This problem never existed though until after the server move.. so I wonder if the database on the new server is just handling things differently than the one on the old server? I'm not too sure, but it's just a guess.

Hardware change != Software change, Zach – if Steve knows what he's talking about, which he does of course. :)

Personally don't use this feature at all, but others definitely do. If it were removed, it'd be pretty upsetting for them. We'd all get used to it eventually, though, so as long as it prevents double-posting (which, imo, is not that much of a huge deal), I probably wouldn't have any issues with seeing it gone. ^^"

I know that, Alex. But things can change between servers such as using a different version/build of either PHP or MySQL. But in this case, it would be something with the SQL database and not PHP.

And what exactly would that be? I don't see how something like this could change from a version update; I do however see it as plausible if tPC switched SQL engines or something like that.

Also, MySQL 5.6 was first released in April of 2011, and reached general availability in February of 2013 – Source; PC's server upgrade was after that. I also don't think enough would've had to change for the engine to ever so precariously cause the glitch and not break down at all. Hmm…

most of the DB calls are the same as for normal reply, its just using ajax to process the QR.

There can be a chance that some bigger threads can not or don't post up fast enough and php or your Apache (webserver) process times out and the ajax call tries again creating the double entry in the DB.

Not exactly sure on the exact processes involved but that's my thoughts. (I'm not a programmer.. lol)

I can take a look at the db itself and optimize as need to help a tiny bit..

It's a known issue with PHP 5.4 and any version of vBulletin below 5. Their helpful suggestion is "well you should use 5.3 instead."

Not entirely unfair considering our software, while pretty heavily modified in some areas, is still running pretty old code.

I'll look into a fix for this and see if I can whip something up.

Thank you, Audy.

@Steve -- my laptop has 8gb of RAM and I double post all the time ;;

I just got a really great 16 gb RAM chip... Still have double posts. Every time in DCC Chit Chat Cafe, I see quite a few double posts... Prehaps it depends on the traffic of the thread? Im not a vBulletin expert (If this is a vBulletin problem)

its not just RAM, cpu speed and power counts too...

Audy, thanks for looking into it.

I think the solution should be that once a thread has over 5,000 posts, we make a new one. I really only lag in DCCs. I think it's weird that sometimes I double post, and other times it merges.

Core i7 2.2ghz as well. Quad Core... pretty good cpu lmao

Usually it happens when something nears 100 pages, actually.

I noticed this too, seems quite inconsistent.

Anyway I'm assuming you mean my octuple posting that happened in clubs haha, which was very strange. If it's any help, this is what happened: at first the page was going very very slow (though I did not click "submit reply" or "post quick reply" more than once, I know better than that lol) I left the page and came back to see if it posted; it didn't, so I tried making it again a few times. And then suddenly I had posted 8 times in a row. After thinking about it, I guess when I left the page and came back to see if the post had posted, it really did even though it wasn't showing up? I have no clue.

Could have been my internet, though no other website was going slow at that time. Today, I couldn't get on Pokecommunity at all until now, it simply wouldn't load. ;___; (working fine now though)

My computer isn't the most powerful so I guess that contributes ;.;

That was a very odd occurrence but other than that it seems most common to just click "post quick reply" and two posts appear instead of one for whatever reason. Sometimes the spam filter thingy picks it up and tells me to wait because I just made a post less than 10 seconds ago haha, other times it posts twice in a row, other times it merges.

If I can throw in my two cents... It is a little inconvenient for sure, but I don't think it's worth completely getting rid of Quick Reply, seeing as soooo many people use it and love it. The convenience of Quick Reply seems to heavily outweigh the inconvenience of deleting a second post occasionally.

of course I still hope it gets fixed.
