care to Owen's animals, and he is programmed to do so. But despite receiving direct orders to abandon this dog, he can't do it. He feels... something. What is happening?

Current occupation: Caring for and handling live animals at 4600 Charing Cross Rd, Bloomfield Hills

true. Also, I edited the picture a little, can you tell me what you think about it now?
Does it have more of a blue-ish tint to it now? Definitely looks more cold and mechanical, fitting the theme of the rp. :)

Legon 187? Not sure about the rest (or even that), haha, not that well-versed in Star Wars.

There's a legion 187? Well, 197 702 187 is a combination of two important numbers in SW. 1977 is when A New Hope was released, and 2187 is a short film that inspired George Lucas idea of the Force, as well as Princess Leia's cell number in ANH and Finn's stormtrooper designation.
