Gameplay Trailer:

Credits:
Made by me! Using PokeCrystal Disassembly, of course.

Sprites:
Glitch/Feature:
-When catching a new Digimon, the Dex page that pops up will display the Shiny version of the sprite. Kind of cool though unintentional. I'm legitimately not sure if I should bother trying to fix it so... bonus feature?
-Exiting out of the map screen when using the Whistle will glitch the screen up a bit. It clears up as soon as you exit out of the menu though.
View attachment 159968
-Some Digimon evolve via evolutionary stones. However, sometimes the menu will read "NOT ABLE" when you get ready to use a stone on them. Ignore it and hit the A button anyway. The Digimon will evolve as intended.
-For some crazy reason, catching an Arukenimon on Mt Silver will transform it into a Lalamon instead. I have no idea what causes this soooooo yeah.

Hey! I've loved this so far. The only thing that has not been fun is the fact that wolf digimon know thief and can steal my held items, like my eco share

hey! Have loved crystal version! The only thing that I've not enjoyed is the wolf Pokémon able to use thief and steal my held items (I.e. my exp share). Is there a way to get that back?

Ooof, that does sound rough. Tell you what, I'll edit every mon's movepool so that it learns Bite/Feint Attack instead of Thief.

That's awesome man! But I dont mean to impose! I was more just hoping there was a way to get it back, but I do appreciate the dedication!

Nah, it was a good wakeup call. If it happened to you then it probably happened to many others out there. Better to nip it in the bud.

I just started playing and I was wondering what the shiny odds were for the Digimon?

Might be nitpicky, but is there a reason why Magnadramon is only 580 bst when the rest of the adventure megas are 630? Gatomon is my fav and I feel bad for her lol.
I'd also suggest maybe making her fairy/dragon, 1 for her name and 2 to differenciate her a bit more from Seraphimon. Totally cool if you wanna keep her like this for some reason, just curious and a little bit of an agenda to make my girl more powerful!

Same as original Crystal. If you got a shiny then that's some crazy luck!

Good question! Because the Gatomon line has no baby. Since it only has 5 forms instead of six, it will level up to its final form faster than the rest of the Adventure Megas-- at the price of having lower BST. So it's an investment-payoff sort of thing. I also would really like to make Magnadramon Fairy-Dragon, but I have this rule where I (almost) never have a Digimon drop its Typing after evolution. Since Angewomon is Fairy-Flying, so must be Magnadramon (offhand, this is also why I don't make WereGarurumon Ice-Fighting, because he would have to lose it in favour of Steel after evolving). The only exception to this rule is Normal type, which is occasionally swapped out after evolving.

I'm waiting for you to make a hack of Heartgold and that is based on the HG-Engine.
Actually I have all the sprites locked and loaded for a Gen VI hack. But for my vision of evolution, I want it possible to that a Digimon evolves at a certain level and what item its holding will influence its evolutionary path. So far I haven't found anyone who knows how to do that. If you know anyone willing to collab, throw them my way lol

But it does reach Magnadramon at the same level as the rest, level 60, according to the spreadsheet. So she reaches ultimate and mega at the same time than the rest?

Balance considers BST, evolution, and movepools. For reference, please compare the Gatomon line with the Greymon line below:

NyaromonFairy310Route 31
SalamonFairy380Nyaromon + lv.15
GatomonFairy450Salamon + lv.30
AngewomonFairy-Flying510Gatomon + lv.45
HolydramonFairy-Flying580Angewomon + lv.60

vs

BotamonFire230Zudomon + lv.60
KoromonFire310Botamon + lv.10
AgumonFire390Koromon + lv.20
GreymonFire470Agumon + lv.30
MetalGreymonFire-Steel550Greymon + lv.45
WargreymonFire-Steel630MetalGreymon + lv.60

As you can see, the Gatomon line is superior to the Agumon line for the first 20 levels, and even after that she's more or less comparable. It's not until late game (level 45) where her line finally starts to fall off. Until then you get the benefit of a line that not only evolves into Rookie five levels earlier, but also has superior Base Stats and moves until Champion-level. In other words she's an early to mid-game powerhouse.

The Base Stats, evolution levels, and movepools for all Digimon in the game were balanced according to this principle. The less forms they have, the less investment you need to put in. Ergo, the more powerful they are in the beginning but the more they start to fall off around the end game.

The Andromon line also demonstrates this principle fairly well:

MetalKoromonSteel-Electric360Route 29
KokuwamonSteel-Electric480MetalKoromon + Lv.15
AndromonSteel-Electric540Kokuwamon + Lv.30

Wow, a Digimon with 480 BST by level 15?? Seems too good to be true, right? Well he peaks at level 30, with "only" a BST of 540. Yadda yadda yadda you get the idea.

I have to admit seeing this Digimon hacks not the best hacks there is if you compered to others but to me it was the most fun i had i grew up watching Digimon so seeing a hack or fan game with a certain charm of Pokemon does feel real familiar i just kinda hope for the future some of the hacks gets updated just a little more polished but it's always fun.

Hey first of all thank you for all the Pokemon content you made, they're amazing!

I found a bug in Cherrytown Digimart, it sells Potion twice replacing the normal Digiball.

Thank you

Hey bleedpark how did u get agunimon?

Hey, wanted to pop in here with a huge congratulation to the Dev of the game. It's really nice to see Digimon being implemented into Pokémon fan games, like Rom Hacks and, hopefully in the future, RPGXP games. Doing the Lord's work here! Digimon Crystal is definitely my favorite of the trifecta because you can actually see how you have improved ever since Nova Red dropped. Not that Nova Red was bad, but it's clear you eased yourself with the passing of time into developing these games. Your sprite work, adapting to the art style of the specific generations, is a huge bonus to the game. Really shows how dedicated you are to your craft.

I did the whole Johto region, save from finding the roaming legendaries, since I, at least, managed to get the A.Sphinxmon. Had a lot of fun with my run, and while I felt at certain points the experience curve was a bit wonky due to, well, being Johto, I can still say with certainty that I enjoyed my time with it. Got to the end of Kanto's gyms, defeating Blue, and stopped there because I felt like I had done enough.

Had a few gripes, what with the aforementioned leveling curve being especially more noticeable during PG (for example, trainers had, oft, under-leveled Digimon in their parties and 2~4 at most party members, meaning there wasn't a whole lot of trainer exp to receive), so I had to catch up by either grinding in the wild, or run into gyms with lower-leveled Digimon. While this wasn't a huge issue or anything, it did feel like a few fights were a bit... out there? For example, while Blaine only had 3 Digimon and was, necessarily, the 7th Gym, his team was Susanomon (Lv. 66), Apollomon (Lv. 66), and his Ace (Lv. 73) . While I had level 59~60. And yes, I know you can buy Rare Candies, but I wanted a more organic feeling while playing. Oh, and something I noticed recently, I believe some tutors have inconsistencies (for example, Susanomon not being able to learn Flamethrower from the Goldenrod Tutor, despite learning it via level up. Or Magna Angemon not learning Thunderbolt but learning Thunder. Just a few nitpicks.

I also noted a few mismatches with the documentation, but I attributed those to just oversights, so I don't count those as "negative" points. For example, I believe Agunimon/Susanomon was supposed to learn Dazzle Gleam at 35, and Morning Sun at 50, it seemed they swapped places? I may not be 100%, but I know for a fact I had to run Fairy Wind for a good while, haha.

But this is probably about it when it came to complaints with the game. Nothing that I wouldn't attribute to it simply being Johto, to be fair.

Here's my final team, with a little bit of boosts after defeating Blue, since I wanted to register it here.

Your first post in 4 years is insane 💀 Thank you for the glowing review and feedback! I had a lot of fun making the game and it brings me so much joy to know that other people out there are enjoying it.

You're not alone in noticing how your mons always feel "underleveled." In my opinion, that's always been the point. Pokemon is supposed to be an underdog story, where the main character overcomes impossible odds with the love and trust of his teammates. It always made a more engaging experience to me to take down gym leaders with way higher levels than I have through clever technique. Yes, they have superior stats and moves. But you have superior strategy. A human can always outsmart, predict, or bait an AI. It's pretty much like that with all my games, with perhaps Crystal being the most noticeable (although I always include Rare Candies for sale at the E4 for an exorbitant price and they are intended to be used-- forgoing them will definitely make your life tougher).

Oh, also I'm sorry you had to endure that freaking ugly Susanoomon for your playthrough. I see you're playing a slightly outdated version; the current Susanoomon looks like this:

Wonder if you can have something like, usual stone evolutions BUT only have it work after a certain level? Seems easier and wouldn't take the held item slot unless said evo items have bonuses so they aren't dead weight.

If you have access to the games scripts maybe you can just add a level check ontop, but im unsure?? But also the idea should get you everstones early if you want higher then natural evo levels there, unless theres no more natural evo levels so it's ALL branches which is interesting because i kinda always felt like branching was the more interesting option then waiting most the time. Getting moves on mons that dont usually get it was fun in Crystal and i wonder if the bigger dex space can be used for hints or some vague % of how normal it is for the mon so you can get an idea on how close it is to the natural line.
