In my opinion most things have been pretty acceptable or even foreshadowed.

I also think that current events can and will end up being ok. Naruto has a lot of symbolism (well, sort of), just have to hope the snake eats the rabbit.

Though, I don't know how much progress is made between episodes. I stopped reading after the end of the Pein arc...but I haven't watched since Post-Gaara Kidnapping. It's been a good number of years.
