Brave, previously titled The Bear and the Bow, is an upcoming film that will be Pixar Animation Studios' thirteenth animated feature film. The film will be written by Brenda Chapman and directed by both Chapman and Mark Andrews. It will be produced by Katherine Sarafian. The score will be composed by Patrick Doyle. The film was originally scheduled to be released on June 15, 2012, but Pixar moved it back one week to June 22, 2012. The movie is currently in production.

Plot
Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In Brave, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), surly Lord MacIntosh (Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane). Merida's actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it's too late.

Cast
Kelly Macdonald as Princess Merida, a headstrong teenager of royal upbringing who is struggling to take control of her own destiny.
Billy Connolly as King Fergus, a heroic warrior with a majestic bear cape, broad sword and a knobby peg leg.
Emma Thompson as Queen Elinor, a vision of grace, wisdom and strength of character, Queen Elinor is fiercely dedicated to the well being of her family and kingdom.
Julie Walters as the Witch.
Kevin McKidd as Lord MacGuffin, a man of few words, though his deep voice resounds across the land demanding respect.
Craig Ferguson as Lord Macintosh, the wiry, indignant and off-kilter leader of his clan who's a heartbeat away from hysterics.
Robbie Coltrane as Lord Dingwall, the rumpy and quick-tempered lord, who doesn't let being height-challenged get in the way of solving his problems with fisticuffs.

I love fairy tales. I love Pixar. I know I'm going to love this movie.

The people at Pixar are really great about creating interesting stories. I'm expecting to see something that looks familiar, like it's just another story you heard as a kid, but with something special to it that makes your eyes glow and your mouth grow wide in a big, dumb smile. I have very high hopes for this movie.

I'm certainly interested in how Pixar will deal with a female protagonist. Although I'm a massive devotee of the studio, it has a not-entirely-undeserved reputation as a 'boy's club', given that most of the key creative personnel are men and the protagonists of all 11 features made so far have been male. Letting go of director Brenda Chapman half-way through production wasn't a good omen, but I still have high hopes for this. Especially with that voice cast. Love me some Emma Thompson.

I'm not a HUGE fan of Disney and their movies, though I have seen all of them at least twice. Even watched some in other languages, lol. The main thing I like about Brave is where it is set and the kind of myth that is happening in the story.

Well it's a Disney film so I have high expectations, after seeing the trailer it looks like something I'd enjoy watching!

I hope it does well. I'm a little disillusioned with Pixar at the moment because of Cars 2. Two misses in a row would not be good.

But, I'm also not really looking forward to the movie anyway. It's not the usual Pixar brass working on this film and there was behind-the-scenes strife that led to a swap in directors, so I'm hoping the quality holds up. The story and concept isn't really calling out to me though

Pixar are really taking a big shake-up this time around, every Pixar movie before this had a male protagonist.

I wonder how they'll go with a female lead.

As TriForce said, Cars 2 was probably Pixar's worst film to date, if this ends up like Cars 2 it will be disappointing.

I have yet to see Cars 2, actually. I'm going to watch it just . . . just to see, lol.

But Brave looks pretty good, and Pixar movies are pretty much always great, excluding the aforementioned Cars 2 I've yet to see. Can't wait to see it when it comes out, and just over two weeks after my birthday, no less.

I also didn't even realize this was their first female [main] protagonist so far, until I came to this thread, lol. Although, it's not like they haven't had important female characters. I don't see this being a problem, though.

But yeah... idk. I hope Pixar hasn't lost their touch. But the concept of the movie, what little I know about the plot, the look, the voices, the trailer... nothing is wow-ing me so far for Brave

You know it's a British film because it stars at least two cast members of the Harry Potter franchise :P

I do like Julie Walters and Robbie Coltrane, and Kevin McKidd is tolerable (he has become less annoying recently on Grey's Anatomy ever since he got over the whole "traumatised Iraq veteran" thing). I saw the trailer for this movie and it looks actually really good, which is surprising for me given Pixar's more recent work. So I'm gonna go see it!

I found Toy Story 3 and Up to be fantastic... even if Toy Story 3 was basically The Brave Little Toaster

Cars 2 was tons of fun. Why can't you all see that? :(

In my view it (Cars 2) showed that Pixar was continuing on an upswing with Wall-E, Up, Toy Story 3, Cars 2, and so Brave should be fantastic. That isn't to say that pre- Wall-E movies are bad, but that (Wall-E) was a stand-out among stand-outs and everything since has been wow-amazing-good.

Wall-E was great. I didn't care for Cars 2 and I didn't bother seeing Toy Story 3 since I haven't seen the first two lol.

When I wrote that post though, I was mainly referring to Puss in Boots which was a genuinely terrible and unfunny movie, but which I only now upon doing research realise was not even a Pixar movie. So don't mind me :P

I'm a bit of a Disney/Pixar nut, so this is definitely exciting. Although this is the first I've seen or heard about this film, it definitely seems to have potential, and watching the trailer, it looks pretty good!

Will be seeing this!
